Course SLO Assessment MethodDescription Assessment Data & Analysis Actions

SLO #1 - Welding students willproduce quality welds utilizingvarious welding techniques.

Course SLO Assessment Cycle: 2014-15 (Spring 2015)

Course SLO Status: Active

Input Date: 08/19/2014

Standard and Target for Success: •1= Below Average

• 2 = Average• 3 = Above Average• 4 = ExcellentSince this is a intermediate class Iwould only expect 20% to obtain ascore of 4, 75% to score average orabove and 5% to be below average

Faculty Assessment Leader: ReneeNewellFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

null.courseAction: I believe theexpectation for 20% of the class toreceive an excellent rating isunrealistic for an intermediatecourse. I will adjust target forsuccess in next evaluation(10/04/2016)Action Category: SLO/PLOAssessment Process

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard Not MetAccording to AWS standards, no student obtained the andexcellent rating. 75% of the class did receive an averagerating (10/04/2015)

Performance - Using destructive andnon-destructive testing methods, apractical exam weldment will betested per AWS D1.1

Course SLO Assessment MethodDescription Assessment Data & Analysis Actions

SLO #1 - Student will performdestructive test on a qualificationplate exam(guided bend tests).

Course SLO Assessment Cycle: 2014-15 (Spring 2015)

Course SLO Status: Active

Input Date: 08/19/2014Standard and Target for Success:This is a pass-fail outcome. Allstudents are expected to master theconcept. Some students willaccomplish the objective on the firsttry, others may require multipleattempts. This outcome isfoundational and required forstudents to progress in the course

Faculty Assessment Leader: ReneeNewellFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

null.courseAction: Some studentswere either not familiar or afraidof using the equipment withoutsupervision. I will try toincorporate more training on thetesting equipment to ensure allstudents feel comfortable inoperating this equipment(10/04/2016)Action Category: TeachingStrategies

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard MetOut of the 21 students, all were capable of performing test. There were 6 people that needed help from classmates buteventually performed task (10/04/2015)

Performance - Using shopequipment, coupon cutter, grinderand hydraulics test bender, studentwill perform guided bend test on 1"V-groove plate.

Course SLO Assessment MethodDescription Assessment Data & Analysis Actions

SLO #1 Welding Concepts - Studentswill be able to demonstrate basicknowledge of welding concepts.

Course SLO Assessment Cycle: 2014-15 (Summer 2015)

Course SLO Status: Active

Input Date: 11/29/2013

Standard and Target for Success:Students are able to pass the testwith an 90% or higher; level 4,mastery level. Minimum of 50% ofthe class should meet this level.Students are able to pass the testwith an 80% or higher; level 3,strong understanding. Minimum of70% of the class should meet thislevel or get a higher level.Students are able to pass the testwith an 70% or higher; level 2, basicunderstanding. Minimum of 80% ofthe class should meet this level orget a higher level.Students are unable to pass with a70% or higher; level 1, fell short ofunderstanding. Maximum of 20% ofthe class should be at this level.

Faculty Assessment Leader: ReneeNewellFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Renee NewellReviewer's Comments: The standardfor a strong understanding ofwelding concepts was exceeded, however, the mastery level fell shortof the 50% expected. I will try tofocus more on how the electricalpolarity effects the direction of heat.

null.courseAction: The disconnecton mastery level seemed to be onthe electrical conductivities effecton transference of heat. I will tryto focus on this discussion greaterin my lectures and try to develop alab demonstration that highlightsthis difference. (10/04/2015)Action Category: TeachingStrategies

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Summer 2015)Standard Met? : Standard Not MetOf the 21 people tested,7 appeared to have a mastery of the information, level 4,90% or higher.9 showed a strong understanding; level 3, 80% - 89%5 had an basic understanding; level 2, 70% - 79%none fell short of understanding; level 1, below 70%(10/04/2015)

Exam/Test/Quiz - A test with selectquestions on the effects ofoverheating, electrode angle, arclength, operating characteristics offlux covered electrodes was given. These particular questions werehighlighted to determine basicknowledge of weld concepts.

Course SLO Assessment MethodDescription Assessment Data & Analysis Actions

SLO #1 Preparing for CertificationExams - Students will be able tolocate and use charts, index and tableof contents to answer open bookquestions to prepare for the exam.

Course SLO Assessment Cycle: 2013-14 (Fall 2013), 2014-15 (Spring 2015)

Course SLO Status: Active

Input Date: 11/29/2013

Standard and Target for Success: Fora timed test allowing 3 minutes foreach multiple choice question, theexpected passing rate is 70%, theminimum pass rate for the LA Citywritten practice exam.

Faculty Assessment Leader: ReneeNewellFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard Met85% were capable of passing at 70%. The remaining 15%needed more time to complete test (10/04/2015)

Faculty Assessment Leader: ReneeNewellFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Renee NewellReviewer's Comments:

null.courseAction: Suggest a timemanagement class to students, which could help the 13% notmeeting the minimum pass rate of70%. Also, introduce many AWScharts throughout myintermediate course to introducethe importance of the informationbefore they reach this advancecourse. (04/23/2016)

null.courseFollowUp: My averagestayed the same but I had fourstudents with learning disabilitiesthat skewed the results. I willcontinue to give pointers on timemanagement and multiple choicetest strategies (10/04/2015)

Action Category: TeachingStrategies

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2013-14 (Fall2013)Standard Met? : Standard MetA timed test allowing 3 minutes for each multiple choicequestion. 87% of studentscould successfully locate and answer D1.1 Code bookquestions at the expectedpassing rate of 70%. 13% fell below the passing rate of70%. 10% of these studentswho did not meet the minimum pass rate for the LA Citywritten practice examwas due to nerves that result from a timed test, mathematical error in min/maxquestions, or difficulty picking out the subject of wordproblem. The remaining 3%did not invest enough time to mark their book orunderstand the utilization ofcharts to the question being asked. I now introduce manyAWS charts throughoutmy intermediate course to introduce the importance of theinformation before they reach this advance course.(02/27/2014)

Exam/Test/Quiz - Given a timed testallowing 3 minutes for each multiplechoice question, students should beable to successfully locate andanswer D1.1 Code questions at theexpected passing rate of 70%.

null.courseAction: The gas andwater manifold system was notpurged by the contractors and wecontinue to have problems thataffect student learning. Machinesand equipment are constantlydown due to service issues. Isuggest purging the gas and watermanifold system to correct theproblem (10/08/2016)Action Category: Program/CollegeSupport

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard MetDue to moving into a new shop and the gas and watermanifold system not working, many students dropped theclass. Of the 15 that stayed, there was a 100% pass rate.Only the diligent students remained in class (10/08/2015)

Performance - Concepts of torchangle, arc length, gas cfh will bedemonstrated through practicalexams
