The beautiful township of Portland, located on Victoria’s south west coastline, is steeped in history. It was the first permanent European settlement and is recognised as Victoria’s birthplace.

Cruise ships can berth within the safe harbour or anchor close offshore in any weather and tender passengers ashore. a natural deep water commercial port with a safe berth or sheltered anchorage in the bay.

Only 12 hours steaming from Melbourne, cruise ships can berth inside the port at the S.L. Patterson Wharf and use it as a passenger terminal, or anchor close offshore in any weather and tender passengers to modern pontoon jetties in the harbour for disembarking. Tour coaches and shuttle buses can access either embarkation points.

Situated on the southern side of the Lee Breakwater, the S.L. Patterson Wharf is separate from the main commercial area of the port’s bulk handling operation. As one of four major commercial trading ports in Victoria, the Port of Portland handles an estimated $1.5 billion in annual trade and has all the services required to berth a cruise ship.
