Dissemination EventsMiddle East University – JordanJune 2018

In June, 18th -19th, 2018 the second dissemination meeting was held at Middle East University (MEU) - Jordan for the project AT-SGIRES that was co-founded by the Erasmus + program of the European Union.

On behalf of MEU, Dr. Ahmad Nasereddin, welcomed the attendees from the partners and presented an introductory video about Middle East University. From his side, Dr. Adib Allahham, the representative of Newcastle University, summarized the project status up to this moment. Moreover, he explained the main objectives of the project and expected results. In addition, Dr. Allahham explained the budget and cash flow of the project and how reporting and deadlines.

Later, the AT-SGIRES work packages leaders gave presentations about their WP status and the last activities that they have done.

Smart Grid Workshop Middle East University – JordanJune 2018

• In June, 20th, 2018 a workshop on Smart Grid technology and grid connected RES Application was held at Middle East University.

• Dr. Hesham Abusaimeh, the project coordinator, welcomed the attendees, then the workshop started discussing the following topics:

1. The application of energy storage system in smart grid.2. Multi –vector energy system and transport in the smart grid.3. Home energy management system.4. The impact of the integration of renewable energy on the power grid.

Workshop on AT-SGIREDamascus University – SyriaJuly- Aug 2018

• In July, 24th, 2018 a dissemination workshop was held at Damascus University – Faculty of mechanical and electrical engineering- to disseminate AT-SGIRES project.

• The workshop started by a brief description of project goals and events, then the Vice CEO of National Energy Research Center (as a guest) gave a presentation on the research activities. The workshop resulted in a path way to establish a cooperation between NERC and the AT-SGRIES project.

• In August, 05th 2018 AT-SIGRES was a guest to a program on SAMA television (private Syrian satellite channel) entitled Keys, in the program Dr. Eng. Warkozek presented the project and its main goal and events.

Dissemination for AT-SGIRE in JIMEC 2018Middle East University – JordanOctober 2018

-In October, 15th. 2018 a dissemination workshop about AT-SGIRES project was held at MEU as a part of JIMEC2018 (Jordanian International Mechanical Engineering Conference) , Middle East University was one of the sponsors fir the conference .

-JIMEC was launched in 1995 and since then gained momentum over years and became a truly international engineering event that attracts researchers and professionals from around the globe to address research developments in a wide variety of topics in the field of mechanical engineering. Building networks and fostering collaboration between participating researchers and institutions has always been a major goal of JIMEC.

Info. Day about AT-SGIRES AlBaath University – SyriaOctober 2018

-In October 24th 2018 The Center for Renewable Energy at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Al-Baath University organized an introductory day about the Project AT-SGIRES Project.

-The Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, pointed to the importance of the project, which helps to optimize the use of alternative energy especially the solar energy in summer or winter, where the reconstruction phase in Syria will depend on the use of traditional energies and alternative energies.

Al Mohammadia School of Engineers in Rabat – Morocco November 2018

- In November 26th 2018 the third dissemination meeting about AT-SGIRES was held at Al Mohammadia School of Engineers-EMI in Rabat; this meeting was aiming to discuss the progress of different work packages and the collected related data of the MENA region, EU region and stakeholders; at the end of the meeting Dr. Ahmad Nasereddin the representative of Middle East University handed over the university Trophy to the Director of Al Mohammadia School of Engineers.

-In November 28th 2018 a workshop on smart grids technology as part of the AT-SGIRES project dissemination activities. The workshop attracted more than 175 participants: researchers, stockholders, PhD students, engineering students and master students as well.

- The first keynote in the workshop was given by Dr. Neal Wade from Newcastle University, titled “Introduction to AT-SGIRES project”. The second was presented by Prof. Martin Kaltschmitt from Hamburg University of Technology and entitled “Wind and Solar Energy within the Electricity Supply System of Germany – Achievements, Experiences, Conclusions”. Dr. Hesham Abusaimeh, from Middle East University in Amman, gave a talk on “the Internet of Things (IoT) in training and teaching”.

The topic of “Energy Market, Economics of Energy and Policy” was addressed by Prof. Mohamed Berdai, from Al Akhawayn University. Dr. Zaid Alhalhouli, Tafila Technical University, focused his presentation on Big data analytics in Smart Grid.

Mr. Khalifa El Abdouni from the National Dispatching Center gave a detailed summary regarding the current status of the Moroccan production and electric transportation network. He also addressed the Moroccan renewable energy program presenting the opportunities and the challenges.

Dr. Lakssir Brahim, the Microelectronics Packaging Director, dedicated his talk to the smart grids research carried out at Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research (MAScIR). The last talk was delivered by Dr. El Mrabet Rachid, who is a Call for project & Innovation Director at Research Institute For Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN).

- Later, a dissemination meeting took place at MAScIR in the morning of November 29th 2018, where Representatives of partner institutions involved in the project took part in this activity. After that, a dissemination visit to the National Dispatching Center in Casablanca, In the afternoon, representatives of the consortium visited the national dispatching center and met Mr. Mouchtakiri, director of the center.

- Mr. Mouchtakiri gave the group an overview of the national grid and the mission of the national dispatching center.

- In November 30th 2018, a dissemination visit to the Solar Platforms at Noor in Quarzazate; the AT-SGIRES project’s delegation visited Solar Platforms Noor, managed by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) to raise the awareness about impacts of fossil fuels and to explain the domestic applications of renewable energy.

Workshop on Renewable Energy Employment and TrainingTTU Dissemination November 2018

The workshop on Renewable Energy Employment and Training was held at TTU in Tafila, on November 14th, as part of the AT-SGIRES project dissemination activities. The workshop attracted more than 100 participants: lecturers, researchers, engineer students and master students as well. Three contributions have been presented and followed by discussion.The first keynote address was given by Dr. Zaid Alhalhouli from Tafila Technology University, titled “Introduction to AT-SGIRES project – The future of Renewable Energy and smart grid”. The second was presented by Mr. Mohammad Sarrayrih from Attarat Power Company (APCO) and entitled “Renewable energy Internship Program in APCO”. Ms. Rania Milad, from Attarat Companies in Amman, gave a talk on “Energy production of oil shale by burning”.
