9 Updated on 29th Jan 2016

[Mostar] Mostar is a city in Bosnia, formerly one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country, and today suffering geographical division of ethnic groups. The city was the most heavily bombed of any Bosnian city during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina following the breakup of Yugoslavia. At the beginning of the war, air strikes destroyed many important buildings and structures, including the cultural and spiritual icon: The Old Bridge. Rebuilding of The Old Bridge was completed in 2004, almost 11 years after its destruction. Visitors might be surprised to see that this formerly war-torn city is a lively and beautiful destination once again.

[Jablanica] Jablanica is a town and municipality of the same name in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. The town is situated on the Neretva river and Jablanica lake with beautiful scenery. It is ideal for travellers to take a short break there before proceeding to Sarajevo.

[Sarajevo] Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia, is a compact city on the Miljacka River, surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. Largely restored following the 1990s Bosnian War, its historic core has museums and sites commemorating historic local events, including the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which ignited World War I, and the 1984 Winter Olympics.

Belgrade

11 Updated on 29th Jan 2016

[Belgrade] Belgrade is the capital city of Serbia and has a population of around 1.7 million. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and has since ancient times been an important crossing of the ways where the roads of eastern and western Europe meet. The city lies on two international waterways, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, which surround it on three sides. Because of this position, Belgrade is fittingly referred to as the Gateway to the Balkans and the Door to Central Europe.

[Nis] Nis is the third-largest city in Serbia. It was settled in pre-Roman times and flourished during the time of local-boy-made-good Emperor Constantine (AD 280–337). Turkish rule lasted from 1386 until 1877 despite several Serb revolts; Nis Fortress is reminder of Ottoman dominion. Nis is ideal for travellers to take a short break there before proceeding to Sofia of Bulgaria.

[Veliko Tranovo] Veliko Tarnovo is one of the oldest towns in the country, as its history dates back to more than five thousand years ago, which is proven by archaeological excavations.

The upsurge of Veliko Tarnovo is related to the period of the Second Bulgarian Empire (1185 – 1393). In 1185 the town was declared a capital of the restored Bulgarian State by the brothers Asen and Petar, who declared the end of the Byzantine dominion, which continued for 167 years. After

its selection to be a capital, the town developed fast, as within the period 12th – 14th century it was the most unconquerable Bulgarian fortress, as well as a cultural and intellectual center of Bulgaria.
