History Tennis was introduced to Bahrain in mid 1960 by expects who was working in Bahrain andvarious fields and later on Tennis developed further and attracted the locals to play Tennisand from there Tennis became popular and started to be played all over the Island.Public Security Club, Bahrain Tennis Club, Awali Club and the Indian Club were the venueswhere the game was first practiced.
The Bahraini Tennis Federation (BTF) was founded in early April 1980, under the umbrella ofGeneral youth for sports (GOYS) and started their mission to develop the game of Tennis.
The head of International Tennis Federation Development Mr. Doug McCurdy, along withBarbara Wank and Jeremy Scheel, were in charge of developing Tennis in the region andassisted in provided several training courses for the national team players, referees andcoaches.
Bahrain was a pioneer in organizing GCC tournaments, as it organized the first GCC JuniorChampionship in 1982 and Bahrain won the first places in all its categories.
The BTF became affiliated to the International Tennis Federation in 1982. And in 1985, joinedthe Asian Tennis Federation. The BTF also joined the GCC Tennis Organizing Committee in theyear 1986.

Achievements•Bahrain won second place in the under-16 singles championship in November, 1991.•Essam Abdulaal won first place in the singles event in the Fourth GCC Championship,which was held in Saudi Arabia from December 24 to 27, 1991.• Bahrain tennis teams participated in the GCC Teams Championship held in the
Sultanate of Oman from February 1 to 7, 1992.1. Winning first place in the seniors age category2. Second place in the under-14 age category3. Fourth place in the under-18 age category
•Essam Abdelaal won first place in the Shahba Al Sham International Championship inDamascus in 1992 and 1993. They finished third in 1995 and second in 1996.•Hesham Abdelmajeed won first place in the singles category in the Panasonic OpenChampionship held in Saudi Arabia from October 12 to 29, 1993.•Bahrain finished second in the Fourth Under-16 Arab Championship held in home andaway basis in 1993.•The junior team won the under-14 championship in third place in the Third ArabChampionship in Saudi Arabia in September, 1993.•Bahrain were second in the Seventh Under-15 Teams Championship in 1996.•Bahrain won the first place on GCC senior teams held on Riyadh, KSA April 2015
