Surah An Naziat (Ayah 12-14)

!

The word كرة means return. The word خاسرة means no hope. Who said this? The disbelievers.

This is the statement of the disbeliever when they are saying that it is far away that Allah سبحانه وتعالى will raise them and bring them back after they became dust. They are ignorant about the ability of Allah They are exceeding their boundaries.

The Quraysh said that they will be losers if they return back after they have been dead ( قالت قريش لئن أحيانا The disbelievers are denying the resurrection but they are also saying that if there is .(اهلل بعد أن نموت لنخسرنa 1% chance that it will happen, then they will be among the losers.

There is proof for the day of judgement and the believers are taking a precaution and preparing for it. But there is no proof that there is no resurrection- so the one who does not prepare for it will really be a loser. Disbelief is a utter and complete loss.

These are different explanations for the ayah, but both can be taken.

!

The word زجرة means a great shout صيحة عظيمة. Its like a strong, severe sound, as if scolding.

It is the second blow into the trumpet- it is stronger than the first. Everybody since the time of Adam عليه .will be resurrected. After the first blow of the trumpet only those who are alive will die السالم

The disbelievers are denying the day of judgement, but it will come in a single blow- it is not difficult for Allah

Allah سبحانه وتعالى , makes it clear that the matter of resurrection is very easy for Him (بيان سهولة األمر).

It is be blown into the trumpet He did not mention whether it is first or second- shows Shaikh Saa’di did not go into too much detail. The next ayah elaborates on this.

The word انما shows ‘it is only’.

It is a command from Allah (إنما هي أمر من اهلل) and then Israfeel will blow into the trumpet. This is the second blow into the trumpet (النفخة الثانية) and then everybody will be resurrected. Earlier the second blow was referred to as رادفة. This ayah gives us another description of the second blow- .the second blow will follow the first ,سبحانه وتعالى This means that with a single command from Allah .

We need to put this ayah together with the next ayah to get a better understanding.

! This ayah shows that the previous ayah was referring to the second blow because everybody will be resurrected after it. In ayah 12 and 13, they are denying the resurrection. In the next two ayat, Allah سبحانه وتعالى responds to them- What will happen to them?

The هم refers to everybody.

The word ساهرة means a plain white land. It is also called the land of gathering. This is on the day of judgement- there will only be a flat, plain white land where everybody is visible. It also has a meaning of a land from which growth is quick. Everybody will be quickly resurrected from the earth on the day of judgement and they will be visible.

The root word سهر means to stay up late night; lack of sleep. It also refers to the moon- as if it is staying up all night. This is only the meaning in the language. Allah knows best the complete meanings of His words in the Qur’an.

All of the creation (الخالئق كلهم) will be visible on the earth (على وجه األرض) They will all be awake and standing ( قيام ينظرون) Allah سبحانه وتعالى will gather them and judge between them with justice and recompense them (فيجمعهم اهلل .(ويقضي بينهم بحكمه العدل ويجازيهم

This shows that nobody will sleep on the day of judgement- this may be the connection with literal meaning. Even if they are tired, they will not sleep. They will be standing and waiting for Allah سبحانه .to recompense them وتعالى

Ihsaan through the Quran- 18th May 2015- 29th Rajab 1436

It is a single command from Allah سبحانه وتعالى and then everybody will be standing and looking (امر من اهلل .( فإذا الناس قيام ينظرونHe commands Israfeel to blow into the horn- this is second blow into the trumpet. (هو يأمر إسرافيل فينفخ نفخة .(البعثWith just one blow, the first and the last of the people will be standing in between the hands of Allah .(فإذا االولون واآلخرون قيام بني يدي اهلل تعالى ينظرون) and they will be looking سبحانه وتعالى

The disbelievers are questioning how they can be resurrected and Allah سبحانه وتعالى responds to them by telling them that it is a single shout- it is easy for Him.

! Now in life, Allah سبحانه وتعالى creates everybody individually and He responds to each one individually- every command of Allah سبحانه وتعالى is all just a blink of an eye- it is easy for Him.

! The command for the day of judgement is just a blink of an eye or even closer than that- its not difficult on Allah سبحانه وتعالى. We need to deal with Allah سبحانه وتعالى with certain belief that He is the One who is so powerful and All-Able. We see how the life changes in the blink of an eye- a town is turned upside down, an earthquake comes, death comes. Even on the day of judgement, with a single blink of an eye, everybody will be standing and looking, waiting for the recompense. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى give us the well-being and protect us all. Ameen.

Muhajid said that it will be a single shout. Ibrahim At-Taymi said regarding these ayat that it is the most severe time when Allah سبحانه وتعالى will be angry on the creation (أشد ما يكون الرب غضبا على خلقه). Even the messengers on the day of judgement will say Allah سبحانه وتعالى is most angry on this day- He has never been angry and Hasan al basri said that this ayah means a shout out of anger (زجرة من الغضب).

The anger of people can be unjust and out of desire. But the anger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى is perfect and full of wisdom, justice. It is suitable and praise-worthy. This is the place of the anger.

Ibn Abbas said it is the whole land.(األرض كلها). The sahaba and the tabi’ee explained about this ayah- it is the surface of the earth.

