K.P.S. Annual Art Show

This week has seen all our students’ art work feature in our annual Art Show, being staged at the Federation Art Gallery. Co-ordinated again by our fantastic Art teacher Ms Rachel Warren, the theme this year has been ‘Global Designs’ and features some unbelievably creative and colourful art work. The amazing thing is that the Art Show features work by every single student at KPS – that’s nearly 400 pieces of work. Rachel has the wonderful knack of being able to inspire such creativity in our students and go back and improve their work to make it something special. Every class will have visited the Art Show by the end of the week and even the children from the Kindergarten have visited the display. They loved the colours and

enjoyed looking for their older siblings’ art work as well!

The Official Opening took place yesterday afternoon. This year our Guest Speaker was local artist Ricardo Alves-Ferreira who spoke to the school community about his journey in the Art world. As well, there was a special feature with a magical dragon making a special appearance in the Gym as part of the Official Opening. Four students art work was highlighted – Dia Vijai’s African necklace, Mia Marcou’s dragon, Thomas Nicholas’s Egyptian necklace and Joel

Cuman’s didgeridoo.

This year’s Art Show again highlighted the exceptional talent and creativity of our Art teacher Rachel Warren. Rachel has been quite unwell in the lead-up to and during this special week. So much so, she has been absent from school on a number of days but is so proud of what the students have created. We must rightfully acknowledge Rachel and her ability to produce another outstanding

K.P.S. Art Show! Thank-you Rachel!

Year 6 Soiree Performance

Every second year, we stage a school production however for a number of reasons we were unable to do it this year. Unfortunately this meant that our Year 6 students didn’t get to have their opportunity to ‘shine’. So with the help of last term’s Music teacher Mr Chris Jobe, our Year 6 students put together a range of musical performances including skits, songs, instrumental items and many more. The Year 6’s did one show for the whole school in the morning and then repeated the show for their families in the late afternoon. Congratulations to all our Year 6 students and former

Music teacher Mr Chris Jobe on their efforts.

Spot Mr Gray’s Spelling Mistake

Good luck spotting my very easy mistake in this report. Please let me

know if you spot my ‘intentional’ spelling mistake!

Regional Athletics

On Tuesday, our Phys. Ed. Teacher, Mrs Shelley Snooks took some 13 students to Moe for the Regional Atheletics Carnival. The event was held in atrocious weather but our students competed to the best of their abilities, performing admirably. A number of our students will now move on to the next level of competition at Albert Park later this term. Congratulations to all those who competed. Please read Mrs

Snooks’ report in next week’s newsletter for further details.

Next Week

We have another big week next week when our H.P.V. team practise after school on Monday at school, our Year 3 students head off to Cowes for their overnight camp on Wednesday & Thursday. On Wednesday, our 2017 Prep students have their next Orientation session. Our Year 4 students also have their Kanga 6’s Cricket Event on Friday, previously postponed due to bad weather. Also on Friday, our Prep students have their fantastic day at the Melbourne Zoo which is always a highlight of our Prep students’ year. Will there be any students left at school on Friday as our Year 5’s head to Phillip

Island Grand Prix Track to watch the Super Bikes up close?

Karmai Alliance Music Camp

On Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th October, many of our Senior students will be taking part in the annual Karmai Alliance Music Camp set to take place at Korumburra Secondary College. This annual event sees students have the opportunity to develop their musical skills in a range of musical fields before they showcase their skills at a concert for their families on Tuesday evening at K.S.C.’s Performing Arts Centre. Good luck to all the students taking part in

this event.

K.P.S. Staffing

This week, there have been interviews for Classroom Teaching positions which will finalise staffing appointments for this term. These will be confirmed by Mr Pirouet in next week’s newsletter. Also, in the coming weeks, interviews will be held to appoint a new Assistant Principal as I am retiring from the Department of Education & Training at the end of this year. I have loved my many years at Korumburra P.S. and will undoubtedly miss the wonderful students and staff at our school. However, my departure will provide opportunities for other staff members and I’m sure that K.P.S. will be in very safe hands. I look forward to my remaining weeks and will certainly enjoy the many activities that we have in the remaining part

of Term 4, 2017.
