We had a very strong group - 154 nominations - of “You Caught My Eye” awardees this month. This is more than twice the number we had this same month last year. We had the follow nominations by site: • MWC (26)• MPC/MDS (40)• MHC (88).

No matter who is picked as those to be highlighted each month, I want every awardee to know that just by being recognized you are a winner. There were a number of people recognized for many different aspects of the cultural attributes that make Marklund such a special place.

The first group of people to be recognized are Devyn Doering, Kevin Gatto & Joanna Vicker. Devyn is a QIDP, Kevin is a DI and Joanna is a COTA. They received eight recognitions for the creative way they worked together to get a resident’s (Heather D.) communicator to work with “Alexa” so that she could control her lights and music. It was an amazing example of what we can do to increase the independence…the everyday life…of those we serve. They are being recognized for their compassion, creativity and teamwork.

The next person is Noah DeLaGarza. Noah is a new Parapro in the Life Skills program at the Marklund Day School – Bloomingdale. Noah received seven nominations from six different staff members. He was cited for his flexibility, the way he has built rapport with the students, his openness to his fellow staff and his attention to the safety of the students. Noah is being recognized for his attitude, accountability, and teamwork.

And last but not least is Vanessa Aguilera. Vanessa is a PSP at the Marklund Wasmond Center. She had two nominators. The first was for the way she went out of her way to help get residents ready for the doctor. She was also recognized for the way she has helped with the morning bathing schedule and her flexibility with the new PSP schedule changes. Vanessa is being recognized for her attitude, compassion and teamwork.

Thanks again to those who took the time to recognize one of your fellow staff. Each of you are to be commended as well. Marklund really has an amazing staff and each of you help me to get a small glimpse into just how amazing our staff is. As I go through the cards each month I not only notice the names of those being recognized but I also make a special note of those who make the nomination.

Again, congratulations to all but a special commendation to Devyn Doering, Kevin Gatto, Joanna Vicker, Noah DeLaGarza and Vanessa Aguilera.
