Automatization: Automation process.

BY: ADRIANA LEYVA & RAMÓN LUCERO.

What is the meaning of automatization?

The term comes from the Greek word "auto" and automation means execution by means of a process, in which matter, information or energy is changed or transformed.

It is a wide variety of systems or processes; where is transferred production to a set of technological elements that operate with minimal or no human intervention.

An automated system consists of two main parts:

Part of command

The operative part is the part that acts directly on the machine. They are the elements that make the machine move and perform the desired operation. The elements that form the operational part are the operators of machines like engines, cylinders, compressors and sensors and photodiodes, limit switches, etc.

Operational part:

The Part of Control is in the habit of being a programmable automation (programmed technology), though even it does little well there were in use electromagnetic relays, electronic cards or logical pneumatic modules (wired up technology). In a system of manufacture automated the programmable automation is in the center of the system.

Objectives of the automation

Improve the productivity of the company, reducing production costs and improving the quality of the product.

Improving the working conditions of staff, eliminating the drudgery and increasing security.

Can control normally impossible intellectual or manual operations. Improve the availability of commodities, and can provide the necessary

quantities at the right time.

Simplify maintenance in such a way that the operator does not require great knowledge for the handling of the production process.

Integrated management and production.

Automation and the industry.Nowadays, tons of industries have automated processes, at least in some

point. A good example of it is the communication industry, because now

the billing, transmission and even dialing is totally automated.

This technology include:

Part processing machinery and tool.

Automated montage machinery.

Industrial robots.

Self storage and handling of materials.

Automated quality inspector.

Data recollection of the process.

Advantages Increased throughput or

productivity.

Improved quality or increased predictability of quality.

Improved robustness (consistency), of processes or product.

Increased consistency of output.

Reduced direct human labor costs and expenses.

Disadvantages Causing unemployment and poverty by replacing

human labor.

Security Threats/Vulnerability: An automated system may have a limited level of intelligence, and is therefore more susceptible to committing errors outside of its immediate scope of knowledge (e.g., it is typically unable to apply the rules of simple logic to general propositions).

Unpredictable/excessive development costs: The research and development cost of automating a process may exceed the cost saved by the automation itself.

High initial cost: The automation of a new product or plant typically requires a very large initial investment in comparison with the unit cost of the product, although the cost of automation may be spread among many products and over time.
