WARNING: Coding and programming are technical service procedures that can alter behaviour in the vehicle an disable control units if made improperly. It is important to have the proper equipment and training. If you are unfamiliar with these procedures, please check with your car dealer’s service centre.

WARNING: MMI2G cars do not require coding. All MMI2G cars come with an external amplifier in the system already.

WARNING: MMI3G/3G+ cars may require coding! Only if the vehicle is originally equipped with a B&O or BOSE external MOST amplifier, in that case the coding is already there. However, all the cars provided only with integrated-amplifier-and-radio combo do require coding to make the bit DMI work correctly.

The procedure for this can be coded with the VAG diagnostic tool, the Ross-Tech VCDS software suite or any other third party’s Audi diagnostic tools.

The following sequence outlines the coding required using the Ross-Tech tools:

1. After connecting to the OBDII port, the user has to select the Control module needed. The below figure illustrates how to select the control module.

2. Once the list of control modules is displayed, the user has to select the CAN-Gateway, also known as the Diagnose interface for Datenbus in the Audi VAGCOM tools. The next figure shows which control module to select for the CAN Gateway.

3. Once the CAN gateway has been selected and communication is established between the vehicle diagnostics and the module, the CAN Gateway display will now show an “Installation list” button that can be selected as shown below in the following figure.

4. The user can select the ‘Installation list’ and the CAN Gateway will bring up the list of options currently installed in the vehicle. From this it is a simple matter of ticking the “Sound System” (address 47) checkbox and saving the configuration.

5. In addition to this, the radio, see entry 56, also needs to be coded and this is byte 3, bit 0 of the Long Coding string. The coding needed for this can be seen in the following figure using the Long Coding helper.

Long coding, 56 radio:

01 = AM/FM EUR (02 USA)01 = DAB (fixed value) (00 sirius USA)03 = Operating Mode01 = External Amp (02 if the amp is inside, e.g.: not B&O) 00 = Sound Profile00 = No info00 = No info00 = No info01 = Chassis

The setting for “external amp” needs to be 01.

Save the configuration.Once the coding has been completed, as usual you can proceed to the update and the configuration of the bit DMI (refer to the Quick Start Guide/User’s manual, available for download at www.audison.eu).
