A VISIONARY APPROACH TO MAKE IN INDIA

CAPTAIN’S CABIN

For decades India was lagging far behind in port-led development than few of our major

economic competitors. There was no comprehensive plan to increase India’s merchandise exports multifold by enhancing industrial competitiveness. Then the Government envisaged Coastal Employment Zones (CEZ) under the ambitious Sagarmala project to support Make in India initiative. These zones, which would embrace industrial clusters, will require up to `8 lakh crores of industrial investment and `15,000 crores of investment in basic infrastructure.

These clusters have been proposed on the basis of suitability of ocean mode of transportation for imports of raw material or exports of finished products.

This kind of port-led development is expected to not only reduce logistics costs by optimising movement of cargo, but also positively impact competitiveness in availability of raw materials, skills, supporting infrastructure and fostering industrial agglomeration.

EXIM containers in India travel about 700 to 1,000 kilometers between

production centres and ports. Setting up of CEZs will decrease this movement substantially by facilitating port-led industrialization. A large number of multinational companies are scouting for locations that can offer low-cost labour with world-class infrastructure outside China. The government is firming up incentives that may be offered to companies that commit to creating a certain number of jobs. Under the CEZ, the main focus would also be to attract large, world-class industries that would promise to create 10,000 to 40,000 direct, skill-based jobs within a specified time.

The sunrise state of Andhra Pradesh, which is ranked 1st in Ease of Doing Business, has emerged as the front-runner for the prestigious Coastal Employment Zone.

With the vision of our Chairman Sri CV Rao and dynamic leadership of Managing Director Sri Sasidhar, today we have a world-class port with enviable infrastructure, unparalleled customer service offerings that fast-emerged as eastern gateway port to the world serving the state and nation.

What could be a better-suited location for driving Make in India initiative?

A year ago when NITI Aayog Chairman met honourbale Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, he assured a field study for setting up the zone. Visits of NITI Aayog CEO Sri Amitabh Kant followed by his high-level team to assess the locational advantages and feasibility of the long-term project, reinforce our faith in building large infrastructure ahead of times.

The availability of huge chunks of land, electricity, water and other resources at Krishnapatnam node, which is on the two major industrial corridors (Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor and Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor), makes it ideal choice for the proposed CEZ.

When the cluster specific industries come up with world-class infrastructure aiming at global markets and Exim trade with Krishnapatnam, a vibrant and thriving port next door is all set to support, in realizing the dream of Make in India.

Best wishes,

ANIL YENDLURIDirector & CEO

A beam bridge connecting the northeast states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, this engineering marvel spans the Lohit River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River, from the village of Dhola (Tinsukia District) in the south to Sadiya to the north. This s-shaped bridge is the first permanent road connection between the northern Assam and eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

The construction of the Dhola-Sadiya bridge began in 2011 by the Ministry of Road Transport along with Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd, under the public-private-partnership agreement. At 9.15 kilometers in length, it is the longest bridge in India. The bridge, which has a three-lane carriage way, will also cater to the strategic requirements of the country in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh, besides facilitating numerous hydro power projects coming up in the State, as it is the most sought-after route

PORT VISIT

Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs in Government of

India visited Krishnapatnam Port on 15 May 2017 to inaugurate Corporate affairs Facilitation centre.

Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal IAS (Retd) was earlier party Chief Whip in 16th Lok Sabha. He has been elected to the 15th and 16th Lok Sabha’s from Bikaner constituency, Rajasthan in 2009. He was awarded the Best parliamentarian Award in 2013. Shri Meghwal doesn’t use the car provided by the government while commuting to work. Instead, he uses his push-bike as a local transport mode.

The hon’ble minister’s visit started off with an aerial recce and he was enthralled by the expanse of infrastructure, scale of operations, the facilities and services provided by the port to its customers. Then Guard of Honour was given to the minister at the KSSPL grounds. Later he distributed 50 gas connections to the local villagers as part of the Krishnapatnam port’s CSR activity.

Hon’ble minister congratulated the Port team for the passionate CSR initiatives and their diligent execution. In alignment with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative Port has a practice of making visiting dignitaries plant a sapling which eventually will turn the Port in to a clean and green port. As part of this, Hon’ble minister planted a sapling and congratulated the port for this noble need.

