bal folk nuevo tramiditional dance music fest-noz and balk folk tunes, rythms & compositions with a czech twist ba.fnu project started in 2009, as the first Czech folk band combinig traditional dance rhythms with samples, loops and electronics. The revolutions of tango nuevo and electroswing being the main inspiration, ba.fnu keeps it's focus on European folk dance music and aspires to create a bridge between tradition and moderny, with a deep respect for the traditional material. In 2012, after years of discovering Breton and French music for local audience, the band stepped back to it's roots by reviving traditional Czech dances and sharing them with bal folk crowd all around the Europe. In 2014 ba.fnu added some traditional and semi-forgotten instruments into their setup (wallachian kobza, vozembouch, fujara) and launched their first CD. In 2015 band started a joint project with famous Breton singer Yann-Fañch Kemener, leading to a new CD, YFK~2016. ba.fnu is also the only Czech bal folk band travelling the world, from Portugal to Lithuania, playing and teaching at festivals such as Boombal, Grand bal de l'Europe at Gennetines, Andanças, Damada and many others. ba.fnu performs with a variable line-up: trio with cittern, hurdy-gurdy, percussion and samples being the essence of the sound, and guests bringing more flavour with violin, flutes, harp, kantele and extra vocals.
