IJ, JIJ & IIS CHRONICLES Message from the Principal Dear Parents, Staff & Students Asslaamualaikum, t Iqra International, we believe that every child has a success story! Our goal is to partner with A families to provide a welcoming and peaceful school environment with high academic expectations and positive student behavior. I am pleased to share that Iqra International has had successful months this far, Alhamdulillah. We hope this will continue further with your extended support. The upcoming month brings a lot of surprises for our enthusiastic learners and our parents. As a school, we are committed to create a learning environment for your child that ensures that all our learners are able to communicate, collaborate, create and think critically at a high level so that students are empowered to become life-long learners. As facilitators we use motivational words like: dream, think, explore, design, create, and communicate while designing learning opportunities for students. We want our students to become problem finders & solution designers. We know that when students are given opportunities to engage in relevant and meaningful work they produce outcomes that far exceed our expectations. A lot of activities have been framed to showcase their inherent skills. We look forward to achieve greater heights. We aspire to build in the self confidence and leadership qualities in our learners. We anticipate the parents’ support and encouragement towards their children so that they display wonders and are successful In shaa Allah. We sincerely extend our gratitude to the parents for their support without which it's difficult to move ahead and grow as an institution. Although we have had unexpected holidays due to various reasons, we still managed to keep up the pace in engaging the students in their active learning. The theme of the month had a great impact in student’s learning and gave them exposure to the various lifestyles, cultures and traditions followed in Indonesia. We have a number of events lined up for students including the Olympiads and Spellathon competitions. Once again we want our Iqranians to practice and prove that sky is not the limit for them. From academics to co-curricular activities, perseverance and a never-say-die spirit are entrenched in the heart of every student not only making them good students but brilliant human beings. Needless to say, the Iqra clubs are in full swing imparting the students that winning and losing are a part of the game. Lastly, I thank our parents for their continuous support in all our endeavors and we wish you keep up the same spirit in helping us serve you and the society at large. Hadith of the Month

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) was asked, "Which is the best deed?" He said, "To believe in Allah and His Apostle." He was then asked, "Which is the next (in goodness)?" He said, "To participate in Jihad in Allah's Cause." He was then asked, "Which is the next?" He said, "To perform Hajj-Mabrur. "

Theme of the Month

ndonesia being home to the world's largest IMuslim population by far is the most important and most powerful country in so-

utheast Asia. Although the country recognizes 5 m a i n r e l i g i o n s ( I s l a m , C a t h o l i c i s m , Protestantism, Hinduism & Buddhism), Islam has been the most influential in the political and social life of the Indonesian people. Considering the fact that Indonesia being a country with majority of Muslim population, we decided to explore more about Indonesia through having a theme of their country.

When traveling between different countries, a passport is required to gain access and cross the country's borders. On the day of the event, students had an activity wherein they had to display their passports to get them stamped. Students of Grades 1 and 2 had set up the immigration desk to stamp passports. Classrooms were decorated with famous personalities of Indonesia, its flag and currency. The event was hosted by students of Grade 6 which started off with Qirath. The event also witnessed students dressing up in different attires of Indonesia. Indonesian culture has historical roots, institutions, customs, values, and beliefs that many of its people share, but it is also a work in progress that is undergoing particular stresses at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Teachers ensured every child was actively involved in participating and the students had great learning outcome from it.

Learning at the Super Market

uring the school year, students hone their skills through a variety of interactive activities. To Denhance the learning experience of grade 6 students, they were taken to a supermarket as a fieldtrip for math and science. In order to make it more practical, the students were assigned

tasks to understand the concept in a better way. The first part of the task was to hunt for things with decimal numbers and the second part of the task was to collect data to calculate the number of years the store had been set up. The field trip gave students first-hand experience interacting with members of the Market community. As a part of the activity, students were divided into small groups and were asked to list products in packaging that can be recycled. Alhumdulillah, students not only took down names of products in packaging that can be recycled but also suggested commercial solutions for same.

Breakfast from around the world- Pancakes

e love it, the kids love it, and just about everyone loves it! Pancakes can be found in many Wcultures around the world. With a view of providing broader perspective to the students of Grade 1 about breakfasts, they were given pancakes to taste. However, the students were

also enlightened on different cultures of the world narrowing down to the breakfasts people from across the world eat. The students were able to relate to the varied cultures and also learnt about how family as a whole connects. The purpose of having them taste pancakes was introducing them to a different style of breakfast which is found to be rare among Indian families.

New experiences at the Dinosaur Park

ield trips help build background knowledge and vocabulary that are important for success in Fschool and life. They are not only fun but they are also valuable learning experiences for thyoung children. On 24 of August a field trip to the Dinosaur Park was organized for the

juniors. From stepping into the vans to reaching the destination, the little ones were excited to find out what was in store for them. On reaching the park, children were shown different kinds of trees and plants around them. The play area was full of zeal and enthusiasm where the children played till they were exhausted. Students of Montessori 1 were accompanied by Montessori 2 and hence social behavior of taking care of the younger ones was very evident. The very next day students of Montessori 3 were taken to the same park. The knowledge gained from the trip was ingrained because the trip coincided with lesson the students were taught.

August,2016 |www.iisb.co|www.facebook.com/IqraInternationalSchoolExploring the Pharmacy

s part of the co-curricular activity, students of Grade 4 visited a pharmacy. The whole purpose of the trip was to Ahave an experiential learning, thereby, to enhance the students' interests in the subject of science to promote a deeper understanding.Today's pharmacies are offering expanded healthcare services in the retail setting and are

also ideal locations to raise disease awareness and deliver educational information at multiple points of contact. The students were eager to see a range of products in the pharmacy; they were shown different forms of medicines like syrup, powder, tablet, ointment and intravenous form after which there was a discussion on the importance of them. Emphasis was laid on the names, composition, dosage, manufacture date and expiry date. The objective of the field trip was to educate the students to avoid over the counter (OTC) purchase of drugs as it is dangerous for our health. The teachers tried to transform the theoretical knowledge into practice in the interest of our students and enhance the teaching – learning process which would help them retain in the long run. This educational trip to pharmacy proved to be one of the instrumental one in realizing the importance of drugs as medicines.

From the students corner- Months of learning

“All these days I used to throw the waste without having a second thought that it could be recycled or reused. After learning this chapter 'Recycling and Reuse', we were taken to the supermarket to see if things can be recycled and after that I started collecting all sorts of junk which are useful. I have planned to make something big out of it.” -Akheel Ahmed, 6 B

“Learning shapes in Math using dough and sticks were real fun. In Islamic studies, we had to do 'Dawa' to teach others about something related to Islam. Now, I am a 'Da'ee.' Theme of the month-Indonesia was hosted by our juniors that included a role play whereas a few of them were dressed up in clothes representing Indonesia.” -Umme Hani, 6 A

“Soup makes me happy. Making soups with my classmates as a part of the lesson's activity involved both fun and learning. As a part of the science learning, we were taken to the Botanical Gardens. We saw a lot of things including dandelions, different kinds of flowers and trees. The most memorable part of the trip was that we were taught how to dissect a flower. For the theme of the month, we were given passports that had to be stamped. I loved the month of August for the fun and activities we had.” -Fatima A.K, 5