Later at the KAPS building, hon’ble minister inaugurated the Corporate Affairs Facilitation Centre (CAFC) which will act as a business space for stake holders.

It is essential for all stake holders of port who are dealing with Customs Department to be in the proximity which improves their efficiency. Operations would be easy and hassle free. This logistic advantage will eventually add to faster operations at the port.

Keeping this in view, management of Krishnapatnam Port have developed 12 office spaces each consisting 300 Sq. ft. along with conference hall with

attached washrooms in the 4th floor of the KAPS building. These rooms are specifically offered to the stake holders of Krishnapatnam Port who are into Customs Brokerage / Steamer Agency / Freight Forwarding / Ship Chandling / Liner Agency and dealing with Customs Department.

Such a facility near the Custom House being developed and offered to the stake holders is first of its kind in India.

Towards the end of his visit, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal was given a detailed orientation about Krishnapatnam Port, its performance and achievements since inception. During his port visit he could examine the marine infrastructure from the sea side as well.

Providing quality education and developing employable skills among communities are the guiding

principles of CVR Foundation. This echoes vision of our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji who says, “Skilling is building a better India. If we have to move India towards development then skill development should be our mission”.

As a part of this, port has so far set up a skilling academy, which includes tailoring centre for women, welding institute and driving school. CVR group believes that education is the ‘global equalizer’ which enables socio-economic transformation in society. With this objective, group has successfully established the CVR English Medium School. Another great contribution is starting of Navaneetha Public School (NPS), a boarding school for the poorest of the poor with international standards.

PORT VISIT

Now, this new public school will open doors to the world of opportunities for the youngsters of this region and enable them to pursue their dreams eventually reaching their goals in life.

The visit of minister started with grand welcome through guard of honour. Later he planted a sapling. Dr Harsh Vardhan ji was given an orientation about Krishnapatnam Port, its performance and achievements since inception. As for Kapil Dev, he was enthralled by the school infrastructure, quality of education and the facilities provided to the underprivileged children by the CVR foundation, a CSR initiative of Krishnapatnam Port. Both students and employees vied with each other for taking selfies with the great cricketer. He interacted with the bright, well mannered and enthusiastic young children for a while and before left them with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Kapil Dev and A Different Ball Game

Kapil Dev is still lighting up the world of sport. The former India World Cup-winning captain took up golf after he retired from test cricket in 1994.Kapil Dev is a natural at all sports. He played football for East Bengal, almost represented India at golf in the amateur category, ran races, was exceptionally good at badminton and table tennis too. But golf was a special attraction for Kapil Dev. Talking about golf he says

“Golf is a game where you compete against yourself. I wanted to be myself. Wanted to know myself. And the golf course gave me the opportunity. At cricket, I was playing in front of thousands. At golf, I was playing against myself, looking to improve with every shot. It was fun trying to dictate the ball, making it sink within the par demand was a feat. Golf has been a pleasant experience.”

When one looks at the profile of legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, these words describe a lot

about this great former Indian all-rounder. The image of Kapil Dev receiving the 1983 Prudential World Cup on the Players balcony at the Lord’s Cricket Ground remains firmly etched in the minds of Indian cricket fans. That is possibly the fondest memory of Kapil Dev, the greatest all-rounder India has produced.

On 4th August this legendary cricketer visited Krishnapatnam Port, another legend in the making.

Visit of Kapil Dev began with the Guard of Honor at the KSSPL Grounds, followed by planting of a sapling by the guest. Later, the Legend was escorted to the administrative block where he was given a tour of the Port command and control centre, a centralized State of the art Command and control Center built with state-of-the-art technology to monitor port security and operations.

After this, Kapil Dev was shown a detailed presentation about Krishnapatnam Port, showcasing its performance and achievements since its inception, which included a brief walkthrough of ocen2door, the most recent initiative of Krishnapatnam port transforming the way cargo is delivered. This was followed by an extensive port visit including a view of the marine infrastructure from the seaside. Kapil Dev was amazed at the infrastructure, scale of operations, facilities and services provided by the port to its customers.

