Greetings Beasts! The old saying goes “April showers bring May flowers” comes to us this year with a slight twist as the weather so far this month has been extraor-dinary! Ensure you and your families take time out of the busy work week to enjoy the nice weather that spring has bestowed upon us. The spring/summer sea-son is rich with travel opportunities, whether you are staying local or visiting one of the many beautiful loca-tions in neighboring countries. As always, be safe and travel with a plan. Training this month will build upon previous lessons learned in efforts to prepare us for our upcoming Detachment FTX and FMSU VBS2 Convoy Ex-ercise, where your financial management, survivability, and leadership skills will be tested to the max. Remem-ber, this month is the Month of the Military Child. Be sure to kiss and hug your children, for they too serve their country by supporting YOU! This is the season also for outdoor sports, so be sure to stretch properly and warm up before your competitive endeavors. Get out and bike ride, run, swim, and have fun. And most impor-tantly, BE SAFE!!

Bravo Beasts started out this month by volunteering with the

Red Cross to collect blood donations in the Kaiserslautern

area. One pint of blood can save up to three lives. Great

Job Soldiers! Lets continue saving lives and spirits by arming

ourselves with the power of knowledge. April is Sexual As-

sault Awareness month; we conducted a “Ready Strong” run

in support of Sexual Assault awareness with the 21st TSC at

Rhine Ordnance Barracks. There is zero tolerance for sexual

assault; the guidance given by Chief of Staff, Gen Odierno

is that we will prevent sexual assault from occurring, we are

professional as we will conduct ourselves as such! Sexual

assault threatens the integrity, mission readiness and moral

of the Army. Everyone play a role in the fight against sex-

ual harassment and sexual assault. We must speak up and

look out for one another. As a leader it is your responsibil-

ity to ensure your Soldiers have the tools and know the nec-

essary steps to take if they or a battle buddy get harassed

or sexually assaulted. Let’s be proactive and not reactive.

EASTER

Beast Report Page 2

Which came first: The rabbit or the egg? The Easter bunny was

reportedly introduced to America by German immigrants with

“tails” of an egg-laying rabbit. In the early 1700’s, in Pennsyl-

vania, German immigrants spread their traditional story of the

rabbit who laid eggs, called “Osterhase”. The children built nests

around the yard for the rabbit to lay its colorful eggs. Some-

times they even left carrots about, in case it got hungry.

Decorating eggs for Easter dates back to the 13th century. Once

a forbidden food during the Lenten season, people would paint

and decorate the eggs to mark the end of the period of penance

and fasting, and then eat them on Easter as a celebration.

Join Bravo Detachment on this Thursday, 17

April 2014, at 1500, for a family gathering to

celebrate Easter. We will be hosting events

such as face painting, races, and of course an

egg hunt!

APRIL EARTH DAY By PFC Nalukwago

Beast Report Page 3

The theme for this month is

Earth day. Each year, Earth Day April 22 marks the anniversary of

what many consider the birth of the modern environmental move-

ment in 1970. Earth Day Net-work launched the Green Cities

campaign in the fall of 2013 to help cities around the world be-

come more sustainable and re-duce their carbon footprint. Fo-

cused on three key elements – buildings, energy, and transpor-

tation – the campaign aims to help cities accelerate their transi-

tion to a cleaner, healthier, and

more economically viable future through improvements in efficiency, investments in renewable technol-

ogy, and regulation reform. Leaving in Germany, we are always told to conserve as much energy as we can through recycling, turning off the

lights if we are not using the room. Small acts like these help in pre-serving our environment for future generation.

Another theme for this month is volunteering. It is always good

to give back to the community. It is not necessary through monetary form . You can give back to the community by giving blood, helping out

someone with their groceries ,or picking up trash . W e have different organizations that you can work with like the Red Cross, BOSS, and

USO. For the Bravo Beasts, they have demonstrated their volunteer spirit by working with the Red Cross to organize a blood drive on the

9th of April. GO BEASTS!!

The lent season is coming to an end and Easter is around the corner. For Christians , they commemorate the death and resurrection

of Jesus Christ. He died on the cross for the sins of man. It is a time to spend with loved ones and to give back to the community just like the

gift Jesus gave to us by dying on the cross.

Lending A Hand at Landstuhl By PFC Gwyn

SPC Bae, PFC Gwyn, and PFC Carreon set up equipment

I had a great time helping out

the staff set up for their upcom-

ing events at Landstuhl Elemen-

tary School. As a person it al-

ways feels good to give back to

the community, which is one of

our seven army values, selfless

service. Going to the elementary

school hit right at home for me

because I have two younger sib-

lings, both still in grade school

themselves. It just reminded me

how much I missed them and

how it would feel to be doing the

exact same thing in our commu-

nity back at home. The military

is a family as a whole, and when

we all have loved ones down

range because duty calls it’s always good to know you have other service

members back on the home front to get things done. I’m sure the kids had

a great time at the event and I feel proud to have been a part of the mis-

sion.

16TH SPECIAL TROOPS BATTALION RUN By PFC Carreon

It was a great experience to run in Baumholder, during the Battalion

run with my battle buddies from our Detachment, as well as those

from Headquarters. One of the more motivating experiences of the

run was carrying the Bravo Guidon. Being in front of the formation

and behind the commander was thrilling because I had to keep my

pace and not give up, and to not go too far ahead of the formation.

Even though the trip was long, once we got there everyone was

awake and ready to roll and performed better than many other units

who also participated in the run. One of my favorite parts was eating

breakfast because it was much better than usual due to it being well

deserved.

Overall the Battalion run at Baumholder was a good trip, a nice ex-

perience, and a great opportunity.

In my opinion the class was very productive and portrayed a positive in-

fluence on the future of the Army and outside world as a whole.

We had both theoretical and practical examples and exercises that had

us work as a team to build cooperation and familiarization with the sub-

ject that was being taught. The instructors were dedicated and took true

passion in the subject, which made the class more interesting, and

learning at an easier and faster rate, while also showing us easy and

useful ways that are not normally taught in the class.

The first 2 days we had training in the classroom. It was all theoretical

material about how to treat a casualty during different stages: Care un-

der fire, tactical field care, and tactical evacuation care. During day 3 we

had actual practice time, when instructors organized practice lanes with

improvised casualties. Our last day was qualification. During that time

we were divided into teams of four. Instructors did their best to create a

close-to-combat environment, where we actually had to show not only

our knowledge from the course, but also our combat skills.
