A LETTER FROM ZIONNA

Each year I grow more excited about the work and accomplish-ments of Barbells for Boobs. When I started this organization, it was simply in support of my dear friend, Cecy. A friendship that rallied me into action to get answers has now evolved into a community of supporters who inspire our team day in and day out. The personal stories our supporters share with us reaffirm our existence and the incredible support we get across the world shows us that we are not alone in our fight. This organization was built on the foundation of friendship and has grown into a support arm for so many men and women around the world.

The success of our organization has gone hand in hand with the fantastic partnerships with one-of-a-kind companies. Our movement has been trusted by great athletes, partners, grantees, and supporters who have collaborated with us to ensure that everyone has a RIGHT to know if they are living with breast cancer.

As we move forward, we know that we are stronger as a team. The impact of your help cannot be underestimated. Your commitment and partnership allows you the exciting opportunity to be on the front lines of our fight against breast cancer. The ultimate reward is making a difference in the lives of those who inspire us to carry out our mis-sion together as one team.

OUR MISSION

BARBELLS FOR BOOBS

IS A 501(c)3 NON-

PROFIT ORGANIZATION

DEDICATED TO THE

EARLY DETECTION OF

BREAST CANCER, WITH

AN EMPHASIS ON WOMEN

UNDER THE AGE OF 40, AS

WELL AS MEN.

Barbells for Boobs owes its origins to the friendship

between founder Zionna Hanson and Cecy

Morales. At 26 years old, Cecy found irregularities

in her breast and was denied screening services

and advised by medical professionals to simply

come back upon turning 40. Not satisfied with

this answer, Cecy was persistent and insisted on

being screened only to finally discover that she

was in the midst of stage 0 (DCIS) breast cancer.

Zionna knew that the answers Cecy were given

were nowhere near satisfactory. She decided then

and there to make it her life’s mission to ensure

that everyone has a right to know if they are living

with breast cancer and Barbells for Boobs was born.

Today, Cecy is a survivor! A thriving, vibrant and

dynamic woman, whose very life continues to be

our inspiration every day. As a result, Barbells for

Boobs strives to fight and find ways to help and

provide resources to those who need them. Every

day, one less woman, one less man, and one less

athlete is amongst us. Our goal is to ensure that

everyone has access to potentially life-saving

detection services.

The “barbell” is truly the metaphorical and literal root of our organiza-tion. It started in 2009 with Z picking it up, and lifting it above her head 30 times alongside 60 of her friends to start this amazing movement, the organization of today. We also know that sometimes one must lift something pretty heavy in order to achieve results! This defines our mis-sion as a fearless organization synonymous with “forward-thinkers” and “life-savers.

WHY BARBELLS?

Page 7: Barbells Brand Book 2015

7

From our humble beginnings in 2009 when this organization was just an opportunity to shine a light on a growing problem, to the dynamic team that is consumed by its mission, we witness the impact we have created around us every day. As we all know, breast cancer organizations are numerous and all very worthy, but our method is slightly different. We aim to provide a way for the disease to be detected in its earliest stage in order to prevent a growing

and infinitely more serious problem.

WHY GETINVOLVED?

FUNDRAISE

9

Barbells for Boobs continues to be inspired by great people, athletes, and companies who choose to lead with passion and compassion.

Men and women of all ages, race, or affiliation have embarked in our common

journey. It requires commitment, perseverance, and an unshakable belief in what we can do together.

STEP 1It only takes a minute to set up your page. Decide what to do.

Pick a name. Pick a photo. Click, click, done! Just like that, you’ll be ready to start raising money and

give people the right to know.

STEP 2Once your campaign is set up,

tell everyone about it. The more people you tell, the quicker you’ll

reach your goal. Then sit back and watch the donations to give people the right to know roll in.

STEP 3Build a fundraising super team!

Doing things with friends is always better then doing stuff alone. Fundraising with your

friends yeilds better results than you could ever imagine, try it out.

Thanks to our amazing and generous partners, we are able to offer some additional incentives for your hard work as you climb the fundraising ladder and help one more person know if they are living with breast cancer. This multi-tiered fundraising in-centive program is designed to build momentum by offering reward levels. The great thing about the reward levels is that the prizes are cumulative; so feel free to go completely nuts with your fundraising!