Rousing reception

What seemed to be a normal day for the children at Navaneeta Public School turned into a memorable day when the Haryan Hurricane walked into the school with his inimitable wide smile. Children were thrilled to see him and couldn’t believe their eyes that India’s greatest living legend is in front of them.

He was amazed at the CVR Links, first of its kind, world-class 9-hole ocean linked integrated golf course (Part of upcoming 18-hole course). Looking at the irresistible beautifully carved course, true to the spirit of an avid golfer he played a game of golf with senior officials of port for a while.

Records Galore!

The first captain to lead the Indian team to a world cup victory, Kapil Dev is a name that will forever be equivalent to the term ‘Legend’. Apart from a world cup winner, the former Indian cricketer is also known to be one of the greatest cricketing all-rounders of all time. During the course of his wonderful career Kapil Dev this cricketing master received many laurels like the Arjuna Award, followed by Padma Shri, then became the Wisden Cricketer of the Year and the Padma Bhushan award.

Blunt, Bold

KAPIL DEV born 06 January 1959 to Ram Lal Nikhanj and his wife Raj Kumari did his schooling from DAV school and later attended St. Edward’s School in Shimla. He debuted for Haryana in November 1975 in a match against Punjab. He scalped six wickets and restricted the opposition to just 63 runs and thus helped Haryana to win. He made his test debut against Pakistan in October 1978, At one time he held the world record as the highest wicket taker in the test cricket, with a total haul of 434 wickets. He was honored with Padma Shri—India’s fourth highest civilian award—in 1982 and In 1991, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India.

Krishnapatnam Port like Kapil Dev is known for its immaculate records and awards that have created history. Krishnapatnam port has been awarded the best port operator award by Lloyd’s in 2011, reckoned as the green port of India and has also bagged the golden peacock environment management award in 2015. Krishnapatnam port is the fastest growing port in the east Coast of India with best in class infrastructure and has a capacity of handling 70 MMT (Bulk and Break bulk) and 6 Million TEU (Containers) p.a, making it one of the largest ports in India.

Being Human

Founded in 2007, CVR Foundation is a charitable trust institutionalised by Shri Chinta Visweswara Rao, Chairman of the CVR Group of Companies. The group believes it has the responsibility of conducting business in ways that benefit communities, the environment, and in becoming a powerful enabler in transforming lives. Currently, the foundation involves and invested more than 200 crores in the areas of: Education, Skill Building and Job Development, Health, Safety, Sanitation and Environment, Community and Local Economy Development.

Many may not be aware of the fact that Kapil Dev runs a charity organization, which works for the poor educating them, and finds jobs for them. He says that if you don’t feel within yourself that you want to do something good for society or good for the world, and then there’s no point doing it. But if you really fell strongly, one should spend 5% of their time or life giving back to the people who require help and create big difference.

During the time he spent at the port, he while wondering at the huge infrastructure created by the port, mentioned that there would be lot of job opportunities for the locals of Nellore.

Kapil Dev was every bit a sportsman. He was never run

out in his Test career. He also

never missed a Test or a one-day match

due to injury.

BULK COKING COAL

Coking Coal prices have continued to fall as supply became steady without any hindrance. At the

same time, there has been no substantial increase in demand. The reason: moderate import demand from Chinese steel makers.

India plans to increase its import of coking coal from Canada in a bid to diversify its import basket, the steel ministry said in a recent statement. India was in talks with Canada’s Teck Resources Ltd for long-term purchase agreements after a cyclonic disruption in Australia cut supplies earlier this year. “Although various measures are being taken to increase the supply of indigenous coking coal, India’s dependence on imported coking coal would continue,” the statement said.

“In such a scenario, multiple options for sourcing coking coal imports would lead to cost advantage and choice,” the ministry said, adding that Canadian coking coal imports were expected to increase.

As per the production targets in National Steel Policy 2017, the coking coal requirement is projected to increase from the current level of around 60 million tons per annum to 160 million tons per annum. Although various measures are being taken to increase the supply of indigenous coking coal, India’s dependence on imported coking coal would continue.

