WHAT IS AUTISM? Autism is known as a complex developmental disability. Result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function, affecting development of the person's communication and social interaction skills.

How do we know that someone has it?

1. Communication/Language

2. Social Interaction

3. Behaviors

4. Sensory and movement disorders

5. Resistance to change (predictability)

6. Intellectual functioning

Causes Genetics (heredity) Metabolic or neurological factors, Certain types of infections, and Problems occurring at birth.

What can we do (as a parent, teacher and policy maker) to support him/her?

Provide structure and safety Find nonverbal ways to connect Create a personalized autism treatment plan Find help and support Special education services
