He comes to us from Columbine Christian School in Durango and has been the Summer Camp director at Glacier View Ranch for the last 3 summers. Jim says he is passionate about hanging out with young people and sees the classroom as a great opportunity to mentor students.

Our Mission: We serve and glorify God through Christ-centered worship, individual spiritual growth, youth involvement, and community interaction.

Mid-Year Moving Forward

Last January we reviewed seven (7) goals or initiatives in areas that would be at the front of pastoral focus here at Campion. We prayed over and discussed them; since then, individuals and teams have been faithfully investing in mov-ing them forward. Halfway through this year, I am thankful to God for what has been accomplished. Here is an update along with additional steps to be taken this fall.

Website. Certainly you have seen the difference. Under the leadership of Jerry Ellquist a team of others have helped make this face of the church more appealing and helpful.

Building Addition. Our Major Improvements Committee is preparing to give a recommendation to the board which will review and forward to the church in early fall a question to move forward with an addition to our church. Storage, Sabbath School rooms, and office space are just a few of the areas of need.

Associate Pastor. Pastor Nestor Soriano and his wife, Katherine, will be here in Loveland the first week of Au-gust. They will be introduced formally on August 8, and Pastor Soriano will preach on August 15.

Worship Service. In January we made some adjustments to our worship service and have continued to look at the flow and how the time can be best used for worship. A worship team has been formed and Pastor Nestor will join Yves Clouzet in working together to make each Sabbath a connecting and growing experience.

Evangelism/Outreach. Each Sabbath we have given 5 minutes to looking at ways individuals or groups are reach-ing out – being “All About People.” Our church board voted this year to spend 1/3 of its time discussing and planning evangelism. In order to do it most effectively the formation of an evangelism council, that plans and strategizes our effort to spread the gospel, was voted. To focus the time given on the board and the work of the evangelism council a definition for evangelism was voted: Understanding that all we do at Campion Church is tied to evangelism, the purpose of the term “evangelism” is that work or effort that intentionally focuses on taking the advent message to the world and the equipping of the membership for the same.

Process: Administrative, Vision, Goals and Initiatives. Early this fall the board will review and decide how we at Campion do process and how we can create goals and initiatives for each year.

Elder Team Leadership. Our team of elders has been meeting and reviewing how they are to best serve Jesus at Campion. While leading out in some areas of member care and outreach, they have also been discussing how they could be organized if each elder were to focus on a specific area of church ministry (administration, wor-ship, member care, outreach, and discipleship). The goal is to work through the division of responsibilities this fall.

God has blessed us here at Campion, the best church west of the Rockies (just think that one through).

Halfway through 2015 we have much to be thankful for and moving forward we want to continue to raise the bar in being the best witness for the kingdom of Jesus that we can be in our community. Let’s move forward.

Would you welcome the Gomez family

Ruben’s long days at CBS Radio station in the Washington DC area were taking a toll on their family. So, the family started to pray, which was something like this

“Would You close the door for Ruben at CBS and open new doors for Ruben in regards to employment.”

In 2014, life started to change for the Gomez family after their prayer was answered. Within a few months Ruben

had accepted a position with the Hope Channel in the DC area. Then another door opened when the call came from the Voice of Prophecy.

Ruben, who had graduated with a degree in communica-tion and journalism, loved being in charge of the audio system at his church in Maryland. He often thought, “I would love to do this for my career. God is amazing; He has placed Ruben in the career that he prayed and wished for. Ruben is responsible for the audio/recording studio for the Voice of Prophecy.

Ruben, whose mother was in the US Navy, was born in Puerto Rico. While living in North Carolina, he attended Seventh-day Adventist schools from first grade through 10th grade. At the end of his 10th grade the family moved to Pensacola, Florida, where there were no Adventist schools. He graduated from a Baptist school.

As soon as Ruben and Miranda arrived in the Loveland area they knew they would love it here. They live in John-stown with their two daughters. In 2016 Miranda and Ru-ben will celebrate their ten-year wedding anniversary. The family loves to spend time in the mountains, where Ruben can capture God’s creation through the lenses of his cam-era. His other hobbies include astronomy and technology.

Miranda feels blessed to take part in the “God’s Gift’s Playgroup” at Campion with daughters Annalise and Ga-briella. Miranda grew up in the Columbus, Ohio. In her spare time she works toward achieving her degree in edu-cation. She enjoys teaching, history, reading, crafts, music, volunteering, and mission trips.