India Ratings expects domestic coal consumption growth in India to remain tepid on account of subdued demand

from thermal power plants, with an expectation of power plant capacity utilisation remaining sub-65% in the medium term.

It has estimated that prices for the benchmark Newcastle coal with 5,500 calories of energy value will hover between $50 per tonne and $60 per tonne between 2018 and 2022.

India Ratings feels that government’s policies on large seaborne trade and persistent substitution to renewable energy are likely to have a significant influence on coal prices.

However, India’s domestic coal production is all set to increase on account of government efforts to reduce imports. The higher target is partly to be met by production in coal blocks fraught with clearances issues.

Although India’s coking coal imports remained largely flat in FY2016, the same is slated to rise in the current year on the back of higher demand,” ICRA said in a report.

Indian agriculture is no longer n remote sector. It has progressed rapidly in recent years and ranks now as the

second-largest food producer in the world, touching $ 367 billion in 2014. The country’s agricultural production is far above that of the US, which once supplied food grains to India to tide over our domestic food shortage. Unknown to many, India’s international trade in agricultural products fetches higher earnings for the country than trade in services or manufacturing.

India, projected to be the most populous country over the next decade, will account for the biggest increase in wheat production globally, according to a report by the UN and OECD. The increase in wheat production is expected to occur through higher yields and with 15 million tonnes India will account for the biggest increase in production.

Goods exports during 2016-17 stood at $276.28 billion, out of which agri exports comprised of $33.38 billion representing 12.08% of the total exports, an official statement said. Exports of food products monitored by APEDA during 2016-17 stood at $16.28 billion representing 48.77% of agri exports from the country. Vietnam, UAE, Saudi Arabia, USA, Iran, Iraq and Nepal are the major destinations for export of food products from India.

India: An Agricultural Powerhouse

The last decade saw India also emerge as the world’s largest exporter of rice (ahead of Thailand and Vietnam) and No. 2 in cotton (after US). Equally amazing was corn.

Rice exporters see a pick-up in demand for the Indian cereal from Bangladesh as the recent floods in that country have impacted output and sent prices high. Also, a drought in Sri Lanka has resulted in improved demand for the finer varieties such as sona masuri, exporters said.

India’s rice output touched a new high of 109.15 mt during 2016-17, against the targeted 108.5 mt. For the current year, the centre has maintained the production target at 108.5 mt. For the kharif marketing season 2016-17, the centre has so far procured 38.49 mt of rice, against 33.99 mt.

As per Union Budget 2017-18, allocation of US$148.74 billion was made for agriculture sector & welfare of farmers.

said the area is blessed with good land, hardworking, industrious and enterprising people as well as able political leadership.

Shri Amitabh Kant further said that China had achieved growth during the past few decades through linking of ports with manufacturing hubs. He pointed out that Krishnapatnam and Nellore region are strategically located with Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor and Bengaluru-Chennai Industrial Corridor passing through.

National Institution for Transforming India, known as NITI Aayog’, a Government of India policy think-

tank was created to foster involvement and participation in the economic policy-making process by the State Governments of India. The emphasis is on bottom-up approach and make the country to move towards cooperative federalism.

In the context of Sagarmala project, NITI Aayog has recommended creation of one Shenzhen-style Coastal Employment Zone (CEZ) one on the western coast and another on the eastern coast near deep-draft ports capable of accommodating very large and heavily loaded ships. To be successful, these zones would have to cover a large area (Shenzhen covers 2,050 square kilometres) and would have to have some existing infrastructure and economic activity.

An important advantage of locating the zones near the coast is that they would attract large firms interested in serving the export markets. These firms would bring with them technology, capital, good management and links to the world markets. They would help create an ecosystem around them in which productive small and medium firms would emerge and flourish.

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of the front runners for the prestigious `3,000 crore Coastal Employment Zone (CEZ), to be implemented by the Centre in partnership with the state government to attract globally competitive industries and create large-scale employment opportunities. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya and his team met Chief Minister Sri N Chandrababu Naidu in 2016 and promised a field visit to take a final call on the location.

