A heap of trash that’s twice the size of Texas is float-ing somewhere between San Francisco and Hawaii. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, as it’s called, is 80 percent plastic, and weighs in at 3.5 million tons.

Trapped in a circular course by winds and currents, it’s been around since the 1950s, and has been grow-ing tenfold every decade. It’s not a dumping ground in the sense that people are flying or boating by and throwing their refuse into the heap.

Instead, it’s picking up trash that originates onshore,

and has since made its way out into the Pacific. Clean-ing it up doesn’t sound too likely, since the effort would cost billions, but it would be nice if we figured out a way to stop adding to it. Another possibility: turning it into a sort of anti-Disney World. Surely that would convert even the worst plastic-wasting offend-ers among us into ardent environmentalists.

So my question to you all is why don’t we recycle? Don’t just throw your plastics away go put them in a recycle bin. If you don’t own one then go see if your neighbor has one; if they don’t own one either then a lot of other people or places have one. For instance the beach, parks, and in alleys; don’t just throw your trash on the ground.

I think that, that trash state is big enough. It’s too late to clean it up now because it’s going to grow bigger as our reliance on plastic continues.” A good first step would be using canvas bags to cart groceries instead of using plastic bags.

The new Prius car is an en-ergy efficient car that uses an 11.9 gallon tank and gets a 46mpg. Some of it’s features are a 1.5 liter cylinder engine with a permanent magnet a.c electric motor. The new Prius Hybrid is said to be the most fuel-efficient car on the road today. Cars take a toll on the en-vironment, which is often hidden, but always very real. We all pay for the adverse health impacts of air pol-lution, oil spills and global climate disruption from consumption of fossil fuels. But it’s possible to mini-mize negative environmental impacts and still meet your transportation needs.

Here’s how they work: Hybrid electric vehicles combine an internal combustion gasoline engine with an electric motor and a battery pack. Typically, they use electricity for start-ing, backing up and low speed driving; gasoline for most nor-mal driving; and a combina-tion of gasoline and electricity for full throttle driving. The

gasoline engine stops running whenever the car stops mov-ing.The gasoline engine also gen-erates its own electricity on board, so the batteries never need charging. Additional electricity is obtained from the braking system. Braking, or taking your foot off of the ac-celerator, captures the kinetic energy from the wheels and converts it into electric ener-gy, which is stored in battery. That’s why if you ever decide to go green and your look-ing for a car that fits in the category of green cars in my opinion the Prius Hybrid Car is the best! The Prius Hybrid prices range from $22,400 all the way to $27,670.

Toyota is recalling 437,000 Prius and other hybrid vehicles worldwide to fix brake prob-lems — the latest embarrassing safety lapse at the world's largest automaker.

In the U.S., Toyota will recall 133,000 Prius cars and 14,500 Lexus HS250h vehicles. Nearly 53,000 Priuses are also being recalled in Europe. Toyota is suspending production of the Sai and Lexus HS250h in Japan until updated software for those models is ready.

If drivers experience a delayed reaction when pressing the brakes in any of these models, they should keep pressing, ac-cording to Toyota and the trans-port ministry. The Prius repairs have started in Japan. U.S. own-ers are starting to receive letters.

Mr. Toyoda promised to take the initiative to advance safety to the next level. He reiterated his focus on putting customers first and making sure that going for-ward the company will do all it can to further improve commu-nications and work more closely with the Department.

What’s In Your Food?By Cecelia Morrow, Noelani Pierce, and Kweli Garbutt.

Do you read the ingredients in your food? For most people the answer is no. But we think you should know. After we tell you the ingredients in some popular foods you probably won’t even want to look at the foods let alone eat it. Read on to find out what’s in your food. As you can see most foods have corn syrup and artificial dyes. They also may have gum acacia. Do you know what these ingredients are? Well we did some research and found out what they are. Gum acacia is part of the inside of the acacia tree and is used as a thickener. Artificial dyes are artificial colored substances and are used to color most sodas and other foods. Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup are both made of fructose, a substance found

in most fruits and a part of a certain type of corn. It is then processed and becomes high fructose corn syrup. Two other ingredients in most foods are soy lecithin and emulsifiers. Soy lecithin is a by-product of soybean oil. An

emulsifier is a chemical that is used to keep certain oils from combining and clumping together. Sodium diacetate and sodium caseinate are by products of salt. Corn syrup is a danger to your health

and your heart. New studies show that too much corn syrup in your diet is a cause of obesity. Artificial dyes aren’t very good for your health either. They are made of man made substances that are processed and artificial (unreal). Sodium diacetate and sodium caseinate are bad for you because sodium raises your blood pressure. So to keep healthy, chose substitutes for these foods and please read the ingredients in your food. So you can stay healthy and happy.

