MWF: Share the Blessings of Qurbani 2011
Since 1989, Minhaj Welfare Foundation (MWF) has implemented Qurbani programs through
various rural areas of the third world ensuring the needs of the poor and destitute are met.
MWF has vast experience within localised communities; it has coordinated Qurbani services
through one of the largest collective Qurbani programs providing nourishment to the poor and
needy.
Within its first year Minhaj Welfare Foundation had an astonishing number of Qurbani’s almost
two decades ago and with the ongoing support of its donors MWF has provided many thousands
of beneficiaries with sacrificial meat.
In 2011, Qurbani was performed in many countries worldwide focusing on the recent flood hit
areas of Sindh, Pakistan and Horn of Africa in which millions have been left destitute of food and
water for several months.

This year MWF arranged Qurbani in many of the flood affected areas of Sindh and other
surrounding areas. MWF ‘Shared the blessings of Qurbani’ 2011 in more than 300 places

MWF coordinators spend many months on the ground prior to Eid ul Adha in purchasing the
animals. All of the animals are brought locally to sustain local farmers, reduce transport costs and
other costs. MWF ensures it donors that fresh meat is delivered during the days of Eid ul Adha
(for three days) to those in need in accordance to Prophetic tradition.

The collective Qurbani campaign began after Eid prayers throughout Pakistan. The main central
point for Qurbani (Udhiya) is in Lahore. MWF camps were divided into separate categories with
our experience and professional team coordinating distribution of the meat. The animals are
numbered accordingly to match the number of donors donating their Qurbani.
MWF’s volunteers spent their Eid day once again with the people of Pakistan and in particular
those affected by the floods in Sindh. MWF arranges a very through campaign and the packed
bags of meat are rightfully delivered meat in the hands of the poor and needy. Ahmed spoke to
our team and told them of his excitement of receiving the meat: “I am grateful to MWF for
remembering us on this day of Eid. You all (MWF) have sacrificed your time to celebrate Eid with
us, we can never thank you more”.
Each animal is numbered to match the donor
ID for whom the Qurbani is being performed
for.

EAST AFRICA DROUGHT: 1000 families supported in Kenya
The recent crisis in East Africa, the area most commonly known as ‘Horn of Africa’ witnessed
scorching temperatures and rising conflicts. Within July 2011 a severe drought hit the ‘Horn of
Africa’ leaving millions of people displaced and at risk.
This year MWF Qurbani program reached to more than a 1000 families in the River Tana District
including the following villages; Kitere, Amani, Baomo, Mnazini and Kinyadu. Sacrifice is a very
sacred moment and it provides a sense of joy and celebration. Most importantly people from
poor and marginalised areas can benefit from nourished and a good meal.
Iddi Dhado, the MWF Kenya coordinator passed on his greetings and gratitude to the donors of
MWF:
“We would like to thank each and every person who has chosen their Qurbani in Kenya. I cannot
thank you enough, you have remembered us again. May Allah bless you all for this great blessing.”

EAST AFRICA DROUGHT:
20,000 families supported in Somalia and Ethiopia
The ‘Horn of Africa’ is an area at most risk. The International development community has
announced shocking figures of the number of people affected from the drought. Severe droughts
and famine struck countries like Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti; approximately more than
12 million people were affected.
Share the blessings of Qurbani 2011 supported more than 5000 families displaced from various
regions of Ethiopia and Somalia including Bay, Bakol and Lowershabelle regions.
Those that have been affected by the drought are in a critical situation, much of their hope
depends on the aid provided to them by the INGO’ s working on the ground. Unfortunately for
millions of Somalia’s and Ethiopians this is only ‘Short Term’ and for a limited period.

So it’s a great joy for many when they see the sight of meat especially for those on Eid day in the
various camps. The beneficiaries receive an equal share and enough to feed their family for one
whole week.
‘A beautiful story of a mother’
MWF in Somalia primarily focused its distribution to the displaced families who lost their
livelihood from the drought. MWF provided sacrificial meat in Tarabunka and Sabad Xume
village IDP Camps, an area largely populated by displaced families.
“A mother reported during the days of Eid that some great chance happened to their lives because
of enough fresh meat and said for laughing that she felt mercy for bad cold affected her after she
drank the soup of meat (Maraq).” (Reported by our country office co-ordinator)

NIGERIA – MADAGLI
This year 2011 marked the third successive year of MWF’s Qurbani program in Nigeria. Qurbani
meat was distributed among the poor and the needy within the Madagali town Adamawa state in
Nigeria.
This year, Qurbani meat was distributed amongst the impoverished households, widows/orphans,
as well as sick and old in the various hospitals. Approximately 400 people in Madagali benefitted
from Udihya.
The Imam or group leader allocated for each establishment had shortlisted the names of relevant
beneficiaries, (who needed most among the poor and needy).
Appreciation to the donors
“On behalf of the entire Madagali
community, Adamawa state in
Nigeria we are making du’a for the
growth and protection of this
charity and for any person/pupils
who involve in making their
Qurbani donations to us and feed
hundreds of poor and needy in
