Preface:

Princeton Design Collaborative (PDC) is proud to introduce 360VIEW. Each edition of this online publication will highlight an individual

project designed by PDC. It is hard to believe that just over two years ago Princeton Design Collaborative opened its doors for business. PDC was not an overnight development—but one that was carefully planned during the span of over a year.

Our group evolved, grew, changed and matured before we of-ficially opened for business. We do not think of ourselves as a

group, organization or business, but as a “Professional Family” of designers. The key to our success is found in our family. We

work in unison, assist one another and push ourselves to exceed the client’s expectations when it comes to their design needs,

giving them a personal touch.

We are proud of our accomplishments and the recognition we have received in the publications: Fine Homebuilding, Atomic Ranch and HOUZZ.com. On HOUZZ we have been featured twice, highlighted on five separate occasions, and for the third year running, winning BEST of HOUZZ. This year we have gained the distinct honor as the only Mercer County design firm to win both “Best of Design” and “Best in Satisfac-tion” from this leading global design social media site. As we enter our third year, we thought this would be an appropriate time to share the project that launched us into the commercial world of design. The success of this particular project has recently been affirmed; the great-est compliment a client can provide is a request to do another project.

This corporate headquarters is situated in a Class-A speculative office building along the route one corridor in Princeton New Jersey. Shortly after committing to stay at their current location for another decade, Rockwood decided it was time to make some improvements and solve a few technical prob-lems within their space—a major issue for employees was glare problems on computer monitors cause by poor task lighting without dimming capabilities.

Employees started to disconnect bulbs within ceiling fixtures to alleviate the problem. Other concerns were some offices were too hot, lack of privacy with a few key open workstations at the executive area and a desire to update the general appearance of the space.

PDC collaborated with several consultants and venders to deliver a solution that went beyond client expectations. New millwork office fronts where created for a few of the open workstations, and were integrated within existing millwork of executive offices. The Lobby was furnished with updated furniture and wall finishes that enhanced the corporate image. The offices were given a fresh coat of no VOC paint with accent walls to add color and give the space needed interest.

New LED fixtures spread light effectively at ceiling plane to give an overall brighter ap-pearance to the entire space.

New light fixtures use less than half the wattage of pre-vious flourescent fixtures.

After

The existing fluorescent lighting was replaced with LED fixtures that fit into existing grid locations with ability to dim, and also an added feature of daylight harvesting. These changes not only solved the glare issue, but distributed light across the ceiling to create a brighter, friendlier atmosphere; saving an averaged of twenty-five percent on their electric bill. The new fixtures are fully warranted for the life of their lease. Window film was added to the south facing offices solved the problem of overheating without increasing cooling loads on the HVAC equipment.