Ingredients of Hot Flamins

Enriched corn meal (corn meal, ferrous sulfate, niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid), vegetable oil (contains one or more of the following: corn, soybean, or sunflower oil), salt, maltodextrin, sugar, monosodium glutamate, autolyzed yeast extract, citric acid, artificial color (including red 40 lake, yellow 6 lake, yellow 6, yellow 5), corn syrup solids, partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil, hydrolyzed soy protein, cheddar cheese (cultured milk, salt, enzymes), whey, onion powder, whey protein concentrate, corn syrup solids, natural flavor, buttermilk solids, garlic powder, disodium phosphate, , lactic acid, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, nonfat milk solids, sodium citrate, and carrageenan.

Ingredients of M&Ms:

Milk chocolate (sugar, chocolate, cocoa butter, skim milk, milk fat, lactose, soy lecithin, salt, artificial flavors), sugar, cornstarch, less than 1%: corn syrup, dextrin, coloring (includes blue 1 lake, red 40 lake, yellow 6, yellow 5, red 40, blue 1, blue 2 lake, yellow 6 lake, yellow 5 lake, blue 2), gum acacia.

People in every sport are getting injured. Some of these people teams really need. Players such as Yao Ming are out for a full career year just for injuries.

In basketball, Yao Ming is out of the season with an ankle injury. If he’s out for the season then the Houston Rockets won’t make to the championship. Probably, not even the finals, Yao’s teammates need him to win the games. Why? Because he helps them until they

reach success. For football, Jamal Lewis with his teammate, Brodney Pool have been ruled out because of post-concussion symptoms. Since they’re gone, their team, the Cleveland Browns, is suffering in the games without them. They need to get better real soon. In baseball, Jordan Zimmermann is out

for the 2010 baseball season, all because an elbow injury. If he had not been injured, his team just might’ve made it to the WORLD SERIES. A person who is injured needs to be 100 percent before they come back and play because if they injure their self again in the same spot, they probably could be out for the rest of the season or not come back until the middle of the season. The injury have been brutal, like pulling their hamstring or breaking their ankles and their team might need them. What will they do after their career is over? Will they have a b-ball camp or live their life like Junior

Seau, the football veteran that is a middle line backer for the Patriots. The point is that the people that got injured and had to get out the season are sometimes the best players. As the players suffer their pain, the teams sometimes suffer loss. The player’s needs to be one hundred percent healed to help the team out.

Wake Me Up When September Ends

Green DayBy Christopher Johnson

21st Century Breakdown (Al-bum) made by Green Day. They have music packed with great things. Each and every word of the lyrics hits you when you really think about what they say. Some of the songs are re-ally great. The song, “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” is one of the songs that actually helps you understand about things that’s going around in life. In the video for this song, he joins the army so he and his girlfriend can have a better life but he’s in a really tight situ-ation when his teammates are hurt and or killed in the process of proceeding to the check-point. Also in this song called, “21 Guns,” the characters are trying to fight a very hard situ-ation when they’re surrounded by the police and they have no other choice but to give up. At the last part they kiss because they know that there going to die or be separated from each other. Even though you may not be able to understand what they’re saying, you just have to understand the process of their words. Just listen to them very carefully, then you will see the meaning of their words. Thank you for reading, all.

The band Dragon Ash is very popular in Japan. They were one of the first to bring Hip Hop, but to Japan to tell the truth, they are not all Hip Hop.

Music makes you lose controlBackpack News volume 2

The kind of music the band plays is an mix of Hip Hop and Rock, so if you have been look-ing for an band like this you can thank me later. The head of the band is Kenji Furuya. He speaks a little bit of English.

I love the lyrics to every song the band wrote. I also like the guitar on the song. My favorite song by Dragon Ash is Ivory. I hope you the reader will search up Dragon Ash on Google.

Dragon Ash Ivory Lyrics

It seems to give a little moisture to your cracked body temperature And to enrage a lion that had been previously frolicking,

this furious morning special Music in a spot in the sun, for… The buttons I do up wrong when I get up, and the ivory that stains my

dream Ex.
