S1-Dr. Moody nipped S3-Dr. Alborzi 3-2 in OT

Sequoyah Klingele’s breakaway goal :54 into OT won it for Dr. Moody in a well-played defensive battle, inspired by the sight of former San Jose Sharks defenseman (and current SF Bulls coach) Tom Pederson.

Spurred on by the presence of the SF Bulls’ mascot, Laurel Mitton led the scoring charge (get it, spur, Rawhide, charge...?) by feeding PJ Modena with a sweet pass, and Modena fired home a long low forehand from the left faceoff circle. P3-Christine Maren Salon trimmed P1-Maguire Tree Care 6-3

Cameron DeVry scored twice and 4 other players had goals as Christine Maren Salon notched its first victory of the season.

Maguire Tree Care got on the board first when TJ Nilsen was undeterred by a broken chassis and scored 1:20 into the game, but two minutes later Chase Hebb tied it when he went high with a forehand. Those were the only two goals of the first 15 minutes as Christine Maren Salon received staunch defense from Jacob Poss and Emma Heiberger.

William Outman made a tape-to-tape pass to set up Ben Wylie for his first of two goals, asnramped one up the blocker side for the lead.

Maguire Tree Care blueliners Travis Hamilton and Aidan Bautista defused forward Casey Co at mid-rink, and the score remained 2-1 at the second intermission.

Play opened up in the third period as Charles Hogg and Eric Martin cleared the zone effectively and Michael Vanremoortere and Ryan Hildebrand found some space to skate. DeVry maneuvered between defenders and lit the lamp on a forehand at the 12:33 mark for the team’s third score.

Logan Bautista went in 2-on-1 and converted a pass from Jake Metz to make it 3-2, but DeVry notched another as he one-timed a Wylie pass 1:25 later.

Keagan Maguire scored a nifty low backhand to cut it to 4-3, but it took just 1:32 for Wylie to get an insurance goal off a pass from Sasha Kulda, as the big center laid the lumber on the puck and found nothing but net.

With 1:18 to play Jonhenry Poss tucked home a rebound of his own shot, to make the final score 6-3 in favor of Christine Maren Salon. Trevor Hodge used his twig to make 12 saves in the team’s first win of the season.

S2-Dr. Maahs defeated S3-Dr. Alborzi 7-0

Allison Co and Colin Ryder combined to pitch the first shutout of the young NCHL season, as Dr. Maahs cruised to a 7-0 win. Ryder, Alan Ou and Billy Ou each had 2 goals to lead the scoring binge.

Co and Ryder were rarely tested, while in the other net, Evan Alexander, Mat Bucher and Mason Deal combined to make 16 saves in defeat.

Alan Ou scored the only goal of the first period on a low forehand, then set up Ryder for a second-stanza goal through the 5-hole, before scoring again on a breakaway.

Forwards Annie Ginna, Brennan Higaki and Jonathan Billington skated well mid-rink but were unable to generate many scoring chances against the staunch Dr. Maahs defense of Max Hunter and Rowan Layne.

Dr. Maahs extended its lead to 4-0 midway through the second period when Ryder scored his second of two off a pass from Aiden Forbes.

Forbes notched his second assist when he spotted Billy Ou, and the rookie went low glove side. He got on the board again on a low forehand for the team’s fifth goal of the period, and Forbes

P4-Godoy Construction beat P2-Fincon 5-3Nolan Gallant had a hat trick and Pablo Jaramillo had a

pair of goals to lead Godoy Construction to its second win of the season. Johnny Brozovich had 2 goals and Billy Ginna had a goal and an assist in defeat.

Ginna opened the scoring for Fincon as he took a headmanned pass from Griffin Chalif and deposited the puck in the net. Jaramillo tied it for Godoy Construction on a set up from Gloria Oseguera, her first of two helpers on the day, as he slid in a shot from the slot.

Godoy Construction took the lead when Gallant went in alone and lit the lamp with a 5-hole goal, and the gold-clad team wouldn’t be headed the rest of the way. Gallant then scored again from the left faceoff circle when he lifted a forehand high past the goalie’s stick for the 3-1 lead at the first intermission.

Jaramillo extended the lead to 3 when he slapped home an Elijah Lurie centering pass for the middle period’s only score. Brozovich got one back early in the third as he muscled one home, but Gallant got that back as he completed his hat trick off a rebound of an Oseguera shot. The Fincon defensive tandem of Evan Reeve and Mark Vann Jr. got in the passing lanes to prevent further damage.

Luna Bliss and Shay Heath worked hard to keep Fincon forward Jared Fanning and high-scoring center Sofie Green off the scoresheet. Jessica Oseguera stopped 11 shots in goal for the victors, with help from Mason Liaghat and Treythan Krieger.

Brozovich tallied his second as time ticked down, as he rattled home the rubber on a slapshot off a feed from Ginna.

Patrick Ginna made 15 sprawling saves, as stay-at-home defenseman Ryan Tate helped tie up Godoy Construction forward Joel Glasman and clean up action in front of the crease, but Godoy skated out the remaining seconds to win the battle of the unbeatens.

Glasman joins DoubleShot winners list Ilan Glasman, a past DoubleShot winner, was the sole successful contest to slide the puck from mid-rink past “Woody,” our DoubleShot goalie. Glasman, like all successful contestants, received a Player Meal Deal and a Snack Buck, and qualified for the Double-Shot DoubleShootout Finals on Sunday, Aug. 5. Ilan Glasman

The Coastside is one of the greenest, most environmentally friendly places around, and part of the reason is due to Maguire Tree Care. Since 1997 the company’s Certified Arborists have been caring for trees and shrubs all along the Peninsula and Coastal cities.

The family-owned business is dedicated to preserving trees throughout the Bay Area. Paul Maguire and his knowledgeable staff have helped preserve nature’s beauty and select, plant and maintain the trees and shrubs on the property of many local residents.

Their expertise enables them to provide services far beyond those offered by most tree services. In addition, they have the correct liability and Workman’s Comp insurance that is required to perform work at heights. Their many years of experience in large tree pruning, ornamental and fruit tree pruning, fertilizing and selecting and planting new trees has drawn rave reviews from numerous clients.

The Maguire family has been involved in the NCHL for several years and heartily endorse the use of graphite and other high-tech materials, as no trees were harmed in the manufacturing of PeeWee player #60 Keagan Maguire’s composite hockey stick. This year Maguire Tree Care sponsors the PeeWee 1 team coached by Matt Hamilton, and has one of the more colorful dasherboard ad panels, situated right behind the North goal.

closed out the scoring when he converted a pass from Alan Ou. Forwards Billy Kulda and Leo Lucey tried to rally

Dr. Alborzi, but Abigaile Co helped seal the victory. Devin Costa and Moss Michelsen had pep in their step

and displayed some deft stickhandling, but were never able to penetrate the tough Dr. Maahs defense.

Jonathan Billington had a lot of net at which to shoot, but was foiled on this scoring chance.

The coaches had some anxious moments in the Squirt contests including this point when the goalie went left but the puck went right, though it didn’t cross the goal line.

(Answer: The puck just left his stick and was partially concealed by his right skate.)

Godoy Construction forward Pablo Jaramillo got behind the defense, but goalie Ryan Tate bent down low to smother this scoring attempt as Patrick Ginna (#85 blue) arrived to clean up any potential rebound.

No Goal! Ethan Glasman fired from the slot but Mason Martuscelli turned it aside on a great stick save.
