AWR 10.1 Proxy Setup Guide
Trusted Proxies – AWR 10.1 Proxy Setup Guide Page 1
Introduction: This guide has been tested for Advanced Web Ranking Enterprise Edition version 10.1 or above to
allow you to add proxy servers to your Advanced Web Ranking installation.
We are able to generate an AWR proxy import file for you; we will cover this using both the
automated method and the manual method to setup your proxies.
This guide also covers how to categorise your proxies and how to assign groups of proxies to specific
projects for specific geo projects.
We cover the search friendly settings for the proxies and how to improve the performance of search
queries by tweaking the default AWR settings.

Categorising proxies When you are using multiple proxies for multiple locations it is important to categorise them into
logical units or simply geographic areas. This will help you to identify which proxies you need to add
to your projects.
To start we will assume we have US and UK proxies:
12.2.1.* US Range
34.2.1.* UK Range
We will create two categories a US and a UK. We select the “Add” button from the top of the
window and then select “Add category” from the drop down menu.
We then select the proxies we would like to that category.

Select the US servers and then click “Create category”. We then enter the name for the category and
click OK.
We are now presented with a new bold label in the list. Select the + arrow on the screen to drill
down the list of proxies.
After we have drilled down and verified the US proxies are added to the category correctly we then
do the same for the UK proxies.
We are now ready to add these to our projects.

Adding proxies (and categories of proxies) to projects As mentioned earlier the reason for using geo-location proxies is to get the search ranking and
details from that location via the search engines. A common mistake is to add proxies from another
country to return a separate country’s search results. In this example we will use the TrustedProxies
website. By default the proxies added to AWR will be available to all projects. What we need to do in
our project is remove the US proxies and uncategorised proxies in order to return the correct search
results by selecting the correct proxies to use.
Select Project from the left hand navigation bar.

Select Settings from the drop down menu on the top of the project screen.
We then select “Proxy Servers” from the submenu.
What we need to do is alter the default behaviour for the application itself. To do this click on “Use
application proxy settings” we can then select the proxies we would like to assign to this project.

We then select “Use only the selected proxy servers”.
We can now select the UK proxy servers to use in the category and two additional UK proxies. We
have now completed the guide on how to add the proxies to projects.

Improving performance when using multiple proxies You can improve the performance of AWR by increasing the maximum number of connections
allowed by AWR. By default this number is 5 (including your direct connection). You can increase this
by going to the Settings menu on the left hand navigation bar and selecting Performance from the
top drop down menu. You then select General Performance Settings from the sub menu.
Select Settings from the left hand navigation menu.
Select Performance from the drop down menu.

Set the Maximum number of simultaneous connections to a higher value.
The recommended settings are your maximum number of proxies +1 (dependant on internet
connection speed, bandwidth and throughput):
If you have 10 proxies then set the Maximum number of simultaneous connections to 11.
If you have 20 proxies then set the Maximum number of simultaneous connections to 21.
If you have over 99 proxies then it is recommended you limit the number to or fewer than 99
(maximum number of simultaneous connections).

Frequently asked questions
Can I add additional proxies to categories after I purchase them? Yes you can add additional proxy servers to your categories by clicking on the category and selecting
the “edit” button above the list of proxies. You can either carry out an additional manual proxy
addition or ask us for a new import file for your proxies. If you ask for a new import file; the proxies
which are already categorised will remain categorised and the new proxies will be added to the
default category ready to be added to other categories.
If I add new proxies to a category do I need to update the project to reflect
that? As long as you have selected a category of proxies in the project; you do not need to update the
project. As long as the proxies show up within the correct category in the proxy manager they will be
dynamically updated for use within the project.
I need to add different regions of US proxies held in different states, how do
I do this? Similar to the US and UK categories, instead type in the name of the state instead of the country
name, you can then select the states to add to each individual project.
