Prizes are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. With each move, families face challenges such as choosing a school, transferring records, immunizations and age requirements, graduation requirements, sports, and extracurricular activities. PCS moves, transitions such as moving from elementary school to middle school to high school may create stress for military connected students. This affects students not only mentally, but also academically.

As the School Liaison Officer, I am here to help you navigate through the 2nd largest school district in the United States, the Los Angeles Unified School District and 79 other different school districts within 4,084 square mile including of 2,283 schools, and 1,539,260 students that speak 92 different languages. School Age Care 2018 Summer Camp (Ages 5-12)Before and After School Programs provide age-appropriate child care with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program.

Open Recreation Program (Ages 9-18)This program provides recreational options for all dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team building. $30 per year

Transportation Program (Ages 9-18)Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week*Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately.

Congressional Award Opportunities The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14 to 23 year-olds. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Certificates & Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Keystone Fund Raising Bake SaleThursday, August 9, 4 p.m.- 6 p.m.Keystone member ages 13-18 years of age will be having a bake sale at Youth Programs to raise money to attend the annual Boys & Girls Club of America Keystone Conference. Keystone is a youth based leadership club focused on academic success, teen leadership, and community service. The teens will also be discussing the teen initiative for the year.

Back to School Fire Pit Party (Ages 9-18)Friday, August 24, 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.Bring a non-member friend to show off your Youth Programs and all the great things offered here. The practice and employment of these techniques is governed by the Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. The program is “Family Style” meaning that it is open to males and females, children and adults, from 6 years old and up. New students are accepted continuously. Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34-144 guidelines.

These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines. Please contact the FCC office for further details.