We welcome William Anderson

Although William Anderson has recently joined our congregation, moving here so he can live with and help with his mother, Florence Anderson, he has lived in this area about ten years. He says that although he is really more used to small churches, transferring his membership now from Paonia, Colorado, he is enjoying the Campion Church.

William, who also goes by “Bill,” has a daughter in Castle Rock, Colorado, and sisters here in this area. Growing up Bill lived in Nevada, New Mexico, and California, moving to Colorado in 1968. Although he is not currently working, he has been employed in a number of interesting occupations—he is easy to talk to; ask him about some of his inter-esting jobs.

We’ve been having a lot of fun this summer at God’s Gifts! So far the group has visited some splash

pads, enjoyed picnics, participated in Vacation Bible School, had an ice cream social, and made fun

crafts for the 4th of July. And that’s not everything! Join us for some more fun in August when we visit

Another Successful

Vacation Bible School Phyllis Zimmerman

Campion Vacation Bible

School is not only the event that

inaugurates summer, but it is a

time where kids can enjoy fun

games, healthy food, quality crafts,

and lasting lessons of eternity. This

year we had a wonderful time with

record numbers of children! Each

day the doors opened to 70-75 kids

came to learn eternal lessons from

the life of David. The day started

with a lively song service coordi-

nated by Fawn Graybill and led out

by Yves and Melissa Clouzet , ac-

companied by Amelia Zimmerman,

Ashley Herber , Sarah McRoberts,

and Madi Jordan. The kids sang

and learned their memory verse,

“This is the day that the Lord has

made. I will rejoice and be glad in

it!” (Ps. 118:24).

From music the kids moved

through the various stations based

on the day’s theme. Story time was

filled with interactive telling of the

life of David and his friendship with

God. Sandy Eickmann, Ardis Sten-

bakken, Pastor Goetz, and Dick

Stenbakken with help from Kendra

Eickmann and Sarah McRoberts

illustrated the theme of God’s love,

protection, and friendship each

day.

Crafts were taught by Janet

Honstein; she is a veteran of VBS

with over 40 years of experience

and it showed as she led the kids

through making bird feeders to

shrink art. She had help from Lu-

cille Trujillo and teen helpers Paige

and Maddie. With the collabora-

tion of leaders, group leaders and

Janet over 400 art pieces were cre-

ated throughout the week.

On the south side of the

church Amelia Zimmerman and

Ashley Herber creatively designed

and implemented the games, as-

sisted by Judah Hammond and Ed-

anointing to fighting giants, the

theme of the day was reinforced

through active play. There was lots

of running, jumping, laughing, and

learning in the games area with the

hopes of getting kids moving and

staying active.

Our planning committee set

out to make snack time an interac-

tive, educational experience for

our VBS participants and the

church Health Ministry met the

challenge with flying colors. Each

day the team of Ruth Pierson, Thel-

ma Huffman , Kathy Smith, Shirley

Turner, Rita Lauterbach, Jody Paul-

ine, and Cody Davidson Jahn pre-

sented hands-on food projects for

the kids to make, sprinkled with a

little nutritional fact to top it

off. From apple cars to rice cake

faces the food was fun and nutri-

tious.

As you can see, VBS was a

whole lot of fun and would not

have been possible without the

team of volunteers. There is need

for special recognition for all our

teen leadership that we see con-

sistently each year with VBS. With

an average of 70 kids, group man-

agement required two to three

leaders to manage each group.

Four groups arranged in colors

were led by a fantastic group of

teens and a few adults. Thank you

to the following group leaders who

played a valuable part in making

VBS 2015 possible: Kristie Smith,

Marie Geiger, Livi Geiger, Kari Gei-

ger, Naomi Boonstra, Bayli Graybill,

Michele Hebard, Sydney and Me-

gan Michalenko, Madi Jordan, Julia

Barber, Nolan Eickmann, Ashley

Halvorson, and Judah Hammond

and Eddie Camacho with games.

We are so grateful in a

church that is “All about people”

that we are able to provide a week

of spiritual learning and fun fellow-

ship for our little people. VBS is

and was not only the starting point

for summer but the spring board

for eternity. Let’s continue to pray

for this ministry and the impact it

has on the lives of each child who

attended.

