in the world of television. Here’s a tribute,with gratitude, to a number of prominentcontributors.

Burt Reynolds: This icon’s career startedin television on such shows as “Gun-smoke” and “Dan August” -- and he wouldreturn later in “B.L. Stryker” and “Evening

Shade.”Anthony Bourdain: Many were shocked

by the sudden passing of the food andtravel connoisseur who was hosting theCNN series “Parts Unknown.”

Charlotte Rae: Thanks to this veteran ac-tress, Mrs. Garrett of “The Facts of Life”will remain beloved forever.

John Mahoney: While he also did muchstage and movie work, the portrayer of“Frasier’s” father will be widely remem-bered for that role.

David Ogden Stiers: This excellent actorfilled a “M*A*S*H” opening ideally asever-stuffy Major Charles Winchester.

Harry Anderson: The sly humor andsleight-of-hand of this comic actor in-formed “Night Court” and “Dave’sWorld.”

Ken Berry: This ever-likable veteran of“F Troop,” “Mayberry R.F.D.” and“Mama’s Family” had song-and-danceroots.

Nanette Fabray: This ever-sunny actress’TV career stretched from “Caesar’s Hour”to the original “One Day at a Time.”

Jerry Van Dyke: From “My Mother theCar” to “Coach” and his brother Dick’s sit-com, this amiable performer made his ownmark.

Bill Daily: The likable actor served “IDream of Jeannie” and “The Bob NewhartShow” well.

Clint Walker: One of TV’s earliest West-ern stars in “Cheyenne” went on to becomeone of “The Dirty Dozen” in movies.

Dorothy Malone: This Oscar-winningtalent became the center of the TV versionof “Peyton Place.”

Robin Leach: The “champagne wishesand caviar dreams” of this personality lethim showcase “Lifestyles of the Rich andFamous.”

Roy Clark: The country-music star’sfolksy persona made him perfect to co-hostthe comedy-variety series “Hee Haw.”

Steven Bochco: Such acclaimed dramaseries as “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law”and “NYPD Blue” were devised by thishighly revered writer-producer.

Paul Junger Witt: Memorable TV proj-ects including “The Golden Girls,” “Soap,”“The Partridge Family” and “Brian’sSong” came from this producer’s skills.

Craig Zadan: With longtime colleagueNeil Meron, this producer gave TV liveproductions of such musicals as “TheSound of Music,” “Hairspray” and thisyear’s concert take on “Jesus Christ Super-star.”

Neil Simon: The playwright was thesource of series versions of “The Odd Cou-ple” and “Barefoot in the Park.”

Patrick Williams: Much of TV’s best-known music (“The Mary Tyler MooreShow,” “The Bob Newhart Show”) camefrom this composer.
