2. REGULATIONSTHE REGULATIONS ON CONSTRUCTION WORK AND POOLS ARE CONSTANTLY CHANGING;

ask your city council for the LATEST set of regulations.

Regulations:

• The primary set of regulations will be the zoning laws in each country or area.• Ask your local city council whether pools are subject to planning permission.• Insofar as the priority to be given to various sets of regulations that may apply is concerned, the moststringent must be followed.• Check the regional land-use planning laws and local town planning laws that will affect you. These regulations may overlap in each place. It is therefore advisable that you ask your city council who is able to give you all of the information you need to know.

Architect's report:• The opinion of an architect may be required in the case of listed buildings or locations that are pro-tected by zoning laws.

Health and safety:• Anyone who is in charge of the assembly must have the qualifications requiredto do so.• Should any materials, parts or components that make up the ModuloPool be damaged, they may only be replaced by the manufacturer, an approved service engineer or similarly qualified person in order to avoid any possible health and safety issues.• The health and safety laws in place in any given country or locallymust be respected at all times. • In any event, pools, as is the case of any water feature, must never be placed under an overhead power line and must respect the minimum distance required by law.

Recommendations on assembly:• It is recommended not to use sealing putty for the assembly of this pool. Only use products that have been specifically designed for working with ABS. All-purpose sealants should likewise never be used.

• Under no circumstances may the manufacturer be held liable for the assembly, installation or start-up of any electrical components that have not already been installed in your facility.

Insurance:• According to the country and the insurance policy you hold, you may have to declare the pool to your insurance company. • If this is the case, you will have to accurately describe and submit the following details: pool acces-ses, diving boards, if any, coatings and all of the equipment in general. This document must be extre-mely precise and show all the details of the construction work. This procedure will give you coverage for civil liability in the case that the pool caused anyone an injury.

Tax:• Pools may be subject to tax, in which case you should check with your local tax office.• Besides the actual pool being subject to property tax, the surrounding features such as the decking and the pump room will also be subject to tax.

3. SITEIn this decisive stage, we recommend that you seek the services of an expert. Below you will find all of the information that you need for taking the right decisions.

Aspects to be taken into account when you choose where to install your pool:

Proximity:• If practical considerations are your main concern, a pool that is near the home makes the constant toing and froing between the pool and the house, and keeping an eye on young children easier.

Sunlight:• Observe the sun's path to see in which position the pool will receive the most sunlight at the times that most suit you.• Remember that the sun's position changes from season to season, so although you will probably want to swim in July take into account that you may wish to use your pool in April and September too.

Wind:• Try to ensure that your pool is protected from the wind:

• To prevent the water from getting cold.• To reduce evaporation.• To be able to sunbathe for longer.

Refurbishment:• This may be the time to redesign your terrace and other outdoor garden features. Sometimes it is difficult to do everything at once, but this is the time to design the general outlay of your project.

Vegetation:• Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool:

• They attract and retain the damp. • The fall of leaves and other organic waste (flowers, pollen, etc.) create the need for greatermaintenance.• Think about how trees grow. You are about to build a pool that is to last for many years to come, so remember that trees and their roots will also continue to grow over the next 10 or 20 years.• If there is too much shade, the natural reheating process of water will be slowed down.

Choosing a good site

Positioning:• The extension lines serve as a general point of reference; they are based on the layout of the house in order to do the landscaping. The exten-sion lines will also serve as the basis for the landscaping lines, which must allow for the size of the pool, plus 50 cm on each side.

Landscaping:

• When you decide where level zero will be, you should also start planning for your future deckingaround the pool.• Allowances must be made for the extra space taken up by the thickness of the concrete slabs and the coating you are going to use (reconstituted stone paving, wood, outdoor tiles, etc.).• We also recommend that support columns be fitted: the easiest solution is to use Ø 100 PVC pipes that can be placed all around the excavated area, at intervals of approximately 2 m, and that will then be filled with concrete at the time of pouring.

