Goals• Easy access to the Internet.• Vulnerability checking of systems before network

access granted.• Limited access for guests/visitors.• Allow ASU affiliates to validate with their ASU

credentials for full network access.• Allow VPN encryption.• Improve security.• Implement quickly.• Community service.

What has been done?• Technology currently employed

– Cisco Access Points• 1200 series AP

• 1400 series AP/bridge

– Cisco Clean Access (formerly Perfigo)• Version 3.3.5

– Provides client scanning before access to Internet.

– Controls the network access based on different user roles.

What has been done? Cont’d• Division of labor:

– City of Tempe provided access to city owned buildings and facilities and helped negotiate access to other buildings not owned by the city.

– ASU provided the installation, hardware, software, configuration, and management of the system.

Current Functionality• User opens a web browser.• The session is redirected to the network logon page.• User enters either an ASURITE UserID or clicks the guest

button.• The machine is scanned by the system (Nessus scan).• If the scan is successful the user is given the appropriate

access for the specific login access.• If the scan fails, they are redirected on how it fix their

access.• Users are directed to an ASU/City of Tempe web page that

gives additional information about the service and/or announcements about events.
