With a pedigree dating back several hundred years, Balk Shipyard is now in the capable hands of the seventh generation of the
family. Today we offer you genuinely state-of-the-art rebuild and refit facilities, the product of major investments in optimising
efficiency. At the same time we never forget our more humble roots, or the experiences gained over the many years of serving
a global clientele. Driven by history, the Balk family and its dedicated workforce remain committed to ensuring that our future
lives up to our past.
Driven by history...
Traditionally innovativeAt Balk Shipyard tradition truly meets innovation. We take a no-nonsense approach to our work, unashamed of hard graft.
At the same time, our specialists have access to the very latest facilities, systems and equipment. Major investments have been
made over the past five years across the entire yard, leveraging on our expertise in refits and the way such work is carried out
in practice. With three new halls, dedicated workshops and a first-class warehouse, the layout and logistics are organised to
create maximum flexibility. Our offices overlook the projects at hand, ensuring the shortest lines of communication. And our
project-managed approach makes the most of our long experience at the heart of the premium Dutch yachting industry.
Generations of shipbuilding skills have been the driving force behind the Balk success story. Today we place a major emphasis
on maintaining industry-leading levels of training and education. The yard also has access to the shipbuilding-related skills
for which Urk and this region of the Netherlands is rightly famous. We take on many aspects of our projects in-house, from
extending superstructures to relaying decks, from repairing navigation equipment to decorating cabins, from installing the
latest systems to engine replacements. Balk also has long-lasting relationships with sub-contractors who understand how
our yard works and seamlessly reinforce the team when required. Feel free to ask anyone in the industry for references as our
reputation is second to none.
People power
At Balk Shipyard refits and rebuilds of up to sixty metres in length are our core business
and we have two dedicated halls for this purpose. When your yacht arrives at our yard, everything is
carefully reviewed and inventoried. Successful refits are a delicate balance between what needs
changing and what should remain. Our managers will cooperate closely with you and your
representatives, and we have the flexibility to respond to changing ideas while keeping control
over expenses.
Refits and rebuilds
Upgrading navigation equipment? Installing new engines? Laying a fresh teak deck? Repairing the stabilisers or electrics?
Changing a propeller? An exterior paint job? Not every boat that comes to Balk Shipyard needs a comprehensive refit.
We carry out all forms of maintenance and repair activities on luxury yachts over 20 metres.

Based upon our decades of experience with aluminium, Balk Shipyard also builds large superyacht sections for other top
builders. From complete hulls to major superstructure parts, this work is carried out in our new construction hall which is
the very height of technical efficiency. The building also showcases the latest thinking in engineering and sustainability
with eco-proof floor heating, a high tech air-filtering system, high voltage power plus a unique combination of natural
and artificial lighting. There are also three ultra-modern ten-tonne cranes.

The sophisticated outdoor slipway at Balk is unique in mainland Europe. A six-metre depth means that any vessel able to sail
on the IJsselmeer Lake can also come to Balk for service. Up to 1200 tonnes of weight can be handled by the immense cranes,
which lift vessels on to dry ground of more than 60 metres in length and 12 metres wide. Small wonder some of Holland’s
leading superyacht builders also use our slipway facilities.

New buildsWhile refitting is our core business, Balk Shipyard has all the skills and facilities in-house for new build projects too. The largest
to date is the 65m classic schooner Mikhail S. Vorontsov. In partnership with Valeriy G. Stepanenko, Dream Ship Victory,
Dykstra & Partners and Ken Freivokh, this luxurious RINA classified vessel meets the highest Dutch standards of superyacht
construction.

As the seventh generation of the Balk family to stand at the helm of this yard, I am well aware of how radically things have
changed at my family’s yard since 1787. But I still like to think that you will receive the same warm welcome my ancestors
gave should you carry out a project here. Thanks to my exceptional management team and personnel, Balk Shipyard in
the Netherlands offers you an excellent price quality ratio. We also have a dedicated office in Cannes as part of
the Holland Yacht Experience group. Let’s talk about how we might be of service.