To assess the viability of such a long-term project, a high-level team of NITI Aayog and experts from the Central government visited the Krishnapatnam Port recently and enquired about the availability of huge chunks of land, electricity, water and other resources.

The team consisted of Mr Yadhuvendra Mathur, Additional Secretary, NITI Aayog, Mr Sanjeev Gupta, Additional Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and Mr Abhishek Chandra, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India.

The team sought details of land that would be made available in Krishnapatnam node surroundings for

considering this region, which is located on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), for the proposed CEZ.

AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Executive Chairman Mr P Krishnaiah, Vice Chairman & Managing Director Mr A Babu and Nellore District Collector Mr R Mutyala Raju, who accompanied the Central team, explained the availability of nearly 20,000 acres of contiguous land in the Krishnapatnam port surroundings.

Krishnapatnam port CEO Mr Anil Yendluri made a case for the connectivity projects under Sagarmala explaining the state of the art infrastructure available at the port. The team members have expressed satisfaction over the excellent infrastructure in the Krishnapatnam area suitable for many projects after an aerial survey of the Krishnapatnam Port and adjoining areas.

During a power point presentation, APIIC officials emphasised the on feasibility

aspect to setup any kind of industrial units in Krishnapatnam region while pointing to rail, road and air connectivity.

Under the CEZ, the main focus would be on attracting large, world-class industries that would each promise to create 10,000 to 40,000 direct, skill-based jobs within a specified time.

Another thrust area of this was to promote clusters of specific industries in one place so as to give them world class infrastructure, a vibrant port and challenge them to aim at global market and Exim trade rather than seeking a share in the Indian market.

Chittoor collector Mr P S Pradyumna, joint collector of Prakasam Ms Naga Lakshmi, and Port Director & CEO Mr Anil Yendluri were also present during this visit.

We’ve all heard the saying before: “The customer is always right.” Though it may

not be completely accurate in every case, the philosophy still holds true —the customer should always feel he or she has the full support of the company or organization that he or she is supporting. Not only do customers expect companies to give them a high-quality product or service, but also they equally demand an even higher level of customer service and attention, especially when they aren’t completely pleased. In an era when consumers have the power to instantly boost or destroy a company’s reputation strong customer service becomes table stakes.

At Krishnapatnam Port customer takes centre stage. Our Customer Relations department (CR) consistently tops the polls when it comes to great customer service. Our omni channel customer service system offers immediate responses to customer queries. KPCL is one of the most customer-focused ports in India today. We foster transparency and trust and consistently go the extra mile to serve our customers by providing round the clock service. The entire customer experience is created through recruiting efficient and passionate people, training them and continuously raising the bar when it comes to being empathetic.

Port makes entire customer experience seamless and effortless. We take ownership of every operational issue to provide end-to-end solutions to customers. The team at CR tracks, reviews and updates vessel arrivals,

cargo, customs clearances, warehouse/yard activities, logistics, dispatch, with constantly identifying and resolving essential problems often before they impact service levels and smooth flow of business.

In the infographic you will notice the growing numbers of vessels/services that are calling at the port. The year 2016-17 has been a very satisfying and fulfilling year for Krishnapatnam Port with handling of wide range of new cargoes which include – Project cargo, Red Lentils, Hot rolled coils and Clinker.

KDTA believes that road safety education is

paramount for all road users. KDTA is committed to working with organizations and young people who are more likely to

be involved in a road accidents than any other

age group in our country. KDTA is actively getting

involved in educating all road users to help them fully understand the road and its potential dangers. Driver training is not just about getting a driving license but is an essential skill for life. So, the main objective is training in road safety!

KDTA is one of the best driving schools in Andhra Pradesh and is arguably the most progressive. The reason why KDTA has become so successful is because of its demonstration and explanation of the inner parts of LMV and HMVs to make the students understandable easily. Certified instructors teach both theory in class and practice.