Layout of level zero:

www.modulopool.com- 10 -

• The final approval for level zero must be given by an expert.• This is the level at which the pool will be built in relation to a given point (terrace, the floor of the house, etc.).• This is a decision that must be taken by an expert as the direction rainwater flows off sloping land must be taken into account. The person who does the digging will advise you on the best possible option.• This level will serve as a benchmark throughout the rest of the building work and care should be taken to ensure that it neither disappearsnor is modified.

Marking:• This will enable you to mark out the exact site of your pool.• Place stakes on the 4 corners of the pool shell (interior angles) and join them using aspray or lime marker.• This is the time to try out any other different layouts.• Once you have made your choice, re-mark the layout if it has changed. In either case, mark a second set of lines around the inner layout at a distance of 50 cm to allow for the area to be dug out.

Your markings will give you an idea of how much space will be taken up. The final markings should be done and approved by the digger driver. She/he will tell you what options are open to you and you must provide her/him with all of the measurements she/requires of you.

Site of the pool shell

The ground:• Check for any rocks, which must be avoided depending of their size.• Choose an area with stable soil (i.e., that has neither been dug up nor filled in) for your site.• Dry soils are the most suitable. In the case of heavy clay soils, you should install a relief well and a full drainage system (see relief well). You should take the same precautions if the land is on a slope in order to overcome the effects of overland flow and rainfall runoff.

Page 11: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 11 -

Channels:• Check for any existing channels in order to avoid them during the excavation work.• Measure and anticipate the distance between your pool and the pump room. Although the distance is not a decisive factor, you should restrict it to save money (on trenches, channels, etc.). However, it should be at least 3.5 metres away from the pool shell.• Make the path as simple as possible; avoid bends.• Pump room. This is a shed, covered area in the garden or a room partially buried in the ground. It is preferable that the level of the floor be just below the level of the pool water, as this is a critical factor in pump priming and performance.

Trench:• We recommend that a trench be dug of 80 cm in depth and 50 cm in width.

4. LANDSCAPINGIt is recommended that landscaping be done by a qualified expert.

Excavation work:• Ensure that the trench to be dug is deep and wide enough to make the construction work viable.

Removing the soil; be prepared! Here are a few ideas:

• Reuse the soil to re-landscape your garden.• Take it somewhere nearby where it can be legally dumped.• Have your digger take it away.

• To calculate the amount of soil that will be left over with some degree of certainty, use a ratio of 1:3 (for example, digging up an area of 40 m3will result in 52 m3of soilbeing dug up).

Think of a way of putting the soil to good use...

Tips: Landscaping is decisive; the expert you choose to do your digging will be able to approve your choice of site and advise you on what to do with the soil.

Relief wells:

• They are essential for whenever you may wish to empty your pool (to change the liner, for example).

• They are necessary for combating the effects of earth tre-mors and groundwater surges, as any vacuums that may form will not be compensated by the volume of water in the pool (Archimedes' principle).

• They are an extremely wise precaution to take that do not costa great deal.

• They drain off any groundwater that may potentially build up:

On land that is habitually saturated. On land that becomes saturated after an exceptional weather event.

Installation of drainage:• Drainage and ballasting. The best way of making the most of your relief well is to put drainage around it and a loop in the middle of the pool shell, which should slope slightly downwards towards the well.

Landscaping:

>THE HOLE TO BE DUG SHOULD BE 1.40 M DEEPMeasure the length and width of the hole at various checkpoints:>Use a dumpy level, if at all possible, to survey the whole of the pool surround from your check-points (there should be 5 on each length, 3 on each width) and 6 in the middle of the pool shell.> Ascertain that level zero is true and the soundness of the framework using the dumpy level.

Reference track:

A reference track will be placed on top of each ModuloPool panel. They should be flat to ensure that structure is properly assembled. These tracks will ensure a constant level throughout and a stable sup-port structure.

