The German high-tech company was founded in

Krailling (near Munich) in 2007 by four pioneers

of UAV technology: Dipl.-Ing. Michael Achtelik,

Klaus-Michael Doth, M.Sc., Dipl.-Ing. Daniel

Gurdan and Dipl.-Ing. Jan Stumpf. Today they are

still the managers and owners of the company.

With the invention and development of the

Silverlit X-UFO in 2002, the national winners of

the Jugend forscht* (young researchers) com-

petition, Gurdan and Doth laid the foundations

for the international hype that would envelop

the quadcopter and multi copter. Teaming up

with Achtelik and Stumpf, also prize winners at

the Jugend forscht competition, the technology

was perfected so as to enable the development

of their own production series. They remain a

trendsetter in the UAV market.

After all, in 2010 they set the world record

for long flights of mini UAVs with 12 hours 26

minutes and 56.9 seconds: The AscTec Pelican

from the AscTec Research Line for universi-

ty research was kept permanently charged

during the flight by a laser beam – and could

have kept flying indefinitely. Collaboration with

NASA-financed specialists from LaserMotive

LLC made it possible.

plishes pioneering work in the area of sensor

data processing and flight attitude stabilization

with a clear focus on professional applications

of the flight systems in the civilian sector. In

2013, a cooperation with e-volo meant that

they made headlines again. e-volo used the

brand new market-leading centerpiece of our

technology, the AscTec Trinity control unit, to

make possible the maiden flight of Volocopter

VC200 on November 17, 2013 in Karlsruhe and

to make aviation history.

AscTec Trinity is the first fully adaptive control unit (autopilot)

with up to 3 levels of redundancy for multi­rotor flight systems.

Using the AscTec Trinity, the AscTec Falcon 8 Octocopter UAV for professional, civil use, is

even more efficient and safe in daily operation now. The new autopilot "AscTec Trinity" is a

complete new development based on Ascending Technologies’ 12-years-experience of inno-

vation and progress in the field of multi-rotor systems.

The AscTec Trinity is a triple redundant flight control, which is standard in commercial air liners

to ensure maximum safety. Errors in flight critical attitude sensors can be identified by automatic

data comparison with two redundant units. The same applies to all communication systems re-

levant for control. Due to the adaptive flight control your AscTec Falcon 8 will stay up in the air as

long as the laws of physics allow it. The UAV automatically compensates for sudden or enduring

disturbances and will actively support the pilot to control the system.

Another further advantage of the AscTec Trinity is the improved positioning accuracy and

the better robustness against weak signals. This precision can even be guaranteed while

flying at high velocity and high dynamics. External influences like magnetic interference will

not affect flight performance, and the camera will always be exactly aligned with its desired

orientation. You can put your trust into the flight system no matter, what you do; inspection,

surveying and/or any other aerial imaging. The AscTec Falcon 8 will strictly follow your input

and even react to external conditions before you may be aware of it.

Mobile Ground Station; and at the same time absolute freedom of movement.

the AscTec Falcon 8.

As one of the largest Ger-

man institutes, the Jülich

Research Center is devoted

to bio sciences and geo-

sciences. A team of around

150 scientists all have one

objective: In times of climate

change and population

growth, to increase the har-

vest yields many times over

to ensure the population can

be fed in the long-term. For

this reason they observe the

plants under the ground,

on the ground and, with the

AscTec Falcon 8 from the

air. After all the testing in the

laboratory comes the acid