In line with long term institutional capacity expansion, recent initiative under the Driving Academy is to tie up with pre-eminent driving academies of the world. Commitment to Hyderabad Trade

Sahanav in Sanskrit means ‘coming together’. A trade meet “Sahanav 2017” was organized by KPCT in

Singapore during March when the entire KPCT sales and marketing staff travelled to Singapore. A gala reception was hosted at the resplendent Four Seasons Hotel for our customers and supporters from the industry which included Shipping Lines, Feeder Operators, NVOCCs, Freight Forwarders and Trading Houses expressing gratitude for their constant encouragement to KPCT. The guests started to trickle in from 6 pm onwards and were received by the KPCT team who were looking dapper in their business attires. Being a Friday, it was an joyful evening with some great conversations. For the KPCT team who had travelled from India, this was a good opportunity to interact with the trade and understand the dynamics in south-east Asia region. The guests were updated with the cargo growth at KPCT as well as the new initiatives by the port, infrastructure and vibrant economy. A brief introduction was made about our digital platform – Ocean 2 Door – which captivated the audiences. In the ensuing Q & A session, maximum

questions asked were related to O2D (Ocean 2 Door). The audience’ reaction to the digital concept was indeed their stamp of approval. Digital medium is the way forward in various streams and shipping is no exception. Dinner was served, and the spread was an eclectic mix of both local and Indian flavors.

The food was enjoyed by all while the conversations continued for long.

A big thank you goes out to all our guests for taking time out and making this event a grand success.

EXPO PULSES

Heart Beat of PulsesKPCT is the future gateway for Nagpur Trade

In line with the strategy of promoting Krishnapatnam Port in the extended hinterland of our country, a six member KPCT delegation

attended Dall-Rice Tech Expo in Nagpur on 28th-29th May. Nagpur is strategically located at the centre of India’s map and is poised to emerge as a hub for distribution of pulses to the remote areas of our country. KPCT stands committed to support the local trade community and thereby providing a robust alternative to the present gateway port, Nhava Sheva.

The Dall-Rice Tech Expo was organised together with the opening of common facility centre (CFC) of Dall Mill Cluster of Nagpur supported by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium enterprises (MSME), Government of India. This CFC is poised to serve the local trader/farmer for processing imported/domestic pulses. The Nagpur pulses trader fraternity is working tirelessly to promote Nagpur as the pulses business centre and CFC will play a major role in that direction.

KPCT stall at the expo created lot of buzz with maximum footfalls thanks to the innovative design with Pulses as a theme. KPCT team engaged with the visitors comprising of traders, millers, farmers etc. The details of port infrastructure, advantages of using KPCT were explained with the help of flyers, brochure & portfolio. Visitors were also informed about the commencement of regular train connectivity boosting the seamless flow of cargo, which is missing at moment between KPCT and ICD Nagpur. The new initiative of Ocean to door (O2D) which is a digital platform providing end to end logistic solution to the customers generated numerous queries from the visitors. KPCT was also marketed as the gateway port among various stall owners pertaining to manufacturing/assembling/importing of machinery for Dall Mill industry.

Overall, KPCT name resonated well with numerous potential customers which will surely bring additional volume from central part of India in future.

GROWTH NOTCONTAINED!

We stepped into our 5th year at KPCT with a sense of purpose that was born out of confidence

in our product delivery and inspired by the support from the logistics and exim trade. The robust logistics eco-system that has developed at KPCT, the liners operating at KPCT and the exporters and importers of our hinterland were our enthusiastic cheer-leaders, motivating us to do more, grow more.

The first barrier that was busted was the low import volume. The solar parks in AP, Telangana and Karnataka were happy to have their ‘own’ port for solar import where any special facility required was immediately customised for individual requirement. Some importers required bonded storage, others required transportation, yet others required labour and equipment for de-stuffing boxes at their remote sites. No challenge was too big for our proactive operations team at

CONTAINER GROWTH

the port, who took pride in planning and flawless delivery. The customs department at KPCT was the cherry on the cake with all solar clearances within 24 hours! The solar importers were delighted and solar imports soared to 2000 X 40’ per month!

