Page 2: AS A RESULT OF A SEASON LONG CULMINATION OF EXCITING

ARROWHEAD is quiet.

Our campers have all gone back to school.

Our staff has gone back to work.

And our parents have gone back to their routines.

ARROWHEAD is hibernating…

The trees are bare ,

The grass is brown,

The playground is silent,

The pools are covered,

The mess hall is closed,

The ball fields are inactive,

The lake is still.

ARROWHEAD is quiet because Mother Nature sleeps.

But we are all dreaming of the summer of 2018 when it blooms alive with…

The campers playing and laughing,

The staff interacting,

The trees in full bloom,

The swings swinging,

The pools splashing

The fish biting,

The mess hall filled with hungry campers,

The ball fields active and the grass turning green.

We can’t wait to enliven our senses, arrive at ARROWHEAD and seize the days!

Enjoy the rest of your winter…only 5 more months until summer and the first day of

camp!

Here’s to a very healthy, happy, prosperous and peaceful new year!!!!!!

Green and White the perfect team.. Arrowhead 2018

Yours for better camping-

Uncle Brian Witt

Junior Camp With everyone settled back at school, I

continue to reflect on the 2017 camp season. Even though the weather dictated the 2017 camp schedule, the campers and counselors could still be seen with big smiles throughout the campgrounds. Many Junior campers had milestones throughout the summer, such as passing their deep water test, getting their canoeing license, or going down the zip-line for the first time. The Junior Camp had a resurgence at mini golf, with a whole new course updated this summer. Many campers experienced their first hole-in-one on our new course. Junior Campers loved the special Friday shows, such as David Darwin, George the Magician, the Disco, and Jumping Jamie. The campers also enjoyed our special events like Halloween Day, the Dance Recital, Junior Olympics, and for the first time ever the Junior Campers participated in the Road Runner Race! What I miss most is walking around camp and seeing all the Junior Campers happily participating at Batting Cages, Nature Study, or Music and Dance. I want to thank the Junior Staff for an incredible summer. I know June 2018 is just around the corner, and I can’t wait for another amazing summer. Enjoy the rest of your school year, and see you soon! AUNT CARRIE CHAITT

Intermediate Camp The summer of 2017 was fabulous in Intermediate Camp! ARROWHEAD campers like to be active, and Intermediate Camp has so much to offer! The campers were busy, busy, busy all summer long! With our club day selection increasing to include more and more activities, and our sports leagues rotating to include several sports… there is no time to get bored at ARROWHEAD DAY CAMP. The campers loved having the options to build their schedules with club day…. And we had some very popular activities this year like Scuba Diving, Face Painting, Graffiti Art, “Build a Bear”, Jewelry Making, Pioneering, Culinary Arts, Marksmanship, Nature Study, and Arts & Crafts! With more sessions of each club offered, we worked to make the schedule so that all campers had the opportunity to get their first choices! Intermediate Campers are also involved in the Road Runner Race, our Summer Show “Disney Spectacular”, the Scavenger Hunt, Color War, and the Land and Sea Carnivals! The Special Friday PM Show was also a great hit for our campers with magic, animals, music, and drama…. Those shows gave us time to put our feet up and relax at the end of a busy camp week! We also have a wonderful staff that makes sure that our campers are having a great time every day! With everything going on at ARROWHEAD DAY CAMP we should make the summer last all year long! I can’t wait to see everyone again next summer! The summer of 2018 is sure to be fabulous as well!

AUNT KRISTEN CHENEY

Senior Camp Happy New Year. Welcome to 2018 and I hope this is a year when dreams come true for every Arrowhead senior camper. On this brutally cold day I am thinking back to the amazing summer of 2017 and the fun that we had. It is certainly uplifting to know that in less than 6 months we will get to do it again. The summer of 2017 was loaded with memories, most specifically of the fantastic senior campers, junior counselors and counselors. The senior campers were at the top of their games in 2017, exhibiting sportsmanship, amazing behavior and unparalleled skills on the athletic fields and in all the other aspects of camp. Our league season was fantastic. As usual, the boy's softball league provided great drama and defined the spirit of competition. The girl's GAGA/Newcombe/Kickball league had its share of great moments as well. Also, a big thanks to Uncle Chris and Uncle Kyle for their Sixers and Flyers Basketball League which literally went down to the last minute of overtime. Club Day once again provided a diverse set of activities for our campers. The campers also had the unique opportunity to be part of a baseball clinic run by Delaware County baseball legends Dave Splain, Matt Eiel and Rob Straff. They enjoyed working with you all so much that they want to come back and do it again in 2018. Our end of the year activities included the always memorable Pentathlon, MTV Day, Roadrunner Races and of course, Color War. Despite a few rainy days, each of those activities went off perfectly and provided high drama and reaffirmed the spirit of competition. It was pleasure to watch all of these events. A huge thank you to Uncles Kyle, Chris, Jerry, Kyle H as well as Aunts Abby, Jennifer, Stephanie and Cara for all of your incredible work. None of this can be done without the time you put in and your efforts are all greatly admired and appreciated. Also, a special thank you to our fantastic senior camp junior counselors who added hard work, smiles and fun to every camp day. Lastly, an everlasting thank you to all of my wonderful campers...YOU are the reason why Arrowhead is the best and the reason I look forward to the first day of camp every year. Have a great finish to your school year and we will see you in the Summer of 2018!! UNCLE RANDY STRAFF

