EMPOWER

14 Luke the beloved physician greets you, as

does Demas.

Col 4:14

A medical doctor

A close friend of Apostle Paul and companion in missions

He writes the book of Luke, which is about the life and ministry of Jesus.

He writes the book of Acts, which is about the life and ministry of Jesus’ people, the first Christians, the early church, and their

explosion and expansion outside of Jerusalem.

10 My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. 11 Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. ... 14 Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings

Colossian 4:10-11,14

1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,

LUKE 1:1-3

William Mitchell Ramsay

He was one of the leading archeologists in the late 19th and early 20th century, and he had doubts about Luke’s historical accuracy.

He therefore set out to put the writer of Acts on trial.

He devoted his life to unearthing the ancient cities and documents of Asia Minor. After a lifetime of study, however, he concluded: 'Further study . . .

showed that the book could bear the most minute scrutiny as an authority for the facts of the Aegean world, and that it was written with such judgment, skill, art and perception of truth as to be a model of historical statement

(The Bearing of Recent Discovery, p. 85). On page 89 of the same book, Ramsay accounted,

'I set out to look for truth on the borderland where Greece and Asia meet, and found it there [in Acts].

“You may press the words of Luke in a degree beyond any other historian's and they stand the keenest scrutiny and the hardest treatment...”

1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.

2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.

ACTS 2:1-2

The Move of the Holy Spirit did not stop upto this day. THIS IS HIS DAY !

12 The apostles performed many signs and

wonders among the people. And all thebelievers used to meet together in

Solomon’s Colonnade.

ACTS 5:12

14 Nevertheless, more and more menand women believed in the Lord andwere added to their number.

ACTS 5:14-16

15 As a result, people brought the sickinto the streets and laid them on bedsand mats so that at least Peter’sshadow might fall on some of them ashe passed by. 16 Crowds gathered alsofrom the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and thosetormented by impure spirits, and all ofthem were healed.

ACTS 5:14-16

17 Then the high priest and all hisassociates, who were members of theparty of the Sadducees, were filledwith jealousy. 18 They arrested theapostles and put them in the publicjail.

ACTS 5:17-18

When proud people see “losers in life” picked by God and gives them His power to touch people, they become jealous and starts to oppose.

27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 and God has chosen the base things of the world, and things which are despised, and things which are not, in order to bring to nothing things that are;

1 COR 1:27-29

29 so that no flesh should glory in His presence.

1 COR 1:27-29

19 But during the night an angel of theLord opened the doors of the jail andbrought them out.

ACTS 5:19-23

20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said,“and tell the people all about this new life.”21 At daybreak they entered the templecourts, as they had been told, and began toteach the people. When the high priest andhis associates arrived, they called togetherthe Sanhedrin—the full assembly of theelders of Israel—and sent to the jail for theapostles.

ACTS 5:19-23

22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers didnot find them there. So they went back andreported, 23 “We found the jail securelylocked, with the guards standing at thedoors; but when we opened them, wefound no one inside.”

ACTS 5:19-23

24 On hearing this report, the captain of thetemple guard and the chief priests were ata loss, wondering what this might lead to.

ACTS 5:24-26

25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in thetemple courts teaching the people.” 26 Atthat, the captain went with his officers andbrought the apostles. They did not useforce, because they feared that thepeople would stone them.

ACTS 5:24-26

27 The apostles were brought in and madeto appear before the Sanhedrin to bequestioned by the high priest.28 “We gave you strict orders not to teachin this name,” he said. “Yet you have filledJerusalem with your teaching and aredetermined to make us guilty of this man’sblood.”

ACTS 5:27-28

29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “Wemust obey God rather than humanbeings! 30 The God of our ancestors raisedJesus from the dead—whom you killed byhanging him on a cross.

ACTS 5:29-32

31 God exalted him to his own right hand asPrince and Savior that he might bring Israelto repentance and forgive their sins. 32 Weare witnesses of these things, and so is theHoly Spirit, whom God has given to thosewho obey him.”

ACTS 5:29-32

33 When they heard this, they werefurious and wanted to put them to death.

ACTS 5:33

34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, ateacher of the law, who was honored by allthe people, stood up in the Sanhedrin andordered that the men be put outside for alittle while.

ACTS 5:34-39

35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Menof Israel, consider carefully what you intendto do to these men. 36 Some time agoTheudas appeared, claiming to besomebody, and about four hundred menrallied to him. He was killed, all hisfollowers were dispersed, and it all came tonothing.

ACTS 5:34-39

37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared inthe days of the census and led a band ofpeople in revolt. He too was killed, and allhis followers were scattered. 38 Therefore,in the present case I advise you: Leavethese men alone! Let them go! For if theirpurpose or activity is of human origin, it willfail.

ACTS 5:34-39

39 But if it is from God, you will not be ableto stop these men; you will only findyourselves fighting against God.”

ACTS 5:34-39

Act 22:3 I am a Jew, born and raised in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia. I was a

student of Gamaliel and was taught to follow every single law of our ancestors. In fact, I was just as eager to obey God

as any of you are today. - Apostle Paul

40 His speech persuaded them. They calledthe apostles in and had them flogged. Thenthey ordered them not to speak in thename of Jesus, and let them go.

ACTS 5:40-42

41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been countedworthy of suffering disgrace for theName. 42 Day after day, in the templecourts and from house to house, they neverstopped teaching and proclaiming the goodnews that Jesus is the Messiah.
