INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “INVESTMENTS IN ENERGY OPTIMIZED TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FOOD SUPPLIES”

The food sector currently accounts for around 30 percent of the world’s total energy consumption. Most of it, is produced outside the farms and mainly from fossil fuels. The consumption of this energy in agri-food chains accounts for almost 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the world. This system is unstable and causes tangible damage to the environment. To address this problem, FAO is implementing the Energy Optimized Food Production Program, aimed at improving access to modern technologies through a gradual transition to renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency.