Church Library Closure: The church library closed on Mon-

day, July 20 for an indefinite time. Pastor Nestor needs an

office as he comes on board so he will be using the li-

brary. He will use the library until we can come up with

additional building space. Plans are to have some books

on shelves that can be checked out during the time that

the library is closed. The categories of books will be True

Stories, Mission Stories, Bible Characters, Sabbath, Prayer

and Recently Acquired Books. We are hoping to have a

designated place for the shelves by August 8. Meanwhile,

if you have books checked out, please bring them to the

church and place them in a box that will be in the back of

the Hospitality Desk by the coat rack. There will also be a

box available for book donations. Both of these boxes will

be clearly marked. Sadie will continue to go through the

donated books and catalog the ones that will be saved for

the library and the others will be placed on the book rack

for people to take for free. If you have any questions,

please contact Sadie Torrez at 970-372-7266.

Bringing Young Adults Together By Joyelle Worley

Research on Adventist Mil-lennials in 2013 concluded when teens grow into adults, they espe-cially need supportive, intergenera-tional relationships with church members to strengthen their rela-tion with the Adventist Church overall (from the Barna Group’s Young Adult Study results on the Adventist Young Adult Life’s site: www.youngadultlife.com).

Glenn O’Halloran noticed how local high school graduates similarly needed a place for them on Sabbaths, so he started Connec-tions, and it continues to meet as a relaxed, young adult Sabbath School on Hankins Hall’s third floor. After working long hours, young adults, Kyle Cate and Alex Johansen, still find the time to plan for the

weekly lessons, which they present in a way to make their peers think while feeling free to be real. The smaller group size allows the meeting facilitator to tailor the time to the needs of the attendees.

The group meets at 9:40 am for fresh pancakes and then a dis-cussion on a beneficial topic ad-dressed by the friends with a bibli-cal perspective. In addition, Eric and Jenny Sigler have hosted Friday night gatherings at their home, and the group is open to service pro-jects. Campion Church members can pass on the word about this Sabbath School to those who are in their late teens/twenties, and also attend if they are interested in en-couraging these young adults. I am excited to be able to touch base with

you and share some information about new develop-

ments that will change the faces of HMS Richards

School for next year.

One face that will change is the HMS website.

We are blessed to have Ruben Gomez volunteer his

expertise and time. He came to the school board

with an exciting plan for not only a new look, but also

to provide more information with useful tools. More

information will be presented at the open house

near the beginning of school.

Another way you will notice a face lift hap-

pened July 26 at the work bee. The main focus was

to build the base and some of the structure of new

playground equipment. Volunteers helped on a vari-

ety of projects inside also.

We will also have a few new faces around as

well. As most of you know we hired a new teacher,

Kari Lange, for 1st-3rd grades. She has already been

in the classroom working. In fact, the first few days

after her move, instead of staying at home and un-

packing boxes, she was at

school working on her

classroom. She is obviously

very dedicated to have a

successful year!

I am also excited to

announce that Jerry Ellquist

has accepted the responsi-

bility of School Board Chair-

man. He has a variety of talents that will bless HMS.

He has a degree in Radiologic Technology; AA and BA

in Ag-Business; and an MBA with specialization in Ag

-business from Cal-poly, San Luis Obispo. He now

works as a Radiologic Technologist at Medical Center

of the Rockies and relief shifts at McKee.

For a number of years Jerry managed the ag-

riculture programs at Maranatha Meadows School,

Monterey Bay Academy, and 15 years managing the

greenhouses here at Campion Academy. Interesting-

ly, Jerry grew up in Ethiopia where his dad was farm

manager/industrial arts teacher and his mother a

nurse at Kuyera Adventist School. He likes to travel

and has spent several months in New Zealand. Jerry

says, “I am both excited and challenged to be able to

serve at HMS. I pray that I can be used in some way

to help extend and promote the positive Christian

education that is already so effective at HMS.” Wel-

come!

In conclusion, The Lord has blessed us individ-

ually and collectively in so many ways! We invite you

to visit our school even if you do not have children or

grandchildren enrolled here. It is the Campion

Church’s school!

Students Spend Summer in Spain From June 21 to July 30, Nate and Honali Marin and 22 Campi-on students have been at the Advent-ist college in Sagunto, a small town only a short distance from the Medi-terranean Sea. Our students traveled to other destinations in Spain, learned the culture, ate helado, and yes, even studied during the summer. Over the 4th of July they visited Barcelona where they saw the Picasso Museum and famous works by Antoni Gaudí. Other trips took them to Madrid, Va-lencia, Toledo, and Segovia. The Marin's trip allows many students to

have the experience of a lifetime, and Campion values the cultural learning they get to acquire.

