This y~ar we pt rformed r easonably well at all levels from U/S 1 s to 1st Grndc .

Und er 15 ' s and Und er 17 's both con tested grand finals, but lost. During th E, sea son ea ch of these sides 1~as good enough to b eat E V ( ry oth0r t eam .

First grade finished in fourth place , aft er having bBaten ev~ry tenm except St . Iv~s .

But t eam performanc e is only part of our sc€ne as a football club.

1980 will be r 2memb 0r ed as the y~ar we sttirted our club ho use; thE ye er we incorporated a·s a limited company, thE y ear it was proposed that we mny be promoted to the Sydney Football League, the ye a r we startc.: d primary school football in Bankstown nnd the year Bankstown Council upgrad <:: d our ground to a 1st class oval .

You will find detailed submissions on our financial position <::lsewherE in tllis report, but briefly we have to r aise $267 p Er WE-E:k to p ay - for our club ho use, plus r tltes and taxes-.~

Cigarette machines are covering the major part of that figur·e (about $200) and the rE.st wt have to raise with social gdtherings and functions.

Wa ure co nfident that we can easily cover that amount and have done so comfortably t h us f ar, even tho ugh it is the off season .

We ar e v ery fortunate to be u member club of the Banl:Lstown District -Spo:r·ts Club Ltd . us they provide us with a huge amount of ;.issistance . 'l'bey:

Our policy of promoting junior footballers i s only now bcginring to produc~ r Gsults.

Against CampbPlltown last scAson we fie ld ed a 1st Grad0 t t::arl) with 14 ex- Bctnkstown junior playc-rs and we won.

S£NIOR VI CE PHESIDENT ' S REPORT

1980 has been a difficult yeer - a year of disappointment and yet a successful one . Difficult, b t causG we have not yet seen the eTher gtnce of s nough capable club people o ff er ing their efforts to a llow all the operations from com~1tte e to match dGy needs to effici e ntly and smoothly co-ordina te . ~·oo much is aone by to o few .

Difficult because our home gr ound was not availabl€ to us for match play or tra ining. .Ba.rly season always presents some probl ems becaus€ of unavnilability of grounds t ill Apri l 1st . So we trai ncd whtsre vcr we could . 'I'hE vari t:ty of match venues we played a t must constitute some sort of a record . Rosedale Oval, Beaman P&rk, Lehman Ovol and Even one homE ruatch at Sutherland . Sad part of all t hat is wi t.IJ a little; co- operation from ~outhcrn Districts WE could have had them all at .&osedale .. Certainly this unsettled players to some degree and hurt our club pocket in lost rev~nue from canteen salE s .

We a re none thr l ess gr ate f ul a nd offer thanks to: John Swan, President of the Gre en Valley Club and the Liverpool Councilmen who agreed to a llow us to share Lehman Oval, Green Valley. Sure got us out of a hole .

Successful because a ftEr losing several players from l e.s t years Grand Finalist t eam we did stay with the top half of the competition and rea ch€d Semi Finals . Successful because of individual efforts like those on the playing field of Stephen Podbury who was clubs BE-:s t and Fairest and also S. D. F . A. :Best and Fairtst , e:.nd Greg Knight who for the s econd year was top goal 1dcker of the Association . Successful because of men lik6 John 1rveathers . ·Ni thout hia, we may not have that Club Hou.se or cigare t t e vending machines . His work about the Club .affairs is tremendous , and ha s been since 1969. Gordon and J enny Hancock a r e huge wo rkers in club activity, particularly junior things and a r e directly behind another successful operation in ths establishmen t of a Primary Schools Competition 1980. First ·timt ever .

The club is a cont~nder f or admittance to 1st Division in 1982 . Tha t wi l l only be Qble to happen if W6 can get our match committee and a dministrs t i on into proper operation .

On bE' hrt.lf of the F'Ootba ll Commi tt ce I express app r eci a tion to th6 Bankstown District Sports Club Board of Direcrtors and staff for the a i d giv8n to this club and in particula r to Sports Director Cnarlie Roberts and SecrEtary Emile McDonald .

DOYL:C: TRADI.NG CU!v.:PANY

As you will knew from last year ' s report, this "Registered Tr ade Name " is the one used exclusively to operate our cigarette machines . Befor€ our club becdme incorpor a t ed as a company , i t could net own Q registe1ed trade name, so G. Hancock, D. Tarbert and J . 111eathers held the namE 4e trustees for the olub . Following the club being incorporated on the thirtieth of July, 1980, the registered ownership of Doyle Tra ding Cop.pauy (and all its assets and liabilities) have been fully transferred to the Club ' s name .

The enclosed bal~ncf. sheet will show that it has been (and ~till is) a very profitabl€ undertaking - indeed without it behind us we could n l: ve:r have hoped to buy "The Hangar".

