Impact Test ing of Concrete Using a
Drop weight Impact Machine

ABSTR ACT - -A deta i l ed desc r i p t i on o f the i ns t rumen ted drop-
weight impac t mach ine i s presented. The i ns t rumenta t i on , the
ca l i b ra t i on , the i ner t i a l l oad ing cor rec t i on , and the dynamic
ana l ys i s o f a conc re te beam spec imen undergo ing three-po in t
impac t f l exura l l oad ing are desc r i bed. Some resu l ts , us ing
such an impac t tes t i ng mach ine, obta ined f rom tes ts done on
p la in conc re te , f i ber - re i n forced conc re te , and convent i ona l l y
re i n forced conc re te are presented. I t is conc lude d that the use
of such a tes t i ng mach ine may be success fu l l y made i n order
to tes t c e m e n t i t i o u s mate r i a l s under mpac t .
