HOW TO USE YOUR BACKPACK AIRBLOWER

GASOUNE AND OIL MIXTURE

Important! Do not use automotiveor boatoils inyour air blower. These oilsdo nothave properadditives for 2-cycle, air-cooled enginesand cancause engine damage.

The 2.cycle engine onthis productrequiresa fuelmixtureof regular unleaded gasolineand a highquality2-cycle air-cooled engine oil for lubricationof thebearings and other movingpads. The correctfuel:oilmixture is 40-1 (see Fuel MixtureChad). Too littleoilor the incorrectoil type will cause poorperformanceand may cause the engine to overheatand seize.

Gasoline and oil must be premixedina cleanapproved fuel container.Alwaysuse fresh regularunleaded gasoline. This engine is certifiedto operateon unleaded 'gasoline.

IMPORTANTI Alcoholblended fuelscalled gasohol(usingethanolor methanol)can attract moisture, which leads to oil/gas separation andformationofacidsduringstorage. Acidicgas can damage the fuelsystemof an engine while in storage. To avoidengineproblems, the fuel systemshould be emptied beforestorage of 30 days or longer.Drainthe gas tank, thenrun the fuel out of the carburetor and fuel lines bystartingthe engine and lettingit run until it stops.Usafresh fuel next season. See storageinstructionsforadditionalinfot'mation.Never use engineor carburetorcleaner produc_sin the fuel tank or permanentdamagemay occur.

2-CYCLE OILCraftsman 2-cycle, air-cooledengine oil is speciallyblended with fuel stabilizers. If you do not usethisSears oil,you can add a fuel stabilizer, suchasCraftsman No. 33500, to your fuel mix.

FUEL STABILIZERA fuel stabilizer is an acceptable altamativeinminimizingthe formation of fuel gumdepositsduringstorage. Add stabilizerto gasoline mixturein fuelstorage container and mix well. Always follow the fuelmix ratiofound on the stabilizercontainer.Run engineat least 5 minutes after adding stabilizerto allow thestabilizerto reach the carburetor. You donot have todrain the fuel tank for storage if youare using fuelstabilizer.

USING THE MULTI-FUNCTION HANDLE_Themulti-functionhandle has an on-off switch (Fig. 5,A), a throttlelever (Fig. 5, B), and a speed lever (Fig.5, C). It can be rotated to assure the operator's

•comfort.Once started, the speed lever can be set at adesired RPM. This frees the operator from holdingthethrottlelever. If notset on maximumRPM and a

• greater RPM is required, simplysqueeze the throttlelever. To returnto the lower RPM, release the throttlelever. If the operator plans on blowingat the maximumRPM for a long period of time, the speed lever ismovedto the =max" setting. If the operator is onlyblowingin shortbursts leave the speed lever at the"min" settingand use the throttle lever to controlthespeed.

FIGURE 5

STARTING COLD1. Moveon-off switchto the on positionidentified

withan "1"(Fig. 5).2. Set speed lever halfway between the =rain" '_

and "max"'_ positions(Fig. 5).3. Move choke lever (Fig. 6, A) to the =START"

position.4. Press primer bulb(Fig. 6, B) until it is half full and

resistanceis felt.5. Place left hand on top of the blower housingnear

carryinghandle. Pull the starter rope handle'withrighthand slowly until resistance is felt. Then pullforcefullyand repeatedly until engine attemptstostart; usually2-3 pulls, no more than 5 pulls.

6. When engine attempts to start, immediately movechoke lever t0 "RUN" posifion.Continue to pullstarterrope handle untilengine starts.

REPLACE SPARK PLUGChange your spark plugeach year to make yourengine start easy and run better. Set spark pluggap at.020".

CLEAN FUEL FILTERThe fuel filter is located insidethe fuel tank and isattachedto the fuel line. To clean, scrub fuel filtersurfacewith a small brush, Replace if deteriorated.

CLEAN ENGINE CYLINDER COOLING FINSFor best performance, keep dirt from accumulatingaround the enginecoolingfins. Clogged coolingfinscause the engineto run hotter and shortenengine life.Coolingfinsmay be cleaned usinga toothbrushor stiffbristle brush.

CLEAN SPARK ARRESTOR SCREEN (if installed)Afterevery 25 hoursof use the spark arrestor screenmust be cleaned. Replace screen if detadorating(partno. 2048391).To clean:1. Remove the four screws fromthe engine cover.2. Remove the four screws fromthe end of the

muffler,3. Remove the screen and clean with a wire brush.

Replace the screen if deteriorated.4. Re-installthe screen and muffler end. Secure with

the four screws.5. Re-installthe engine cover.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTTo complywithemissionregulations, the carburetormixtureis pre-set at the factory and can not beadjustedwithoutpropertools. Any adjustmentmust beperformedby _ service center.

The idle speed'can be adjusted. The idle speed setscrew is located on the top of the unit and to the left ofthe spark plug. It is indicated by the letter=r". Toadjustthe idle speed, turn clockwiseto increase andcounterclockwiseto decrease idle speed. Idle speed is2100 + 100 RPM.

Prepare your backpack air blowerfor storage at theend of the season or if the unitwill notbe used for 30days or more.

BEFORE STORING1. Use soap and water to wipe down unit.2. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, and fasteners

are securelyfastened. Inspectfor damaged orworn parts. Replace if necessary.

BLOWER TUBESThe straightblowertubes can be removed to easestorage. Use care notto "kink" the throttlecable.

ENGINEIt is importantto prevent gum depositsfromforminginessentialfuel system partssuch as the carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose, or tank duringstorage. Also, alcoholblendedfuels, such as gasohol, ethanolor methanol, can attractmoisture, which leads to separationandformation of acids duringstorage.Acidicgas candamage the fuel system of an engine while instorage.Do notstore gasolinefrom one season to the next.Two-cycle mix ages quicklyand can cause enginedamage. Replace your gasolinecontainerif it starts torust. Rustor dirt in your gasolinewill cause engineproblems.

To avoid engine problems, the fuel systemshouldbeemptied before storage of 30 days or more.Followthese instructions:1. Drainthe fuel tank.2. Start engine and let it run untilthe fuel linesand

carburetorare empty. (The engine willstop.)3. Use fresh gas next season.4. If you use a fuel stabilizer, the gasolinecan be left

inthe tank. CAUTION: Never storeair blowerinsidea buildingwith fuel in the tank{ Fumescanconcentrateand possibly reach a source ofignition. Allow engine to cool before storage.

5. Remove spark plug.6, Pour a few drops of oil intothe cylinder.7. Pull the starter handleslowlyto distributethe oil.8. Replace spark plug,

STORAGE TIPSIf possible, storeyour unit indoorsand cover itto giveit protectionfrom dust and dirt. Do notuse plastic.Plasticcannot breath, which will allowcondensationtoform and will cause your unit to rust. IMPORTANT:Never coverair blower while engine and mufflerarestillwarm.
