  • 1. Introducing Australia!

2. AUSTRALIATODAYWhat is it like to live there now? 3. Being a Student School is mandatory in Australia until you are 15 (grade 10) Most people complete their senior studies (grade 11 and 12) Depending on your marks, you may go to university (Uni) . More popular degrees and Unis have a higher entrance mark. We do not have to pay to go to universityYET! We have a system where the government takes the fee out of your tax once you are earning enough money. Most people go to Uni near their home and dont move out. If you are from the country you usually live at college- on campus. University is very important, however Australian students usually spend less time studying and more time doing other things 4. LeisureO Most young people have part-time jobs as well as university, so the weekend is timefor chillingO To relax, people might go to the beach, play sport, go shopping, go to the movies, goout to a restaurant or just meet up with friendsO Australia has a big drinking culture, whether its a beer at lunch or going clubbinguntil 5am, alcohol is very popular amongst young people, especially students who donot have to work in the morning!O Binge drinking is a problem, and so is drink driving. In Australia there are many roadrules and taxes on alcohol to try and prevent this.O In general, it is a very expensive place to live, thats why most young people have jobsBUT its worth it! 5. MulticulturalismO Part of Australias identity is that it is a multicultural countryO There are populations of many different nationalities in Australia, for example if you were to come as a tourist we wouldnt be able to tell unless you had a map out.O There are over 300 000 people belonging to the Vietnamese culture who live in Australia (a lot considering we only have 20 million people)O We get all the great food! Vietnamese, Indian, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Greek, Mexican and Turkish are very popular cuisines 6. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. 45. New Years Eve!!O New Years Eve is celebrated by spending time with friends and family. Many people go to social gatherings to eat, drink and ring in the New Year with a lot of noise and fire works.O One of the great traditions is making a new years resolution. This is a meaningful, but still achievable change you can make in your life or yourself. This tradition recognizes that a New Year is a new and fresh start.