TRANSPORTATION After 62 summers of getting campers to and from camp safely every day, we are proud to say Arrowhead’s transportation system is going strong. While most people don’t see “behind the curtain” of our transportation procedures, we start planning strategies long before the season begins. We work tirelessly all spring reading maps, satellites and computer programs to ensure our transportation routes are convenient and safe for our campers. We also hire professional staff members to drive our vehicles as well as our bus counselors. The most up-to-date means of transportation (large bus and fourteen passenger vans) are used and tailored for effective pickup in a variety of communities. It is important to us that we remember what didn’t work well last summer and make sure to address it for the current summer. Most importantly, we insist on practicing until all the routes run perfectly. With this commitment, we will get your children to camp safely in the shortest possible time. I hope all of you come out for our new season. See you in 2018! AUNT JULIE GILBERT

FOOD FOR THOUGHT After 62 summers of feeding our happy campers, I can truly say the Mess Hall is the place at camp where everyone comes together. Our campers and staff still enjoyed chowing down on classics like French bread pizza and grilled cheese, and also couldn’t get enough of some of our newer menu additions! We are very conscious to make sure we are adding healthy options to our menu. Lunch would not be possible without Aunt Jackie, who took pride in seeing everyone enjoy their daily meal, Uncle Jacob's hot dog skills and expertly crafted bug juice, Uncle Son's super fluffy fluff sandwiches, and of course our amazing cooks who are, as we sing every year at color war songfest, "really cool." I have enjoyed watching the happy campers eat and savor their meals just as much as I did when I was a camper. The mess hall is the place where everyone comes together to share meals and make memories. It has been an honor and a privilege to preserve this camp tradition.

AQUATIC UPDATE

As the approach of the 2018 summer

season nears, ARROWHEAD’S pool staff is feeling the anticipation of another fabulous summer. The swim schools are awaiting the arrival of new and returning swimmers and the water slides and diving boards are hoping to see the excited faces of all those Deep Water Swimmers. The instructional morning program uses the best teachings & techniques from the American Red Cross. We have 10 swim schools; teaching strokes from beginner through intermediate and up to advanced. As children progress through our system, swim cards are mailed home to show parents the skills mastered by your child. Children use their skills learned in the morning during afternoon swim, which is filled with fun as our intermediate and advanced swimmers use the water slides and diving board. Beginning swimmers gain confidence as they see how much fun the water can be. We especially enjoy club periods where campers come to play fun games with our lifeguards. The addition of aqua ping pong this summer was a huge hit! Keep safe and stay well. See you very soon! POOL DIRECTORS

OVERNIGHT WEEKENDS

We were thrilled with the campers’ enthusiasm for Arrowhead's overnight weekends during the summer. Boys and girls aged 7 and older all enjoyed bonding over the authentic overnight camp experience. Activities included night swims, ga-ga tournaments, scavenger hunts, movie nights, bunk talent shows and of course, campfires with s'mores!! It was truly a joy to watch campers of all ages really get close and form a tight-knit little community while making memories we hope stay with them a lifetime. We are grateful to our staff, campers, and parents who made the second summer of overnight weekends such a success! Looking forward to next year!

Your trust and confidence is endearing to all of us!

ARROWHEAD ENROLLMENT CLUBS- “ROLL ON”

It’s hard to believe but this past summer marked the 33rd

anniversary of our

super popular enrollment clubs.

sleepovers- whatever!

