Parents

need real

life solutions

for real life

parenting

issues.

We don’t

sugarcoat it,

and that’s

the

difference!”

It’s time to know

more about

parenting than you

think you do. It’s

time to get the real

facts on how to use

discipline that really

works. It’s time to

recapture your real

voice and stop

stressful yelling at

your kids about every

situation. It’s time to

say what you mean

and get the out-

comes from your

children you desire.

After all, you are the

parent. You are the

center-of-influence in

the home. Right?

If you are like most

parents raising

toddlers and teens,

they come with a bag

of daily challenges.

As soon as one issue

is solved, another

pops up. It seems to

be an unending

battle, and the word

frazzeled is the

personfication of the

stress that rules your

daily parenting life.

So what’s a parent to

do? Get help!

Preparing parents, and their children, for life-long success.

Today’s children have a lot information about many things,

both healthy and unhealthy, at their disposal. This is

exactly why parents need to hear from other parents, and

from professionals in service to families just like you, who

are dealing with a myraid of parenting concerns, so they

may keep abreast of issues, methods, and solutions to

raise healthy children and families.

It’s not about being a super mom or super dad. The focus

here is on raising happy, healthy, educationally-prepared

children into successful adulthood. And, don’t try to do it

alone. The adage, “It takes a village to raise a child,” is

still relevant for 21st century parents and children.

We encourage neighbors, communities, and cities to invest in and establish parenting support groups. It doesn’t have

to be fancy or cost a lot of money. Support groups can

meet at community libraries, your home, schools, or

churches, and yes, even in the employee lounge or

lunchroom.

Family management organizations like IPI, who offer this

service throughout Indiana, can help you set up and

manage your group, train group leaders, and provide you

with a step-by-step manual to ensure your group’s success

– long-term. If your community is not yet ready for its own

group, IPI will come to you and facilitate groups for you.

Perhaps, an important first step is to learn more about the benefits and impact of a parent support group. Call 219-

Dads Behaving Dadly

I heard a speaker recently tell a story about a pack of

young elephants. These young elephants were born into

families of both male and female elephants. The

townspeople decided it was just too costly to keep all of

the big adult male elephants, so they removed them to

another location, leaving the female elephants and the

young elephants in the compound together. As the young

elephants began to grow, they changed markedly and

began taking on aggressive behaviors that caused havoc

within the pack, sorely disrupting the safety of the entire pack of elephants and threatening the safety of the

villagers as well.

The village elders tried a myraid of solutions, but to no

avail. One village leader pointed out to the others that

this problem never existed among the younger elephants

when the adult male elephants were part of the pack.

Hearing this, the villagers decided to return the male

elephants back to the pack. Upon the re-arrival of these

huge, mighty male elephants, with their mighty roar and

commanding presence, all in the pack and village felt

safer. Soon the young wayward elephants stepped back

in line, stopped their aggressive behaviors, and followed

the guiding lead of the great male elephants.

Reduce Out-of-School Suspensions School suspensions as a behavior modification tool are no longer working. Rather, they perpetuate increased

incidents and increased absences. In fact, time away

from school only exacerbates the problems; it does not

fix them and students get pushed further and further

behind.

SHYNE provides a suspension alternative that

addresses the causes behind a student’s

infraction(s) while keeping the student in school.

SHYNE is a restorative parenting education program

formulated from data gathered first hand on the issues

that lead youth to lose interest in their education, to disconnect from their families, and to their ultimate escape

through antisocial behaviors. SHYNE utilizes both

scientific, evidence-based curricula (specifically, programs

like Strengthening Families® and the Nurturing Parenting

Program®) and strategies that facilitate the learning of

parents and youth from diverse social, economic, cultural,

and educational experiences. Best practices include group-

based instruction, face-to-face encounters, and access to

community-based continuum of services.

IPI provides solutions to parents, schools, and

communities. We have 12 years’ experience in this field,

and a proven history of success with our programming.