BoweveT, therF is a nib ! Too few people are helping with its operation and $Ome more volunteers are called for, especially f T01n the seniors . It i s EASY as long a s we have a f ew more helpers .

vVe need (from the: SEI.-.:IOtil:>) :-

(a) One person to spe:~d from 8a . m. to 10 . am . every SBCOND ~·hursday morning at the Sports Club;

(b) &everal people to spend frolli 8 U . lli . to lva . m. on the Sundny every THI.hD week (that's 2 hours once every three: weeks) 8 • the ;:,ports Club - is that too much t.o ask?

The present .. 1orh.- force conipri ses :-

Thursdays - \-iv Brown and John .veathers

Sundays - ·'leek 1 is done by Gordon and Jenny Hancock and helpers from the juniors;

i/eek 2 is done by Ted and Joan Herne , Steve and Jan Hr- rne ana their family; :veek ~) is done by St eve Hick.so n, Bruce Redmile , Bill Eurell and John <feathers .

Both t he crews from Sundays 2 and 3 need extr a hands in the morning shift because Gordon Hancock , Ted Herne and John •ieathers each have to devote an extra thr ee hours on the Sunday afternoon to cov~r our other sites and count and tabulate the money . It ' s unfair and unrealistic to expect them to do the two - hnur shift on Sunday mornings as well .

So the ball is jn your back- line seniors, either more of you help or we will hove to con sider pa ying someone to do . it

every week . Please reme~ber thQt the proceeds benefit mainly ti~€ s enior division, including .the A Grade ' s incentive awards w.nich in 1980 totall c:<l $1, 905 . · Viv Brown an d John Weathers will not be a vc;.ilable next year , so let ' s have an offer from you ! 'I'h.nnk s .

Season 1980 was a yea r of many climaxes and anti - climaxes .

For a many people would for Season 1980 . the team suffered

stQrt I thoughtthdt aft er Season 1979 b~ on deck to assist in the football arena This unfortunately was not the case and accordingly .

During the season somE note&bl e gains were made for Bank st own Sports namely tr1e continued i n. provemcnt of ex- juniors into s~nior ranks c5 . I~n hitc , Jami e Cc..rmody, Brett Ritchie to n1me d faw . The aquisition of ~like histi was a~so u good gain for the Sporti~s .

Roy ~ldridge hLlp~d enormously later in the S(:Uson just ~iving some. professional touch lacking in the club at the moment football wise .

The 1980 season for the Res€rvc Grade opened very poorly . Being beaten by Cronulla in the · first game we then sta.rt<::d to get our game together and had some vBry high scoring wins . Unfortunately we l acked the str&ngth and size of Campbell town and ot . Ive; st but I bLlievc what we lacked her e W€ made up for in endi:iavour, a l though being beat&n irr both rounds by these two sid~s al l r esults were close and ha rd fo ught .

It is some corsolation for us tnut we beat both Sydney Uni and Cronulln, bearing in wind tnat these wer e two of thE.: findlists ; All in all we wer E. right in the final s fight to the en d and I belie ve we tried our best .

I would like to ~polob1se to ull the boys and their parents ·for not having the tL! e to devot e t o the coaching of the boys that was necessary this yeAr . Through the year the team lost at least s ix games by l ess than a kick for lihich I blame mysel f and the fact the t eari could not or did not knO 'N how to tighten the gan.e up and vdn at least half of these games . But even .:.tllowi r;g for all this I believe we had ~ very good year, rraybe not in wins but in ind ividua l t alent . Amo~~ the new boys , we hav:e un earthed son,e very good football ers and I hop.e all these boys will s till be with the club . Leon Collins and Philli p York both p layed, well all year ~nd improving with every garre .

Congratulation~ to Sean E~ir on his trophy easily the n·os t impro ved player in tne t earu follow ed by ::::. numb er of other players . Adorn Emir, vavia ulliith , ~ike Bell ,

JYlark f11i llington had a good yeEtr as did tlo bert Brown, Brian Ingold and Andrew Fox . David Pa.t e !lad a great year as his win of the Best and F•airest demonstrates <:n1d David Hage would have ~o be one oi, if not the f astest pl~yEr in the competition .

Craig Evans was pro bably the unlucky p l ayer not t o hove won a tropny . Crciig p1Ely €'d in the p rimary schoolboy~-representative games which wou~a have been good exp erience .

Next year we will lose a few boys to the Under l3' s~ but we will still have a ver y good side ~i~h boys that stay in the Under ll's and the boys thut move from the Under 9's .

.mat I :1muld like to do no •1 is to t hank ever;vone who helpea me throug11out the y ear , who took the boys a t trsining and match~s when I could not be there beca use of work commi tments . Also a special thanks to llirs . Einir fo r t he job she did and the effici ency in which she carried ou t t!':iis work . Last but not least I wou ld like to thank the players for their efforts on the fi eld and off . Nobody can ask for more that 100~ effort and I believe the boys gu~ e that every week. Thank you .