*5-year club- these lucky campers attending ARROWHEAD 2013 thru 2017

4th Annual AL GILBERT Commemorative Founder's

Award

To the senior campers who best represent what ARROWHEAD is all about. The nominees this summer were:

EAGLES: Danny Oltman

PHILLIES: Caden Shuster

FLYERS: Dylan Friedland

SIXERS: Brady Boucher

EMERALDS: Ava Bell

OPALS: Madeline Bonhomme

PEARLS: Hannah Casey

SAPPHIRES: Maia Rissi

And the WINNER was…. Brady Boucher of the SIXERS for his exemplary campership; his essay below was judged the best by our directors. QUESTION # 1): What does ARROWHEAD mean to me? ARROWHEAD means so much to me. Ever since the first day I entered the Mustangs 8 years ago, I knew this was something special, and how I would want to spend my summers for as long as possible. As the years went by, how I spent my time making new friends, and doing fun activities, I will always give my all for ARROWHEAD. It’s always been my dream job as a teen to be a JC, and so I can spend as much time here as I can. QUESTION # 2): What can I do to make ARROWHEAD a better camp? Aside from having a great time here, my mission is making the camp better each day that I come in. Number one is just making sure everyone is always happy here and friendly with each other. If someone is maybe being left out or distant from the others, I’ll try to introduce them to the other campers. I even clean up the bunk every day to make sure that we can win bunk inspection. But overall, I just always have to know that the campers here can have the best camp experience as possible.

OUR SINCEREST CONGRATULATIONS TO BRADY! WE ARE ALL

EXTREMELY PROUD OF THIS SPECIAL ACCOMPLISHMENT!

COLOR WAR This summer, Color War at ARROWHEAD was Amazing! The week started with our regular

schedule, and everyone wondered “Was Color War forgotten??” But no…. on Tuesday Fire

Trucks arrived with sirens blaring to let us know that Color War had begun. Our sponsors

(donned in theme costumes) rode in on the trucks and threw water balloons and blasted water

guns to give everyone a “cool” start to our week of activities. Once in the courtyard, campers

were divided into two teams: GREEN : MINIONS and WHITE: SMURFS! It was an exciting

week of fun activities, and the score volleyed back and forth between the two teams all week.

Everything was decided on Friday afternoon during the Song Festival, and the Smurfs pulled off

an upset win to end the week. A great time was had by all, and we look forward to the next

Native American Day

Junior Campers enjoyed an Arrowhead tradition of Native American day the 7th week of camp this year. Arrowhead staff members helped the campers make necklaces & feather headdresses, had their faces painted, and played Native America Games. Chief Arrowhead came by juggling, telling Native American stories, and making campers smile and laugh. After Chief Arrowhead left, each bunk participated in a parade, where they showed off their unique Native American poster. Everyone had a great time!

PAJAMA DAY

Who says you can’t wear your pajamas to camp? Another Arrowhead tradition allows campers to wear their pajamas to camp, hear stories from their counselors, and even enjoy a midmorning breakfast in the Mess Hall. Everyone looked comfy and happy in their pajamas, even the counselors! It was a wonderful morning in Junior Camp that day!

MTV DAY

For the second year in a row, the Amphitheater provided the setting for the 2017 MTV Day. The competition was great and the senior camp girls gave their all. At the end of the competition the Sapphires were declared the winners by our esteemed panel of judges for their work on the Sweet Caroline Medley. A big congratulations goes out to all who performed.

Page 10: AS A RESULT OF A SEASON LONG CULMINATION OF EXCITING

Road Runner Race

During the seventh week of camp, we held our annual Road Runner Race. The fastest campers

from each bunk were chosen to put on their “track shoes” and run against other competitors in

their same age group. It was a beautiful day for a race, and everyone participating did a great

job! Special thanks to the counselors who ran in the counselor race.

PENTATHLON Once again, the Pentathlon proved to be one of the highlights of the end of the summer. The Pentathlon is a true test to even the most well tuned athletes. The competition includes a series of events...swimming, running and boating. The participants began their journey at Uncle Dave's pool where they swam two laps. They then ran towards the lake and competed on the canoe course. Once the boats docked the participants then ran to Uncle Joel's Archery range to compete before the winner was decided at Uncle Harry's Marksmanship range. As usual, the races were unbelievably close and a big congratulation goes out to all of the competitors for a job well done!

