Hard to believe summer is almost over. Now, it is time to get ready for what should be a busy fall for the club. On September 8, 9 and 10 we have families hosting inbound exchange students for the weekend Our new chair of Student of the month, Beth Chetney will begin the process for our first presentations along with Shelly Hoffman jumping in to help revive our Interact club. The club will also have its second Think Tank on Wednesday, September 13. The first Think Tank took

place on a Tuesday night in August.. It was fun and very interesting. This work along with

a survey that will be presented by Ken Schmidt will help the club establish a strategic plan and goals for our club.On Tuesday, September 19, 7:00 pm at

the Red Mill Inn we will have our recruitment night; pasta and beef tenderloin will be served. There will be special, brief presentations from McHarrie on the bladder scanner, along with Honor Flight for our vets, and YMCA summer scholarship program for needy kids. It really should be a special night. As of today, we have 10 people attending. If we do this right, the club can pick up a number of new members and have a lot of fun doing it.Our club has received word that the corn mill grinder purchased for the African village is up and working. This will do wonders for this village. The club has a date for our annual 5K run/walk to benefit the food pantry - November 11th. Mary Shmutz, our chair, is very excited with a new approach on recruiting runners,, a new location to host the run and a new course. She is expecting a big

breakthrough this year. Finally, it is a real pleasure to know that Meg VanPatten reached out to Lizzy, who has agreed to be the club president following Meg (in 2019/2020). Congratulations to Lizzy and a fantastic move for the Baldwinsville Rotary club!

HOW TO INVITE A GUEST TO ROTARYInviting someone to visit a Rotary meeting doesn't have to be scary. While time is still a premium, many people are seeking out ways to give back to those around them. There are loving hearts and willing hands all around us, and a well-organized club like ours is a great place for them to gather!

Identify a Potential RotarianIf you know of someone who already lives by The Four Way Test, has a passion for one of our many avenues of service or who may be looking for a way to connect with others in their community, you have a great candidate for a Rotarian.

Be PersonalIn speaking with this person, try not to overwhelm them with everything our club does (we do a lot!). Instead, consider what things you know this person would find interesting or rewarding and expand on how they could get involved through Rotary. Share your Rotary story and make that personal connection.

Go for the AskDon't be afraid to invite them to an upcoming meeting or event. We put together great meeting programs and you always know the schedule in advance. We also have special events, like Charter Night, that make for a great ice breaker.

Hopefully this will help with inviting someone to our upcoming Membership Night. President Don has assembled a group of speakers that will attest to the impact our club has had on the local community. Our goal is to inspire our guests with our love of service while breaking bread.

HOW TO ACCESS THE "FOR MEMBERS" TABThere is a tab on our web site (www.BaldwinsvilleRotary.org) that is labeled For Members. If you access it, you will find information that is for Baldwinsville Rotarians' eyes only, including (but not limited to) a current club roster with contact information, our club bylaws, board meeting minutes and more. It is important that every club member knows where this information is so they can access it anytime, 24/7 on their own. Please refer to this resource of club information first before contacting the club secretary for information.

STEP 1 Log on to BaldwinsvilleRotary.org

STEP 2 Click on the tab "For Members" in the menu bar across the top of the page

STEP 3Enter your log-in name and password. If you don't know your log-in credentials, you can click the link on that page to retrieve your log-in information. You will need to provide your email address that matches the one Rotary has on file and then they will send you the information you need to access the site. If this avenue does not work for you, perhaps your email has changed, please contact Lizzy for assistance.

All members should be comfortable with logging in through ClubRunner (that's the program that runs our site). Be sure to write this information down or save it somewhere so future log-ins will be easier.

In the early spring of 2017, Rotarian Joan Patchett presented an idea to the Baldwinsville Rotary Club board to donate a corn grinding mill to a village in Zimbabwe at a cost of $3,500. Before the end of summer, the project is already complete! Joan met Themba while on a trip to Africa years ago and has kept in touch with him and his family. For years, his village has had to haul their corn to a nearby village to have it milled, so he asked if Joan could help with a donation that would benefit his entire community. After club-wide discussion, it was agreed we would support this project right away. After some careful work to transfer the funds wisely, and help from the local Bulawayo Rotary Club to receive and disperse the funds, the corn mill has been purchased and installed. Thanks to Joan for bringing us the opportunity to do an international project that allowed us to positively impact the community of Ngamo, Zimbabwe! In the photos: Right- Pouring corn into the mill.Bottom - Villagers posing with the new mill.

NGAMO RECEIVES NEW GRINDING MILL

We've already hosted one successful brainstorming session and this month is your last chance to weigh in too. Wednesday Sept 13 we

will hold a Think Tank meeting where members can share any and all constructive or new ideas.

This will be a positive session to try to generate ways that we can grow the club, make Rotary more

accessible, improve fundraising, find efficiencies, communicate better and whatever suggestions you all

come up with!

DG PHYLLIS VISITS & PINS PHF'SDistrict Governor Phyllis Danks, of Marcellus Rotary, made her official visit to our club in early August. As the main program that day, she presented her thoughts on volunteer service, shared the goals from both her and our Rotary International President Ian Riseley, and heaped praise on our club for our membership growth and how active we are year-round. In addition to the goals outlined in the presidential citation to keep us on track with membership, foundation giving, public image and youth, DG Phyllis is excited about the RI challenge to plant a tree for every Rotarian. She will communicate with us about any opportunities to acquire plants that we can put out in the community, but be thinking about tree-friendly programs we can do this Rotary year.

As part of the official District Governor visit, DG Phyllis presented President Don with a banner featuring this year's Rotary theme of Rotary: Making A Difference (see newsletter cover). The club also took this opportunity to have the District Governor present two Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) awards. Members Bruce and Janet both received a PHF+1 pins. Congratulations to them both and thanks to them for their dedication to Service Above Self!

NEW MEMBER: DONAOn a Tuesday night in August we inducted new member Dona Occhipinti. Dona's last name might sound familiar, as her grandfather is the late Past District Governor Mike Occhipinti, a great Rotarian who was from the eastern side of our district. Dona is a clinical researcher at SUNY Upstate and will be primarily attending Tuesday evening meetings. Please be sure to introduce yourself to her if you catch her at an upcoming meeting or club function!

Have an idea for fellowship fun? We are always open to new, fun ideas of things we

can do to explore our region, see a fun show or game and just spend time together with fellow Rotarians.

Share your idea with Ken or Lizzy, who are taking the lead on making fun

things happen!