• Make a hole that follows the outline of the pool about 10 cm from the edge of the pool that is around 40 cm deep and 3 to 5 cm deep.• Fill this hole with cement, level it and even it off so that it is completely flat and smooth.

5. ASSEMBLY OF SUPPORTS • The supports that are to be placed underneath the panels are supplied unassembled and aremade up of the following parts:

1 62378-0003 - Base stand (2 un)2 62378-0004 - Base socket adjuster (2 un)3 62378-0005 - Base pin adjuster (2 un)

Place the two base socket adjusters on one of the base stands, then fasten the other base stand in place and, finally, screw in the two base pin adjusters into the base socket adjusters.

Screw in all of the base pins at the same height. It is recommended that they be screwed half way down so that they can subsequently be adjusted.

Once all of the bases have been assembled, place ONE at the bottom of each module.

6. ASSEMBLY OF PANELS Assembly of panels is extremely straightforward. Follow themethodbelow to save time.

Method of assembly:

Place the panels close to the pool shell.• They are delivered packed in groups of 3 or 4 to protect them during shipping.

Before you assemble them, they should be separated in order to put them to-gether one by one (which is more effi-cient):

• Remove the fibreglass rods (place them in 2 piles on either side of the pool shell).

• Remove the upper extruded rails (place them in 2 piles on either side of the pool shell).

• Separate each module.

• Lower the panels into the pit and place them around the edges.

Page 16: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 16 -

Before you start to actually assemble the panels, remember to place the special panels with the pre-cut holes for the skimmers (code 62378-0015) and niches(code62378-0016) in their final po-sition in the pool.

• Assemble the panels from left to right (anti-clockwise) starting in one of thecorners and working up one of the lengths of the pool shell.

Start by assembling a set of three panels.

This assembly process is very intuitive and you will quickly get the hang of it:

• Place one panel at 45º to the next one.• Interlock the panels together.• Turn the panel 45º so that it is parallel to the next one.

45º

Page 17: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 17 -

• Slide in 3 fibreglass rods for each set of 3 panels.

› Insert them into one of the holes leaving the following two empty, in staggered formation in relation to the first ones so that they overlap by 5 cm.

• Assemble 3 more panels and insert the fibreglass rods.

› Remember to insert them in alter-nate fashion so that they overlap and the ends stick out from the end of the post.

Follow this method until 2 panels form the first corner of the pool shell.

• Insert the fibreglass rods into the panels and thread hem through the panels that have already beenassembled.• Join the missing 2 panels and the outer corner panel together. Then slide the fibreglass panels that have been mounted through the preceding panels.

Continue with the assembly of the panels until only 2 remain to be assembled before the whole of the pool is lined.

• Put the last outer corner panel into place.• Fasten a panel to the corner panel.• Slide the fibreglass rods through this panel and the corner panel, ensuring they stick out at the ends.• Add the last straight panel. When you have managed to do so, slide in the fibreglass rods so that they join this final set of panels. THIS FINAL STEP IS COMPLEX.

Note: Once the whole outer edge of the pool is lined with panels, attach 2 fastening wrenches (code 62378-0010) to each corner.

5 cm

Page 18: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 18 -

If you are going to put a PVC liner in place, attach the 4 inner corner panel mounts:

• Place them top side up.

• Screw in three screws down the upright side so that they are firmly attached to the back panels.

• Put the extruded rails in place (code 62378-0007) in order to hang the liner around the whole of the structure.

Fasten them to the upper part of the panels and use a mallet to join them together.

Important: Proceed with special care as the mallet could damage the rails.

Tip:• If you are going to put a PVC liner or a thin linerin place, it is recommended that adhesive tape be stuckto the joints between the panels so that they do not show once the pool is full of water.• This step will not be necessary if you are going to use a reinforced liner.

7. INSTALLATION OF ACCESSORIES The time has now come to install the various accessories of your pool's filtration system, namely, the:

• Skimmer• Sump • Spotlight niches• Return nozzles• Suction nozzles

Depending on the size and design of your pool, you will be able to add different units to each accessory.