Everybody will be apparent. The people will be standing , all visible, standing and looking.

Ibn Kathir (ابن كثير)

And Our Commandment is but one, as the twinkling of an eye. (Surah Al-Qamar 54:50)

And to Allah belongs the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And the matter of the Hour is not but as a

twinkling of the eye, or even nearer. Truly! Allah is Able to do all things. (Surah An Nahl 16:77)

Ihsaan through the Quran- 18th May 2015- 29th Rajab 1436

Muhajid said, the people were in the lowest place, under the earth and then after the second blow they came up and became apparent.( كانوا بأسفلها فاخرجوا الى أعالها ). He said (الساهرة) is a flat surface (األرض .All the people will be on a flat land, standing and looking .(املستويSaul ibn said that all the people will be on a plain white land like a flat bread.( ارض بيضاء خاليا كالخبز نقى)

Notice that Ibn Kathir explained this ayah with what others said about it. Now he explains it with other ayat from the Qur’an

! The earth and heavens will be changed on the day of judgement- we are not familiar with it at all, completely white. Then all the people who were under the groundd will come out to Allah- the One, the Irresistable. In life we need to turn to Him for everything, on day of judgement by force we will all turn to Him.

! Now the earth is not بارزة, it's not flat but on day of judgement, everything will perish- even the mountains. There will be nothing except a plain white land. This also shows that the mountains are something extra- they are not a part of the earth.

This white flat land is where the people are visible. No sins are committed on that land and no blood is spilled No crime will be committed on the day of judgement- there is only recompense.

Now on the earth sins are committed and blood is spilled. This land will change to a plain white land where no sins are committed. Its not possible to commit a crime on that day- only recompense on that day.

Notice that the tafsir of Shaikh Saa’di is the cream of what Ibn Kathir mentioned in his tafsir.

On the Day when the earth will be changed to another earth and so will be the heavens, and they (all

creatures) will appear before Allah, the One, the Irresistible. (Surah Ibrahim 14:48)

And (remember) the Day We shall cause the mountains to pass away (like clouds of dust), and you will see

the earth as a levelled plain, and we shall gather them all together so as to leave not one of them behind. (Surah Al Kahf 18:47)

The word كرة in the Quran

And those who followed will say: "If only we had one more chance to return (to the worldly life), we would disown (declare ourselves as innocent from) them as they have disowned (declared themselves as innocent

from) us." Thus Allah will show them their deeds as regrets for them. And they will never get out of the Fire . (Surah Al Baqarah 2:167)

... Ayah 12-ٌةَرساِ خَ ... Notice that the tafsir of Shaikh Saa’di is the

Ihsaan through the Quran- 18th May 2015- 29th Rajab 1436

The disbelieving followers will say this on the day of judgement. In the previous ayah, the leaders free themselves from their followers. So in this ayah the followers said- we will do the same thing what they did to us. This is eye-opener to those following falsehood- on day of judgement they will free themselves from each other. This is telling us the reality on the day of judgement.

!

This ayah shows the regret of those who didn't believe on the day of judgement. The shaithan and his followers will be disputing in the hellfire. They will have nobody to intercede, no loving friend.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى is showing us don't make somebody control our life- on day of judgement we will wish to come back and free ourselves of them.

!

This ayah is also about regret. In the previous ayat, the disbelievers say ‘woe to me, because of what I did in my life- I became one of those who mocked and didn't take religion seriously . If Allah guided me I would be among the muttaqeen.’ This is all regret. ‘If I return, I will among muhsineen. I wish to do so much ihsaan.’ When they see the punishment, they wish to be among the good doers.

This regret is on day of judgement. Now in life I need to believe and do ihsaan (excellence) even if people are bad to me. I don’t want to be among those who regret on the day of judgement.

! The word خاسرة is mentioned only in this surah.

! Allah سبحانه وتعالى is addressing the believers and telling them that if you follow the disbeliever, you will be from the losers.

!

(Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers!

(Surah Ash Shu’ara 26:102)

Or (lest) he should say when he sees the torment: "If only I had another chance (to return to the world) then I

should indeed be among the Muhsinun (Surah Az Zumar 39:58)

The word خاسر in the Quran

O you who believe! If you obey those who disbelieve, they will send you back on your heels, and you will turn

back (from Faith) as losers. (Surah Ale Imran 3:149)

Those who break Allah's Covenant after ratifying it, and sever what Allah has ordered to be joined (as regards Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism, and to practise its legal laws on the earth and also as

regards keeping good relations with kith and kin ), and do mischief on earth, it is they who are the losers. (Surah Al Baqarah 2:27)

Surah Al Asr gives us a brief definition of the losers- everybody is a loser except those who do four things- believe, do righteous deeds, recommend each other to the truth and to patience. On the other hand, in order to be successful we need to do these four things. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى makes us among the successful ones. Ameen.

This is more explanation about the second blow into the trumpet. This ayah shows us why Shaikh Saa’di emphasised about looking on the day of judgement.

! The word ساهرة is mentioned only in this surah.

The word زجرة in the Quran

By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way. (Surah As Saffat 37:2)

It will be a single Zajrah [shout (i.e. the second blowing of the Trumpet)], and behold, they will be staring!
