Ashley Rockwood of Giordano Jazz Dance comes to the area!

Ashley Rockwood Ashley discovered a love for dance at the age of 2 at Daryl Jervis Dance Studio in Toledo, OH. She would later realize she was learning the Giordano Technique in her jazz class. Ashley went on to receive a B.A. in dance from Point Park University with a concentration in Jazz. There she worked with world-renowned choreographers Ron de Jesus, Lauri Stallings, Kiesha Lalama, and Doug Varone. Upon college graduation she became a member of Giordano II for the 2007 – 2008 season. Following she was offered a company spot and is now in her fifth season with Giordano Dance Chicago. As a member of the Actor’s Equity Association she has been in the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera’s productions of “42nd Street”, “Music Man”, “Hello Dolly!” and “Me and My Girl”. Also a member of AGMA, Ashley was the principal dancer/understudy in the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production of “Showboat”. She has just choreographed and

staged her first musical “The Christmas Schooner” at the University of Wisconsin Osh Kosh. Ashley is very passionate about working with and teaching today’s youth. Since joining the company she has taught the Giordano outreach programs at Helen Peirce Elementary, Goudy Elementary, and Swift Elementary. Most recently Ashley was seen performing with Beyonce on Oprah’s Last Show Surprise Spectacular and the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. She believes very strongly that the more you know, the better you will be and as artists we should always expand our horizons.