Communities raise money that goes into a “pot”, and those funds are then dispersed back out via grants that we award to local grantee partners to make a difference in the community.

SHORT VERSION

Peer 2 Peer Fundraising: Individuals and Teams work to spread the word about our mission and gather donations. Rewards and some

friendly competition drive them to raise as many funds as possible. These funds go into a collective “pot” called The Barbells For Boobs Grant

LONG VERSION

The Barbells For Boobs Grant Program: All of the funds in the program are dispersed to breast centers and breast health care facilities to pay for direct services, including both screening and diagnostic procedures. Interested organizations apply for funding, are thoroughly screened and

evaluated, and then strategically selected to work with BFB as a true grantee partner, driving our mission with critical funding on a local level.

Impact and Results: We make it our goal to put grant funds back into the communities that raise them. And we care about results, so we require detailed reporting on the impact from the use of BFB funds from all of

our grantee partners. Anyone can see the results of the funds they raised being used to fill the gaps in breast healthcare in their community. This brings

people back year after year, knowing they’re making a difference so close to home.

Together, with one unified voice, we can make a difference.

FACE THE FACTS

1/8 ONE IN EIGHT WOMEN IN THE US WILLDEVELOP INVASIVE BREAST CANCER OVER THE COURSE OF HER LIFETIME.

In 2014, an estimated 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed among US women.

7% of women diagnosed are under the age of 40.

In 2014, about 1 in 1,000 (1%) of men were diagnosed with breast cancer.

That year, approximately 39,620 US women were expected to die from breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among US women (excluding cancers of the skin)

Page 24: Barbells Brand Book 2015

24

The Barbells For Boobs Grant Program was established in 2010 and provides critical funding to breast centers, healthcare facilities and other breast cancer organizations as a resource for thousands of men and women who do not qualify for assistance elsewhere. The program currently supports 35 grantee partners with funding in 23 states plus Washington DC and will be expanding into Australia in 2015. To date, we’ve provided over 16,848 procedures to 9,031 individuals and have helped detect 94 cases of breast cancer.

Breast cancer doesn’t just happen in October. It’s a constant ongoing battle, which is why we won’t stop.

Everyone Has The RIGHT To Know.

25

We have a few methods to determine how our grant money is allocated. Our intent is to give funds back into the communities that raised them. If a certain community is a

rockstar fundraiser, we want to make sure to give back to them as much as possible. We also look at statistics and impact numbers. Florida, for example, only supports women

ages 50-64. They have a larger gap to fill than most states. We look at where the money is coming from and where the gaps are. From there, we find a balance of how to best

allocate grant funds.

HOW DO WE DETERMINEWHERE OUR FUNDS GO?

Barbells for Boobs is proud to collaborate with other breast cancer organizations because we are not alone in this cause. We have had a continued collaboration with both of these organizations since 2012 and we are excited to extend collaborative

relationships with new organizations.

“Barbells for Boobs saved my life.” - Nicole Kepler, Stage 2 (Survivor)

Barbells for Boobs has been able to successfully provide detection services in many states across the U.S. Our impact has not only raised awareness of the incidence of breast cancer under the age of 40, it has also provided resources to those that typically would not have access to the necessary screening and diagnostic procedures to detect breast cancer.

Together, with one unified voice, we can make a difference.

Back in 2009, a few friends came together in a parking lot to raise some money. Picking up some worn barbells with cartoon sized bumper plates 30 times with those friends is a great story. Who knew something so simple to support a close friend battling breast cancer would start a global movement.

The first gathering was simple... super simple. Grab some barbells... grab some bumper plates and do “Grace”. By CrossFit® definition, “Grace” is 30 Clean & Jerks for time. Simple.

This small gathering grabbed the attention of the entire CrossFit® community and hasn’t slowed down since. Raising funds with t-shirt sales to a powerful Peer 2 Peer fundraising portal. Allowing ANYONE with an interested in supporting Barbells to Boobs to create a fundraising page and let the sky be their limit.