Tips:

• Skimmer: Put the skimmer opening and main body in place, and connect using rigid piping, as explai-nedin the instruction manual.Cover the opening so that the concrete does not dirty it.Once the liner is in place, the assembly of the skimmer can be completed.

• SumpPut the sump's main body in place and connect using rigid piping, as explained in the ins-truction manual.Cover the opening tightly so that the concrete does not dirty it. Once the liner is in place, the assembly of the sump can be completed.

• Spotlight nichePlace the niche in the pre-cup hole in panel 62378-0016 and connect using flexible piping, as explained in the instruction manual.Cover the niche tightly so that the concrete does not dirty it. Once the liner is in place, the assembly of the niche can be completed.

• Return and suction nozzlesMake a hole in the panel where they are to be placed. Insert the nozzles and connect using rigid piping, as explained in the instruction manual.Cover the main body of the nozzles tightly so that the concrete does not dirty them. Once the liner is in place, the assembly of the nozzles can be completed.

First of all, distribute the ruler braces (1) all around the upper part of the structure and place a corner piece (2) on each corner.

Then place the rulers (3) of different lengths until they go around the whole edge of the pool.

The rulers should be placed so that they overlap.

Finally, the quick release clamps (4) should be used to stabili-se the structure by clamping them to the ends of the rulers and the corner pieces.

Levelling:

• To adjust the structure's level, loosen or tighten the pa-nel base pins, as may be necessary.

• Using your spirit or laser line level, check the level at va-rious pointson all sides of the pool shell and adjust the level accordingly.

90º angles:• Use string to mark diagonal lines from the corners of the pool floor.

• Check that all of the walls are at 90º angles and fasten the corner base pins.

• To ensure that all of the panels along one wall are perfectly alig-ned, stretch a piece of string from one corner to another along the pool floor.

• Adjust the structure according to the results of the measurements taken.

Page 22: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 22 -

• Repeat the process on all 4 walls or all around the pool.

• Secure the base pins of the corner panels to the ground using nails or Ø 6 mm screws and wall plugs (not supplied).

• Check the outer edge of the pool shell and ensure that all of the exterior base pins are firmly secured to the ground and tighten them if necessary.

Alignment:Once all of the panels' base pins have been secured, check the vertical alignment around the whole edge of the pool. Then proceed to secure the upper part of the structure.

We recommend screwing two strips of wood on both sides of each corner before you go on to secure the top of each panel. You should proceed as follows:

• Screw a strip of wood to the top of the panels.

• Use the plumb line to adjust the vertical align-ment and firmly secure the panels to the ground using anchor stakes.

• Make a final check of all levels and alignments.

Page 23: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 23 -

Securing:

• The idea is to prevent the structure's stable position from moving (due to the wind, accidental knocks, etc.), contain it during the concrete pour and ensure that it resists the weight of the concrete once pou-red while it is drying.

• Fasten the cover flanges (62378-0054) to the top of the panels 3 metres apart (at the very most) and put the stabilisers (62378-0053) in place.

Once in place, adjust the stabilisers so that all of the panels are level and stable.

The structure should now be taut, aligned and levelled on every side.

9. IRON WORKThe ironwork turns the concrete into reinforced concrete, which is particularly resistant to stress and strain. The ironwork at the top and at the bottom should fit seamlessly around the whole edge of the pool.

You will only have been supplied with upright supports (62378-0008), which should be inserted through the top of each ModuloPool panel.

Page 24: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

www.modulopool.com- 24 -

The following will have to be purchased separately:• A sheet or several sheets of iron mesh (Ø 7 mm) large enough to cover the whole of the pool's floor.• Ø 12 mm rods to be placed in the panels' upper trough. • U-shaped Ø 8 mm rods 1.2 m long; one will be needed for each panel.• Metal wire for tying the rods.

On the upper part of the ModuloPool panelsInsert the upright supports (62378-0008) into the cavity of each panel.

Place two Ø 12 mm rods in each trough and tie them to the supports using the me-tal wire.