Intermediate leagues Once again Intermediate Camp leagues proved to be a fun and exciting part of the camp day! Bunks were divided between 6 teams with Counselor and Junior Counselor coaches. This year the girl groups were named after Gemstones, and the boy groups were named after Spongebob characters. Sports rotated between Soccer and GaGa, and the competition was fierce all summer long. Team Jade took the trophy for the girls, and Team Mr. Krabs won it all for the boys. Everyone did a super job, and win or lose…. Everyone was a winner!

It seems our campers have been quite busy since camp ended. Everything from vacation

trips to extracurricular activities. Many thanks to all campers who responded; it was

great to hear from you. Now read ahead to find out what your friends and bunkmates

have been up to!!!!!!

WINTER, 2018

GIRLS SQUABS PENNY PIPICH is ruling the school from her Agnes Irwin Pre-K class, as I'm sure no one at

Arrowhead will be surprised to hear. ;)

ROBINS MORGAN MONTEITH loves first grade. She won first place in lead line and second place in

walk-trot for the 2017 Merrylegs horse show series and is also busy with swimming.

Intermediate Girls

HOPIS ISABEL PIPICH’S 2nd grade class at The Agnes Irwin School took on the monumental task of

creating their own Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for the entire school. They worked with all

their teachers across all the subjects to create (completely on their own!!!) their very own

parade balloons. They paraded in the upper school to the cheers of all the girls. It was a sight

to see! SOPHIA DEVITO, along with her parents, brother and Grandpa, had their very first

airplane ride to Florida to spend time with family for vacation. While there, her parents

surprised them by taking them to Disney World to meet Mickey and to Sea World to see the

orcas.

INCAS

KATHRYN KUDRICK sadly lost her father unexpectedly in October 2017. She has been

studying hard in 3rd grade, and enjoys baking and participating in Girl Scouts and gymnastics.

She is about to start training for her first 5K with the Girls on the Run program. One of her

favorite pastimes is playing with her dog, Rudy!

MAYANS LIZA ALLEN has the best 3rd grade teacher ever……Aunt Kristen!

EMERALDS AVA BELL went on a surprise vacation to Mexico and the highlight of the trip was swimming

with dolphins finding lizards.

PEARLS EMILY RUBIN is doing very well at Paxon Hollow Middle School. She made the Honor Roll in the

first quarter of the school year and participated in Marple Newtown Soccer this fall. She is

currently playing Basketball in the MNBA league and her team is 3-0. Emily is looking forward to

our upcoming family vacation to Saint Kitts in March and of course returning to Arrowhead for

her 6th summer.

BOYS

Junior Boys

CUBS REID MONTEITH has been working on swimming independently and is really enjoying his last

year of preschool. AIDAN WITT had a great camp season and can’t wait to come back! He went

to Florida to see his great-grandfather and his Uncle. He loved swimming in the pool and going to

the beach. Aidan has also loved pre-k and learning his letters, numbers and shapes. He started

basketball this winter with his buddy Jacob and can’t wait to be in the Wolves next year!

WOLVES MILO BELL went on a surprise vacation to Mexico and the highlight of the trip was swimming

with dolphins finding lizards. FINN PIPICH (a Haverford School Kindergarten man) pulled out

his own tooth at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza on Christmas Eve when his mom mentioned that the

Tooth Fairy likes brave people!

Intermediate Boys

BRAVES GAVIN BELL went on a surprise vacation to Mexico and the highlight of the trip was swimming

with dolphins finding lizards. SALVATORE DEVITO, along with his parents, sister and Grandpa,

had their very first airplane ride to Florida to spend time with family for vacation. While there,

his parents surprised them by taking them to Disney World to meet Mickey and to Sea World to

see the orcas.

APACHES

OWEN SAKEL had a blast vacationing in Punta Cana the week after camp ended. He’s enjoying

4th grade and playing on a basketball team. Owen celebrated turning 10 with a quick trip to

Disney where he proudly wore his “It’s my Birthday” pin and was treated like a V.I.P.! He’s

excited to move on up to senior camp this summer!

Senior Boys

EAGLES DANIEL KATZ is enjoying 5th grade and playing basketball.

FLYERS JAKE KUDRICK led Duffy String Band to a 9th place finish, their highest placing since 1962 on

January 1st at the annual Mummers Parade. Jake also made history as the youngest Captain in

Mummers history when he succeeded his father, Ted Kudrick, who passed away unexpectedly in

October 2017. Of 16 Captains, the other 15 of whom were adults and seasoned performers,

Jake tied for 4th place! When not rehearsing his dance moves, Jake plays CYO basketball and is

preparing to test for his first dan Black Belt, in Tang Soo Do.
