The Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity provides practical and emotional support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. “We became involved when they asked us for some tickets to Paultons for affected families to have a day out, or indeed for a very poorly child to make one last visit after having happy memories of a previous visit in happier times. “I thought the way they go about providing assistance to these families and the immediate way they can make a difference in a period of crisis makes it a very good cause,” he added. The Rainbow Trust operates eight care teams across the UK offering help for 2,500 families at home, at hospital and in the community. They support seriously ill children and their families by pairing them with a dedicated expert Family Support Worker who becomes a trusted and constant person in family life. It is estimated that over 49,000 children and young people in the UK live with a life limiting or life-threatening condition. Previous Chairman Nick Thompson’s chosen charity was the Lady Taverners, a charity whose mission is to enhance the lives of disadvantaged and disabled young people through sport and recreation. MAY, 2019 NEWS The decision to choose the charity was made by BALPPA’s newly-appointed Chairman, Richard Mancey, MD at Paultons Park. Richard (pictured left) has been involved with visitor attractions for 36 years, having launched Paultons with his parents and wife Sara in 1983. At the beginning of their term, each BALPPA Chairman chooses a charity which the organisation continues to support for the duration of the Chairmanship. “The Rainbow Trust is a charity Paultons Park has worked with for several years. The sudden crisis within families of children who become seriously ill has a devastating impact on everyone. The Trust offers practical support for everyone and this vitally important help can be varied and wide ranging.
