Our StudentsThrough the admission process, Augusta Prep seeks motivated students who will benefit from challenging academics, participate in extracurricular activities and contribute to a positive learning environment for others. The school’s advisory system ensures that every student has a faculty or staff member who will monitor academic and personal progress and assist the administration in working with each student. The Upper School Student Council works to strengthen the relationship among students, faculty and staff and to enhance school spirit through many activities.

The Upper School is a mix of new and returning students, some of whom have attended Prep since their lower school years. Athletic camps held during the summer months and class trips at the start of the school year are two of the many ways new students are successfully transitioned into the Upper School.

Academic RecognitionThe Augusta Prep Upper School is a proud member of the Cum Laude Society, one of only eight schools in Georgia, and the only school in the region to have achieved this distinction. The secondary school equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude recognizes superior academic achievement of members of the senior class.

Induction into the National Honor Society takes place as early as the spring of sophomore year. Membership is based on academic achievement, service, leadership, and character.

Augusta Prep students consistently score higher than the national public and private school averages on all standardized tests, including PSAT, SAT, PLAN, ACT, and advanced placement testing.

Academic ProgramThe Augusta Prep Middle School, grades 5 – 8, is an exciting place! Beginning in the 5th grade, students are carefully guided through the transition from the self-contained classroom setting of the Lower School to the departmentalized structure of the Upper School.

Teachers challenge students in a stimulating, lively environment by developing classes that capture the curiosity and energy of the middle school child. Community service is an important part of the Augusta Prep Middle School experience. Students are encouraged to participate in the Prep Student Service Program, which presents students with a menu of service projects in the area.

AthleticsEmphasis is on participation, good sportsmanship and skill development. There are both A and B teams in several sports, supporting the 85%+ involvement of Middle School students in the athletic program.

Participation in middle school athletics begins on a limited basis in the 5th grade, typically with cross-country and track, while 6th – 8th grade students are eligible to participate in every sport.

Summer CampDuring the summer, Augusta Prep offers academic and enrichment programs, as well as sports camps.

Academic ProgramThe preschool and elementary years at Augusta Prep are a time when our caring faculty helps young children become confident learners who can face life’s challenges. Our teachers encourage children to expand their knowledge of their own surroundings and a diverse world filled with opportunities. Children learn to appreciate and work with those who are both similar to and different from themselves.

Smaller class sizes allow for greater accountability and the development of personal responsibility and initiative that will carry children throughout their growing years and beyond.

Lower School SpanishAugusta Prep believes in introducing students to the world around them. Exposure to the Spanish language

begins in Preschool. As students progress through the program, classes teach not only the spoken language, but also the culture of the Hispanic world.

Fine ArtsThe Lower School encourages students to reach the highest level of their individual creative ability. Whether in art class studying the basic techniques of drawing or in music class exploring different musical styles or rehearsing a play, our students learn by doing.

Physical EducationThe Augusta Preparatory Day School physical education program is a part of the total educational process. Trained specialists in the field staff the program; the curriculum provides vigorous physical activities and sound instruction in basic motor and sport-specific skills. Activities are presented in such a manner that students have the opportunity to develop skills and attitudes, which will have a lasting positive influence on their adult life.

100 Book ClubThroughout the Lower School program, students are encouraged to explore new opportunities. One example is the challenge to join our 100 Book Club. This reading program encourages students to read books of their choice, in an effort to complete 1,000 pages times the student’s grade level.

CommunityA strong sense of community is developed through cooperative learning experiences, field trips, theatrical performances, assemblies and special programs. There are numerous opportunities that allow Prep parents to share in their child’s learning experience.

Getting StartedThe goal of the Admission Office is to provide you and your family with the opportunity to become better acquainted with our mission, core beliefs, faculty, programs, and facilities. Our teachers, coaches, parent volunteers, students, and administrators are available to help you in any way possible! We welcome your phone calls and invite you to learn more about Prep:

• Schedule a tour of Augusta Prep any school day. • Attend an Information Session, held during school hours. • Make plans to attend a fine arts production or sporting event. Please call the Admission Office for a complimentary pass.

We encourage you to start the application process now by completing the following checklist:

� Submit a completed application, available upon request or online, with $75 application fee.

� Submit a graded writing sample for grades 5 – 12. � Deliver transcript release and teacher

recommendation forms, available upon request or online, to your child’s current school.

� Schedule a school visit for your son or daughter. � Call the Admission Office to schedule a testing

Interviews and VisitsDaily Tours Parents should contact the Admission Office to schedule a campus visit, tour and interview. Applicants to grades 3 through 12 spend a day on campus meeting students and teachers and experiencing a typical day at Augusta Prep. A student host will be assigned to each visitor.

Admission testing Admission assessment for all grades is performed on an individual basis. The Admission Office contacts all applicant families to schedule testing.

Admission PoliciesAugusta Preparatory Day School seeks students from all racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds who have a strong desire to benefit from a challenging academic program in a safe, nurturing school environment. Admission to Augusta Prep is determined by a faculty committee that evaluates each applicant in a thorough and impartial manner. The committee reviews the following criteria:

• personal qualities and individual talents • academic record of the student • teacher recommendation(s) from current school• results of recent standardized testing at current school• results of admission testing and interviews

When the number of applications exceeds the enrollment in a given class, some priority is given to siblings and legacies.

Notification of AcceptanceAfter the re-enrollment of current students in February, enrollment is open to the public. Applicant files are processed, and families will be notified of admission committee recommendations in a timely manner.

Financial aidAugusta Preparatory Day School is committed to enrolling a diverse student population. Financial aid is awarded to families based on need as determined by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton, NJ and Augusta Prep’s financial resources. Families should apply online at:

www.nais.org/financialaid/sss. The deadline for submission to the School and Student Service is February 15. Notification of awards will be made in early April.

Malone Scholarship ProgramThe Malone Scholarship Program rewards academically gifted and talented middle and upper school students, grades seven through twelve, who meet the following criteria:

• Superior academic ability and motivation, evidenced by standardized test scores and high class ranking (top 5%)• Demonstrated financial need

A Malone Scholarship covers up to the full cost of tuition for each year the student meets expected academic standards, demonstrates continued good citizenship and character, and continues to qualify for need-based financial aid.

Goizueta Scholarship ProgramThe Goizueta Foundation Scholarship provides scholarships to qualified Latino students in grades 7-12. Awards are based academic talent, character, and demonstrated financial need.