Remember that the rods should cross over each other on each corner.

At the lower part of the ModuloPool panels

Slide a Ø 12 mm rod between the base pins of the panels.

Also place a Ø 12 mm rod around the inner edge of the whole pool.

Place the iron mesh across the pool floor. It should be rai-sed by about 5 to 8 cm off the ground as the concrete to be poured in should completely surround the mesh. Lay the mesh on bricks so that it is all at the same level.

Once the mesh on the pool floor is in place, cut out the mesh to leave room for the sump.

Page 25: Assembly and installation manual · 2017-11-22 · • Trees are wonderful, but you will appreciate them more if they are far from your pool: • They attract and retain the damp

10. POURING THE CONCRETE• It is important to respect the characteristics of the type of concrete you are going to use. The resistance of your pool shell will depend on this and your warranty will be subject to the concrete you use having been properly handled. This operation should be carried out by a professional concrete pourer or mason.

Tips:• It is often difficult to get a concrete mixer close to the site where the pool is being built. In such cases use a concrete pump, which your concrete supplier should provide. • It has the added advantage that all of the posts around the pool can be filled exactly to the right level and that the process is convenient thanks to the hose.

Safety margin:• The recommended thickness of the bed is 15 cm; if more than this depth had been left for the bed, it should be topped up with a layer of gravel.• If it rains, the operation should be called off.• If there is water at the bottom, it should be suctioned off. If the land is still very muddy in spite of all the precautions taken, it is advisable to cover it with a sheet of plastic to prevent the concrete from mixing with the mud.

Pool floor bed Preparation:

• Clear the pool surround in order to work unhindered.• Check that there is enough room for a concrete mixer.• Prepare your tools: • A trowel for smoothing the cement.

• A bucket for carrying the cement for the finish.• A bucket of water and a large sponge.• A spirit level.

Use tape to protect the whole of the extruded rail for hanging the liner (code 62378-0007), as well as other components in the pool such as skimmers, niches and sumps, so that holes are not filled in when the concrete is poured.

Concrete pour:• The posts with ironwork must be filled first. The consis-tency of the concrete should be such that it flows easily.

1.- Filling the posts and trench:• The concrete should first be poured into the trench and from there itflows into the first post.• Use the level checkpoints to ensure that the level of the concrete in the posts is even. • Pouring the concrete should be fast and easy.• If a post does not fill easily, this means that the con-crete is not the right consistency.• The concrete should be stirred from time to time to ensure it trickles in-between the iron rods.

THE USE OF ANY KIND OF HYDRAULIC OR ELECTRIC VIBRATORIS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

• Smooth the concrete in the trench so that it is level in order to facilitate the subsequent laying of the coping.

• Follow this method all around the pool.• If any concrete is left over (recommended safety margin), pour it onto the floor.• Sponge the walls down so that work can go ahead in a clean workspace.

2.- Filling the bed:

• The concrete should be poured over the whole surface starting on one side and from there it should gradually be spread across the rest of the surface.• Use your spirit level to get the level absolutely right and proceed to smooth down the surface.• The concrete should cover between 1 and 2 cm of the bottom of the ModuloPool panels.

• Sponge down any concrete that may have splashed onto the walls before it dries.

IMPORTANT: Getting out of the pool shell:

• You should have put a ladder or stool in the shell so that you can climb out of it.• Marks will be left where you placed the ladder or stool on the bed. Once the concrete has dried, you should add a little more to cover the marks. Check for one last time that the concrete is abso-lutely level and look over the site to ensure that the weight of the concrete has not made any of the surface sag below the general level.

Drying:The minimum drying time of the type of concrete used and the provisions of the specific terms and conditions must be adhered tobefore any further work can go ahead.

11. FILLING AND CLEANING The fastening and securing system can now be removed, that is:

Adjustable stabilisersCover flanges on thestabilisersQuick release clamps Aluminium rulers Corner piecesAluminium ruler braces

For backfilling UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES:• Use sand or earth as the backfill will subside in 2 to 3 years.• Use stones or rocks,as they could damage the structure and do not serve as proper shoring.

