Letter from the PresidentWelcome to Betties Pipeline, your source for Betties360 facts, photos, upcoming event listings and appreciations. Please let us know, by replying to this e-mail, if you would like unsubscribe to the Pipeline at any time.

Betties360 is a not-for-profit organization with the mission of inspiring girls and women through action sports and outdoor adventure. Sound fun? It is!

Our goal is to give underprivileged girls, aged 11-13, access to adventure sports and the great outdoors. These experiences create a long-term impact by cultivating life skills and inspiring confidence and courage, thereby helping to create the leaders of tomorrow.

We accomplish this through day and overnight programs that include rock climbing, hiking, wind surfing, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. On these programs, we pair up girls and women in one-to-one mentor / mentee relationships, so they can share the experience of learning a new sport while developing relationships and achieving goals they never dreamt they could attain. The skills acquired on a program translate into life skills that can be used at home, in school and in their social networks for years to come.

We also have fundraisers throughout the year, some for women only and some co-ed, to ensure that women and their families are getting outside and learning new skills as well.

Betties360 is currently a 100% volunteer organization. Your time, energy and financial support make our programs possible – thank you! If you are a woman who is interested in joining us on a trip, as a volunteer or a mentor, please check out our calendar for 2009 and send us an e-mail! Also, we are always looking for grant writers and other volunteers to keep us moving forward and serving more girls and women. If you would like to support Betties360 in this way, we’d love to hear from you!

Live Inspired,

Stephanie

attention all VOLUNTEERS!!!We are now in the process of gathering volunteers and mentors for the upcoming Betties Rock! Outdoor Adventure Weekend on May 9th and 10th, 2009. If you would like to be considered for this trip (or for any other event, for that matter), please contact Betties’ Volunteer Coordinator, Erica Perrier, at [email protected]. You must be able to commit two full days for the trip itself, as well as one weekday evening, Tuesday, April 28th, for the mandatory volunteer Meet & Greet session.

Thanks to all of you, whether or not you could attend, we are now able to cover our liability insur-ance for the year. This means we will be tripling the number of of-fered programs! We will be having 5 programs for girls and women, as well as 3 sport-specific workshops, throughout the year. Please see our calendar of events on page 3 so you can make plans to join us. We are so excited to get more girls and women into the great outdoors to learn ad-venture sports as well as life skills.

We are also so grateful to our sponsors who donated items that made this event such a success. Please keep these companies in mind with future purchases, know-ing they support Betties360.

save the date, November 7th, 2009, for the Third An-

nual Fine Wine and Feather Boas event, where we will once again celebrate you, our supporters, and keep the momentum going for 2010!

On December 6th, 2008, the Sec-ond Annual Fine Wine and Feather Boas fundraiser for Betties360 was held at the Ecotrust building. What an evening it was! The atmosphere was electric as you, in boas of a doz-en different colors, floated around the silent auction, sipped wine, and snacked on delicious finger food, all to benefit Betties360.

We would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to all of you for attending, and to everyone who helped make the evening such a huge success! Everyone’s spirit of giving was strong, as the bidding was com-petitive for all items, from kayaking lessons and outerwear, to yoga and a rental ski house in Sun River. The bicycle raffle turned into a live auc-tion on the fly, raising an additional $400 for our mountain bike pro-gram. You all rock! All the while, a slideshow of this year’s programs lit up the screen, reminding us of what we are striving toward.

you are quite likely to never feel you are paying more to shop this way. Then, you can purchase these items once a year, guaranteeing a larger total and free shipping; your cabinet will be well stocked long before you find yourself in dire straits with an empty roll of antiperspirant! Last, if

you are concerned about spam, use a junk e-mail account to sign up—you know you have one—a valid free Hotmail or Yahoo account that you use for all of those irritating little forms that require you to provide your contact information, but will only send you messages that you’ll never find useful.

What’s more, there are over 700 stores participating in iGive’s dona-tion program, including PETCO, Quill, Pottery Barn, eBay, Lands’ End, Staples, JCPenney, Barnes & Noble, Overstock.com, drugstore.com, Office Depot, Expedia, Home Depot, Best Buy, Gap and Nord-strom. Is anyone else thinking “holi-day gifts”? I certainly am.

All that you need to do is become a member of iGive.com, log in, se-lect your charity (ours is listed as BETTIES 3SIXTY), and start shop-ping at the iGive Mall. In addition, when you shop within 45 days of registering, they will donate an extra $5 to your cause! Don’t even get me started on those calculations!

Will iGive end world hunger or cure cancer? Probably not. How- ever, if you are looking for an easy and generally no-cost way to make a big difference for Betties, join Jenni-fer, dig out a credit card and get your-self online! See you at the Mall...

Friend of Betties, Jennifer Rollins, has found a unique way to show her support. Rather than driving to her local drugstore, she started using the Internet to buy everyday use items such as toothpaste, contact lens so-lution and dental floss. In doing so, via a website called iGive.com,

4% of her purchases goes directly to Betties360.

What is 4% of the cost of tooth-paste, contact lens solution and den-tal floss? Not very much, to tell the truth. In a year, I myself go through five tubes of toothpaste ($3.99 each), two rolls of dental floss ($2.99 each), and two large bottles of contact solu-tion ($11.99 each). This comes to a grand total of $49.91, 4% of which is just over $1.99. Not exactly enough save the world, unfortunately...

On the other hand, think about it this way. Right now, Betties360 has 297 people on its mailing list. 297 x $1.99 puts us very easily into some serious donation territory. $591.03 is more than half of the en-tire budget for the upcoming Betties Rock! Outdoor Adventure Weekend, or enough to sponsor 10 girls!

I can already hear the protests, as I had some of the same concerns my-self. Shipping makes the “cheaper” Internet costs quite a bit greater than what we can find at the drugstore! We’ll be inconvenienced by the wait for those needed products to arrive! Our e-mail inboxes will be flooded with junk messages!

Well, yes and no. There are enough free shipping deals—espe-cially if you sign up for scheduled deliveries or spend over $25—that
