What I learned from my audience

feedbackWhile creating and showing my film trailer and ancillary products to my target audience, I gathered vital information that would further improve my products and see how they were successful at appealing to my target audience.

Through multiple feedback on video and focus groups from various people in my demographic, I have found out that:

My film trailer is very conventional to the Post-Apocalyptic Horror genre through elements such as violence and a sense of isolation and despair. The soundtrack is also effective at creating a chilling atmosphere and the locations are varied and are suitable of the genre. These all help create an appealing trailer for my target audience.

My film poster is conventional and attractive to my target audience. The product also conveys the themes of hopelessness which is present in all of my products. It correctly represents the characters and successfully represents the genre.

My magazine cover is informative and engaging to my target audience. the magazine cover is also conventional to the form. The images relate to the horror genre and are appealing to the target audience.

How I got feedback from my target

audienceThe following forms of media I used to collect audience feedback from my target audience were:

Questionnaire results from SurveyMonkey which allowed me to ask questions on what they liked about my products and what needs to be improved. The feedback I received was informative and detailed which greatly improved my products so that they were professional and appealing. The feedback also gave me a greater understanding of the conventions which helped to further appeal to my target audience. An example of feedback being useful is the soundtrack which, through audience feedback, helped me find non-diegetic sound which created tension and portrayed a sense of fear.

Social media such as YouTube through its comments helped me understand if my products were effective and appealed to my target audience positively. Overall, the reception was positive which gave me a greater understanding of the genre and the what the target audience found enjoyable and appealing.

Video focus groups also gave me a further insight into my target audience and to understand the conventions of the genre and what conventions were appealing to them. I also learnt what the target audience wanted in my products. This also shows that I’ve effectively created appealing products that are faithful to the genre and are successful.

Based on audience feedback, how

might I improve on my products?Film Trailer

I would use a bigger variation of locations to further emphasise the isolation and the themes of death and hopelessness.

More alternating costumes to create a bigger sense of a journey and how time has passed.

The use of camerawork could be improved by including more variation in camera shots rather than just the conventional ones.

Film Poster

I would try to have a more conventional layout to make the poster more appealing to my target audience.

I would portray the two protagonists as more vulnerable by using a low-angle camera shot.

Magazine Cover

Edit the image more effectively in order for the magazine cover to look more professional and appealing to the target audience.

Include more coverlines to successfully appeal to my target audience more.

The background is too basic so I would include a location that is conventional to the genre as well as a typical horror magazine cover.

Was the audience feedback

useful?Overall, the audience feedback I collected when making my products and from my finished products was very useful as they helped further develop my products so that they were more professional and successful at appealing to my target audience. Feedback has also gave me a greater understanding of my audience and how specific aspects of the genre are more appealing than others.

If I were to release my full finished product, audience feedback would allow me to find out if my promotional methods were effective and if it fits the Post-Apocalyptic Horror genre well. It would also allow me to know what needs improving thus making my product the best that it can be in attracting my demographic.
