A word from the MIMM Chair
Dear MIMMers April is the last month of the Winter termand of the 2016shy2017 academic yearmeaning that the final exam period is fastapproaching While we hope for thearrival of Spring I wish everybody a verysuccessful end of term and final examperiod
On March 15th the Department ofMicrobiology amp Immunology participatedfor the first time in a oneshyday fundraising
ACHIEVEMENTS
Bravo Gala14th March 2017 saw the cream ofMcGill researchers celebrate theirachievements together with theirfamilies friends and colleagues Thegala was hosted by Rosie GoldsteinVice Principal of Research andInnovation The winners of majorprovincial national and internationalprizes and scholarships spanningdifferent fields from Mathematics toAnthropology were honoured fortheir unparalled dedication to theirprofession and insatiable quest ofexploring the unanswerable Award RecipientsWe would like to congratulate thefollowing MIMM members for their
campaign called McGill24 This McGillshywide initiative consisted of solicitingpotential donors to directly support ourDepartment primarily through emailmessages and social media Preliminarycalculations indicate that MIMM wassupported to the level of $2645 I wouldlike to thank very much the MIMMorganizers and everybody thatspecifically chose to support ourDepartment We already receivedinteresting ideas for next yearrsquoscampaign and are open to anysuggestions you may have to build on ourfirst McGill24 participation In March two important changeshappened at the CIHR The replacementof the President Dr Alain Beaudet by abasic scientist from our McGillCommunity Dr Roderick McInnes(Director of the LDI) and the retirement ofDr Jane Aubin as Chief Scientific Officerand ViceshyPresident ResearchKnowledge Translation and Ethics We alldeeply hope that these importantchanges in the CIHR leadership will leadto significant transformations where theCIHR will finally listen to the Canadianresearch community that it serves andtake our recommendations intoconsideration in implementing these longrequested and needed changes The past two weeks were quite difficultfor our MIMM Community The passing ofJessica Yudcovitch one of our U3honours students was a shock to us allJessica was a brilliant student and a kindhearted individual Among her friendsand peers she will be remembered forher contagious laugh peaceful smile andunparalleled determination to pursue herdreams She will forever be in our heartsand will forever be a part of the MIMMFamily I am pleased to share with you

Friday March 31st at the CABARET LIONDrsquoOR was an amazing success where theMIMM Community gathered to celebrateanother successful academic year Theattendance was doubled compared tolast year with a record of 201 attendeesreaching the limit capacity of the venueWe have to acknowledge the hard workof MISA and the MIMM Gala Committeeto have organized such a wonderfulevent in particular Olivia Ganescu (MISAPresident) and Lana Kobeici (MIMMSenior Administrative Coordinator) thatcarried most of the organization on theirshoulders Thanks a lot for yourremarkable effort and commitment it ishighly appreciated I am already lookingforward to next year Last but not least we have tocongratulate and wish all the best to the2017 MIMM graduating class Be proudof your accomplishment and pleaseremember that you will always be part ofthe MIMM Family at McGill UniversityStay in touch with your Alma Mater welove hearing back from our graduates All the best Ben