On the export front, a growing panorama of export commodities have made their way towards the Krishnapatnam Port gateway from AP, Telangana and Karnataka, as a culmination of the quest of India’s exporters to find efficient and cost effective gateway ports. KPCT, along with our CFS and warehousing partners Seabird, Gateway and CONCOR have risen to the demands of the country’s export trade with a 360 degree approach to providing the export facilities needed.

The greatest encouragement has been of course from our sea-side partners, the container shipping lines, container feeder operators and the NVOCC companies who have provided the exim trade in KPCT’s hinterland with shipping connections the world over. The new service offerings by liners to facilitate the trade during this year are:

Apart from the import and export cargo being handled by the liners at KPCT, an exciting development was the commencement of transhipment operations, facilitated by the Indian Coastal carrier, Shreyas Shipping deploying a KPCT to Kolkata – Haldia service and mainline operators Maersk, HMM and Zim utilising the facility by transferring the transhipment operations from Singapore / PKL to KPCT for connecting Kolkata and Haldia cargoes to/fro China. To encourage this coastal trade our operations department has immediately made available 3 MHCs for uninterrupted handling of the coastal feeders. It is a matter of great satisfaction to be able to bring cost efficiencies to liners in their transhipment operations. A further enhancement of the transhipment service may be brought about by weekly feeder connectivity from KPCT to Chittagong.

Our endeavour to continually provide improved services to the exim trade will continue. We are unwavering in our objective to help our customers grow their business.

In the era of globalisation ports and terminals globally are witnessing growth in container volumes. Unlike other industries, shipping has

been slow in adoption of information technology. Digitalisation has just started to reduce the operational hindrances and improve productivity.Use of Information Technology is crucial for enhanced transparency, reliability, speed and substantially reducing the time taken for moving containers.Realising the need for a dramatic change in the way container documentation moves, and also as part of Ease of Doing Business (EDB) initiative, Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal (KPCT) has taken the first step to embrace a solution to bring all the stakeholders of terminal on to a common platform.e-Xpressway is a cloud based electronic platform to speedup container terminal

SAFETY CONTAINERS

SCAN FOR SAFETYCargo scanning or non-intrusive inspection (NII) refers to non-destructive methods

of inspecting and identifying goods in transportation systems. It is often used for scanning of inter-modal freight shipping containers. State-of-the-art container

scanning is required to be installed at ports which will speed-up throughput and improve detection.

Keeping this in view Krishnapatnam Port had installed a drive-thru Container Scanner at north-western edge of the port for scanning the imported / export cargo in containers. This scanner adheres to the standards and specifications prescribed by Additional Commissioner (Logistics), Directorate of Logistics, CBEC, New Delhi.

The Rapiscan Eagle P 60 is with high – energy X-ray has the ability to rapidly scan trucks, supports inspection at critical facilities, seaports and border crossings. The Traffic Control and Monitoring System enables automated operation with scan throughput upto 180 vehicles per hour.

“We all crew of MT Pharmony are regular to discharge operations at Krishnapatnam Port. Very happy and Thanks very much for the service with excellence from port control”

– Captain Mustika Surya

TRUE TO THE SPIRIT OF INDIAN TRADITION OF HOSPITALITY, GUESTS AT PORT ARE WELCOMED WITH WARMTH AND AFFECTION.

Captains of ships sail for six months of the year to deliver the ship’s cargo as safely

and economically as possible on its scheduled round trip, beginning at one end of the world to the other end traversing through multiple port cities before heading home.

It is a schedule, which means he and his crew, spend more time on challenging waters. While at sea captain and his crew work every day, sometimes for up to 24 hours at a stretch if circumstances dictate, for example if weather conditions are poor or there is a particularly hectic turnaround schedule in port.

When someone lands in a country, his first impressions of that country and its people should be warm, welcoming and comforting. To create such an everlasting impression of our country and port, Krishnapatnam Port initiated a practice to present a basket of seasonal fruit to the ship’s captain welcoming him and his crew as a token of appreciation.

Thank you for the cooperation and support and also the delicious basket of seasonal fruits. Since the city is far away from Port, we would request if a seafarers club can be opened in your port. So that the seafarers can visit the club to buy some basic necessities, also for making long distance calls and to play some indoor games. This would be very useful and helpful to us.