Increased Enrollment for 2015-16!

Campion is happy to report that en-rollment will be increasing from last year.

Encourage any academy age student to attend Campion.

cial Aid, and Deaconess Ministries. April was a strong month for tithe giving--$83,607 which is $10,000 greater than April

2014. May Highlights:

Received combined budget of $13,116 for the month. Substantial donations for Campion Student Financial Aid, HMS Student Financial Aid

and Zambia School Travel. Tithe giving was substantially better than the previous year--$76,492

Church budget is $18,000 behind year-to-date and approximately $6,000 behind what we received last year. Action: A motion was made that we accept the Financial Report. Voted and Approved Other Finance Committee Items:

AV Equipment: Dave Oden has asked for approval to spend $3,374 on various equipment needs in the main sanctuary which includes $2000 for a mixer. The Finance Committee has approved this expense from the Media Ministry, Ac-count #4640, which has a balance of $5,573. A motion was made that the board approve this purchase.

Action: Voted and Approved.

CHIP Program: The Finance Committee made a request for approval to hold a CHIP Leadership Training Workshop at Campion. Total expenses for the event are estimated at $6,000. Finance Committee has approved expenses for the in-structor fee and airline ticket (approximately $1,400) and all other costs will be further discussed once attendance numbers are known.

Action: Voted and Approved.

Changes to On-line Giving Page: The first page now includes five items: Combined Budget, Evangelism, HMS and Campion Student Financial Aid, Building Fund and Other.

Action: No action taken.

HMS Report: Discussion: The HMS budget for the next school year is based on 60 students. Davin Ham-mond is optimistic that the student enrollment could be 65. New playground equipment is coming in and HMS needs volunteers to help set it up on Sunday, July 26. The company delivering the equipment will have someone there that can supervise for one day. HMS ended the year well and is doing well on financial issues. A new teacher was hired for the coming school. The HMS budget was approved previously. Action: No action taken. Evangelism: Discussion: What is evangelism? Pastor Goetz brought a starting definition and after some discussion, the following was agreed upon as a starting definition: “Understanding that all we do at Campion Church is tied to evangelism, the purpose of the “term” evangelism is that work or effort will intentionally focus on taking the advent message to the world and the equipping of the membership for the same.” Action: Voted and approved. Building and Work Bee Updates: Discussion: Another set of plans for the building project will be reviewed by the Major Improvements Committee and a recommendation will be brought to the board at the end of the summer. Action: No action taken. Lindsey reported that the Work Bee was successful. Further work is needed to come up with the best way to get water to all the plants. Lindsey spent $800 on plants and a total of a little over $1,000 was spent on the landscaping. Shawn Santana is looking into the lighting problems around the outside perimeter of the church. Shawn found that all the bulbs were burned out and some of the electrical fixtures need updating. A decision will have to be made on what type of bulbs to use. This item will be discussed further in August. Action: No action taken. Updating Some Ministry Titles: This item will be discussed further this fall. Nominated Positions: Discussion: The following are the HMS School Board Chairman plus board members names recommended and the following are listed below in order of recommendation: Harold Williams, Jerry Ellquist, Roger Naranjo, Robert Stacey, Corey Fortner and Tom Cleveland. It will work this way—if Harold Williams accepts the Board Chairman position than Jerry Ellquist would be asked to be the board member. If Harold does not accept, then Jerry would be asked to be board chairman. Also, as an example, Harold could accept the posi-tion of board member. The first four names are for the chairman/member—the last two would be members only. Davin made the motion that we accept this recommendation. Davin will start calling people tomorrow. Action: Voted and approved. Voice of Prophecy Weekend Program Discussion: The VOP is requesting to have a weekend program at Campion Church to be telecasted for the NAD. Shawn Boonstra will be hosting a national television live training event for churches across North America. The training event would be held at Campion Church on November 13-15, 2015. The church members would be invited to attend the weekend training event. The VOP would pay all of the expenses. A motion was made that we allow them to use the church at no cost but we would still take up an offering on Sab-bath morning. Action: Voted and Approved. Background Checks: Discussion: Background checks are required for all employees and volunteers who interact with minors. A recommendation was made that when a person fills out the application form that both schools (HMS and CA) should be checked as well as the church to avoid doing duplicate applications. The cost of the background check will be paid from the budget of the ministry served by the applicant. Action: People will be asked to do this.