• Use 6/10 crushed gravel. Protect all piping!

• This gravel will provide the best possible shoring.• Gravel IMPROVES drainage on alllandscaped sites.• The thickness of the gravel halves the pressure of the soil around the pool basin, and is therefore equal to the pressure of the water in the pool.

When you backfill the pool surround, do so very carefully with 6/10 crushed gravel using a spa-de.

Procedure:

• Shovel the gravel in all around the pool using a SPADE. Once filled, just pat it down with your foot.

• Cleaning:

• After shoring the structure, you can remove the strips of wood used to secure the panels. You can then go on to cleaning the pool shell and surround.

12. FITTING THE LINER ANDCONNECTING THE FILTERThe pool's liner should be fitted by a specialise-dcompany. The ModuloPool system will make attaching the liner to the upper part of the pa-nels a straightforward process.

• The gravel on the pool floor and walls should be cleaned off and all tools used on site removed.

• In order for the fitting of the liner to go smoothly, it must be done when it is a sunny day and it is not raining and when it is at least 18 ºC. Prepare the pool shell with utmost care:

• Start by thoroughly cleaning the pool shell. Ensure that every inch is perfectly clean by sweeping and hoovering every single speckof dirt.

• Check that there is no gravel or roughness on the floor, as well as ensuring that no unwanted excess concrete remains.

• At this stage, thorough cleaning is of prime importance as the water in the pool once filled will make any blemishes on the floor look unsightly and could damage the liner.

Self-levelling materials

• Experience has shown that rough surfaces often remain on the pool floor, which meansthat the liner cannot be fitted.

› We recommend using a self-levelling product. Ready-prepared products can be foundat any DIY store. Using such products will ensure that the surface of the pool floor will be per-fectly smooth.

• The only work to be done on the pool walls is to fill any small holes with a filler.

Fitting the liner:

There are two types of liner:

1. PVC liners. If this system is used, the ModuloPool inner corner panel mounts must have been fitted beforehand.

2. Reinforced liners. This system does not require the inner corner panel mounts.

NOTE: Once the liner has been fitted, the skimmer, spotlights, sump and nozzles can be installed. All such accessories must be fitted exactly as described in the instruction manual.

CONNECTING THE FILTER

Our pools are designed to accommodate a filtration system. Therefore the pool shell will have the con-nection points for the following accessories:

• Skimmer• Sump• Return and suction nozzles

All of these features should be connected using rigid or flexible piping to a pump room where the filter and the corresponding switchgears should also be housed.

13. FILLING THE POOL WITHWATER AND THE COPINGThe pool will have been partly filled when the liner was fitted to ensure a proper fit.

You can now fill the pool up to 10 cm from the edge.

Before you do so, we recommend that you put the coping in place.

Below are some tips

• Start by laying the coping stones on one of the shortest pool sides. When you adjust and align them, take special care with the corners.

• Overflow suction nozzle. This is normally placed 1 cm from the base of the coping, but this is up to you.

• For the space of the joints between the slabs, we recommend a width of 5 mm.

• The coping stones should never be laid without joints due to the problemsthat this poses (stains, penetration of water, etc.).

• The corner slabs will probably have to be cut for an exact fit.

• Dampen the bottom of the slabs before you lay them.

• Regularly check the alignment of the inside edge of the coping (use a plumb line or laser spirit level).

EFFLORESCENCE

• Efflorescence is a whitish-blue crystalline deposit that sometimes formson the surface of concrete.• This natural phenomenon is due to the high lime content in cement that is drivenup to the surface by rainwater. When the lime comes into contact with the air, a chemical reaction takes place that turns it into calcium carbonate.• These stains do not alter the quality of the concrete. Efflorescence is the result of a natural chemical reaction and is not covered by the warranty, nor does it entitle customers to a repla-cement or refund.
