GOSPEL AND MARRIAGE
GOD INSTITUTED MARRIAGE FROM THE BEGINNING
Genesis 2 : 21-2321 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
Genesis 2 : 21-2322 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Ephesians 5:22-23
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:22-23
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
The Glory of God is the
ultimate aim of marriage.
The Grace of God is the
ultimate hope for marriage.
The major problem in every marriage: SIN
DIVORCE
Greek – “apolou”means to separate fully by loosening & destroying
Matthew 19:6
Therefore they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.
TEACHINGS OF JESUS ABOUT DIVORCE
Matthew 19:7-8
7 They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?"
8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
The Gospel of God is the
ultimate picturein marriage.
Wives give a picture of the church to the world.
Husbands give a picture of Christ to the world.
The Roles..- As Christ relates to the church, the husband is the head of his wife
- As the church relates to Christ, the wife is the helper for her husband
Genesis 2 God designs this picture
Genesis 3 Sin distorts this picture
Ephesian 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Ephesian 5:33 However, let each one
of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Ephesian 5:28-29
28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,
REFLECT CHRIST THROUGH SACRIFICE
