ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE Women make up 53 percent of the tech college’s student populaon and 65 percent of scholarship awards. Many of us can probably relate to these moms returning to school: “Seriously, am I crazy? It’s been more than a decade since I’ve been to school. That’s the daunng thought that comes to stay-at-home mothers’ minds when we consider going back to school. I can now tesfy to other women who come upon this thought that going back to school is not crazy!” “As a mom, I remember days where all I wanted to do was go back to school and prove that I could do more than make a peanut buer and jelly sandwich!” If only we could bole up their gratude and air mail it directly to you! “I am thrilled to know that you believe in me and are willing to invest in my future and the future of my family.” “A huge smile was my expression when I received the scholarship. My family was very proud of me and, most importantly, my children were also proud.” An increase in a mom’s earnings will mean stable housing, the probability that her own children will graduate from high school, and beer health for the enre family. ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Women make up 53 percent of the tech college’s student population and 65 percent of scholarship awards. Many of us can probably relate to these moms returning to school:

“Seriously, am I crazy? It’s been more than a decade since I’ve been to school. That’s the daunting thought that comes to stay-at-home mothers’ minds when we consider going back to school. I can now testify to other women who come upon this thought that going back to school is not crazy!”

“As a mom, I remember days where all I wanted to do was go back to school and prove that I could do more than make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!”

If only we could bottle up their gratitude and air mail it directly to you!

“I am thrilled to know that you believe in me and are willing to invest in my future and the future of my family.” “A huge smile was my expression when I received the scholarship. My family was very proud of me and, most importantly, my children were also proud.”

An increase in a mom’s earnings will mean stable housing, the probability that her own children will graduate from high school, and better health for the entire family. Thank you for investing in their success!

THE POWER OF “WE”

While playing in the college’s “2015 Student Success Golf Tournament” with President Collette Mercier, Representative Brad Dee and Senator Scott Jenkins had an epiphany after speaking with Jason Werner, Construction Tech instructor. They asked the president about the possibility of the college building a playhouse, with their personal financial support, for the Weber School District Foundation’s “Christmas Tree Jubilee” auction.* A collaboration that would provide students with additional hands-on training while helping one of the college’s close partners? It was a win for all involved. With a goal of having a playhouse ready for the 2016 Jubilee, Mr. Werner developed building plans and set his students to work. His “shabby chic” house includes a rustic metal roof, wooden plank floors, working windows, a Dutch door, and a not-so-shabby inner Lego building wall complete with Legos. Some lucky child (and who knows—maybe even an adult) is going to be very happy. The tech college has been fortunate to have the support of these legislators for many years—Representative Dee since 2003 and Senator Jenkins since 2001. They have a strong commitment to the community they serve, whether they’re at the legislature or personally supporting something as small as a playhouse. Their terms end this year, and they’ll be missed, but we know they’ll remain our strongest supporters.

Senator Scott Jenkins (left) and Representative Brad Dee (right) stopped by the college on October 5, 2016, to see the playhouse they commissioned.

Here’s the gang that made all the magic happen (L to R) Senator Scott Jenkins, President Collette Mercier, Representative Brad Dee, and Jason Werner, Construction Tech instructor.

*The Weber School District Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 educational nonprofit corporation established to support the Weber School District. The foundation evaluates and explores opportunities to generate contributions from public and private sources to fund various educational opportunities that fall within the foundation’s mission statement. Since 1980, the “Christmas Tree Jubilee” has raised millions of dollars to support children in Weber County, particularly those with special needs.
