Twenty paddlers, a steersperson, and a drummer. All in one boat. All working in perfect synchronicity. The

2000-year old Chinese tradition of dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water sport in North America, and for good reason. That’s what makes dragon boat

racing the ultimate team sport!“ …no stars, no

benchwarmers.

The team is

everything.”

WHAT IS DRAGON BOAT RACING?WHAT IS DRAGON BOAT RACING?

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NASHVILLE DRAGON BOAT AND RIVER FESTIVAL

The festival combines the excitement of racing with the beauty and spectacle of Nashville’s diverse culture. In Chinese tradition, the dragon is a symbol of health and prosperity, and dragon boat racing inspires health and fitness among participants as well as spectators.

• Friendly competition in a wholesome outdoor setting.

• A physical activity that anyone can do regardless of skill level.

• A fun-filled reason for everyone in the community to come down to the riverfront.

• Children will enjoy the colorful performances and helping us welcome the auspicious “dragon” to Nashville waters.

• Families can spend the day watching the races, sampling Asian cuisine, and enjoying live multicultural performances.

• Excellent marketing, team building and employee wellness opportuni-ties in a unique, fun, family-oriented venue for business and civic groups.

Whether championship racers or complete beginners, young or old, this event offers something for everyone. Dragon boat racing is a great workout and a good time for a great cause.

So get on board and get ready for the time of your life!

TEAMWORK

We all had a fantastic day and made many new friends. The Nashville Outlaws Rugby Club came to participate and show everyone just what the game of rugby was all about: teamwork, coordination, stamina and power, combined with a sense of fun. We did what comes naturally and became rookie Grand Champions!

Tom Makakha, Nashville Rugby Club- 2008 Dragon Boat Champions

Our team, “Krollin Down the River” has had the best time participating in the Dragon Boat Races for the past two years! It’s been a truely unique way to build camaraderie outside the office- some teammates didn’t even know each other prior to the event, but left on race day as frineds. The rewarding experience is worth as much to us as the great cause we’re supporting!

Morgan Garifo, Kroll Background Screening Division

The Nashville Dragon Boat Races is one of the best events that we participate in. Not only did the the event build team spirit among Team Green members, it provided an opportunity to learn a completely new outdoor sport and challenges beyond the normal adventures we embrace. Additionally, being involved in so many community events, these races were fantastic for Nashville’s community and our beloved Cumberland River. We absolutely plan to participate in 2009’s races and have already started talking about team names and jerseys!

Laurel Creech, Lightning 100’s Team Green Director

I thought the 2008 Dragon Boat race would simply be a great way for our group to team build and give back to the community through the Cumbeland River Compact. I had no idea the sense of competition and team spirit it would engender! I was extremely proud of our group who financed all their own race fees and team shirts (for two boats!) plus natural leaders surfaced that will be our coaches in 2009.

Kelly Stewart, Nashville Hiking Meetup

If you have never expericenced a Dragon Boat Race you don’t know what you are missing. It is amazing! My team and I had so much fun; there are not enough words to express it!

Joanie Schuller, Walmart

The key element is teamwork. Teams will race along the Cumberland River inmulti-colored boats decorated with dragon heads, scaly bodies and elaborate tails. With a feverish pace set by the drummer, the strong and powerful energyof your team will move you toward victory as the Nashville Dragon Boat Champions!

Teamwork is also the key to conservation and the enhancement of our water. There is plenty of good, clean water in the Cumberland River to enjoy the festive event that is Dragon Boat Racing. However, as a community we must work together to find ways so that it is always that way. We must work to conserve our water and enhance its quality in ways that promote a healthy environment and a productive local economy. Thank you in advance to all sponsors, donors and teams who will be a part of this event. Without you, this event would not be flourishing.
