STANDARD ROTARY TABLES
Rotary tables with a system design re-duced to the mechanical basic ele-ments. The transmission of the rotarymovement from the geared motor to therotary table is ascertained by a gearedring or toothed belt. The construction-ally simple and therefore economicallypriced systems are precision drives, ad-ditionally equipped with a positioningpin.

COMPACT ROTARY TABLES
Key characteristics of the compact ro-tary tables are small dimensions andhigh precision. Typical fields of applica-tion are areas such as conveying tech-nology, medical technology, packagingindustry and therefore installations inwhich high-speed movements with pre-cision are a decisive feature.
Cyclical Turning
Turning is a standard process in automation lines. To be precise, thisinvolves stepwise turning and positioning in installations. In a typicalapplication, rotary indexing tables move work pieces into a robot cellby a 180° movement. The positioning of circularly arranged work sequences into the production cell is another example of the use of
rotary tables. Requirements for rotary tables are high accelerationand braking processes as well as precise positioning in the work positions in the dwell period.The product ranges of Expert-Tünkers and SOPAP include standardrotary tables with performance data of max. 150.000 Nm with
dimensions of max. Ø 10 m. All systems are designed for highest process reliability and thereforesuitable for use in high-volume machines.Taking into consideration design and size, we distinguish betweenthe following systems:
CAM-DRIVEN ROTARY TABLES
Rotary indexing tables, where the torque ofthe geared motor is transmitted via a barrelcam and track rollers to the rotary table.Depending on the drive system, a distinc-tion is made between rotary tables withfixed and flexible indexing.
Rotary tables with fixed indexingPrecision index drives for rotary move-ments transposing the motion profile withacceleration, braking and the required ro-tation angle scale over a form-closed barrelcam. Conventional three-phase motors with con-stant revolution speed are used.These rotary tables are suitable for horizon-tal and vertical operation, for instance, inthe form of trunnion drives.
High-precision fit in workingposition due to barrel cam profile principleThe table plate of rotary tables with fixedindexing is driven by two bolts. In the neu-tral position, they are moved to a broad-ened cam profil, thus ensuring a nearlybacklash free locked work position.
SMARTTURN: Encoder instead of mechanicalswitch mechanismThe new generation of rotary tables is op-tionally supplied with an inductive encoderand the autonomous control SmartTurn re-placing the complex mechanical switchmechanisms and taking control of thetable.Advantages:– Auto-adaptive system– Extremely simple commissioning by exe-cuting the first motion cycle
– readjustment not required– Integrated monitoring of the braking pathand thus wear and tear of the brakes withalarm signal „Reline“ and emergencyshut-down
Flexible Rotary TablesDrive module for implementing flexiblemovement tasks by using freely program-mable servo gear motors. The sequence ofmotions is determined by the motion profileof the servo gear motor. For this reason,output angle and acceleration can be freelyselected and specifically adapted to eachload case. Based on their flexible application, the rotary tables of this design are particularlysuitable for drive tasks, where the sequence of motions is to be adapted tothe production process, e.g. due to newloads, a new position/end positions or directions of travel. A typical example is theproduction of different vehicles in a produc-tion line requiring flexible retooling in thepace of production.
Heavy-duty Ring Tables Rotary tables in accordance with the camprinciple, are carried out in ring design dueto their dimensions and diameters of morethan 2 m. This results in the advantage ofvery flat basic constructions. The large centre diameter can be used either toarrange fixtures or positioning of handlingequipment s.a. robots.

The core element of a turning intermittentdrive is an index drive. In addition to com-plete rotary drives, Expert-Tünkers andSOPAP also provide this index drive as acomponent to be integrated by the clientinto plant systems.
Parallel-index DriveTransformation of the stepping motion viadisc cams, engaging into an output starequipped with yoke-type track rollers. Parallel arrangement of input and outputshaft. In the stop position, the dwell period,a backlash-free and form-closed outputpositioning is ensured.
Globoidal Index DriveRealization of the stepping motion via acam roll, engaging into the yoke-type trackrollers of the output star. Vertical arrange-ment of input and output shaft. Nearlybacklash-free mechanism, due to eccentricshaft bearing of the cam roll. The globoidalindex drives are also available as rotarytable with table plate.
