Information on mowingPrior to mowing, check the device for com-pleteness, proper function, and cleanliness. Adirty ventilation grid causes overheating of theengine which can result in engine damage.

For your grass to grow beautiful and thick, mow frequently and keep the grass short. Donot mow your lawn too low in dry and hot con-ditions because the lawn is susceptible to sunand heat damage and will look unsightly!

Only mow with a sharp and undamaged bladeso that the blades of grass do not fray. Havethe blade sharpened and balanced regularly(authorised service centre).

Do not mow when the grass is wet or when it israining. The turf may be damaged and there isa danger of slipping!

Turn the device around only in already mownsections. Do not leave the device unattendedwhile the engine is running.

To evenly distribute grass remains and toachieve an even cutting height, we recom-mend, for flat terrain, to proceed according tothe illustrated mowing pattern.

A mulching mower shreds the clippings betterand finer than a conventional mowers. For anoptimal cutting pattern, please heed the follow-ing recommendations.

Recommendations for mowing withmulching mowers:– Mow only 1/3 of the grass height.

– Do not set the brush height to the lowest po-sition. Recommendation: 50-60 mm.

– Work under dry conditions.

– Start with slow speed.

– The slower you drive the better the cuttingresult.

– If the grass is too high, you should mow inmaximum cutting height first and later mowagain in the recommended cutting height.

– If clumps form or the mulching layer is toothick, the air exchange of the soil can be re-stricted. Areas of rot can result.

high grass.2. Insert the safety key.3. Lift the engine brake bracket completely.4. Press the latch knob.5. Actuate and hold the engine brake handle.

Automatic load detectionThe engine is equipped with automatic loaddetection.

– To save energy, the engine runs at idlespeed at low load.

– If a higher load is detected, the engine auto-matically increases the speed to the max-imum speed.

Automatic switch-offThe engine is equipped with an automaticswitch-off to prevent overload. The automaticswitch-off is indicated by short, repeating sig-nal tones.

– 2 signal tones:The battery voltage has dropped below 57 VCharge the battery or replace the battery.

– 3 signal tones:The current consumption was too high for ashort time. Wait for 5 seconds and restartthe device.

– 5 signal tones:Engine or battery is overheated. Clean theventilation grid. Wait for 10 seconds and re-start the device.

Cleaning the device

Fig. 8:

Depending on use, clean the device thor-oughly, especially the bottom and the blade.

Grass cuttings and dirt that are stuck interferewith the grass ejection and impair the cuttingquality. To sufficiently cool the engine, keepthe engine cover, ventilation grid and engineclean.

For cleaning, use a hand brush. Remove stub-born dirt with a wooden or plastic spatula.Clean the outside housing parts with a cloth.

Do not clean the device, the battery and thecharger with water spray or high-pressurecleaner! Do not use any aggressive cleaningagents.

General inspectionTo make sure that the device can be operatedsafely, check all nuts, bolts, screws etc. regu-larly for proper condition and firm seating.Check all electrical cables for damage.

Immediately replace damaged or worn parts, especially covers, engine enclosure, batterycover, safety key and charger (authorised ser-vice centre).

Check all parts that contain fluids for leaks andproper condition. These can be: Gearboxes, battery.

In case of leaks contact an authorised servicecentre.

Maintaining the engineThe engine manufacturer has prepared the op-erating manual of the engine. The manual con-tains all maintenance requirements and war-ranty conditions for the engine. If warrantywork at the engine is required, contact your au-thorised service centre or the next authoriseddealer for engines.

To ensure a long service life of the engine, suf-ficient engine cooling is required.

Always keep- the engine cover (ventilation grid)clean.

Checking the safety keyCheck the safety key for proper function. Itmust not be possible to start the engine withthe battery inserted when the safety key is re-moved.

Checking the battery and thecharger

Warning

A damaged or defective battery may smokeor catch on fire and cause life-threateninginjuries or major damage to property.► Do not use a damaged or defective bat-

tery.► Dispose of a damaged or defective bat-

tery immediately in accordance with localregulations.

► Follow the instructions in the chapters"Safe handling of the battery" and "Safehandling of the charger".

Warning

Danger of electric shock when the chargeris plugged in.► Unplug the power cord from the power

outlet before cleaning or checking thecharger.

Check the battery and the charger for visibledamage. Immediately replace a damaged bat-tery or a damaged charger.

Check the battery status (see chapter Char-ging the battery).

Please observe the operating instructions forthe battery and the charger.

Checking the battery compartmenton the deviceCheck if the battery is correctly engaged in thebattery compartment. Check if the release but-ton in the battery compartment releases thebattery correctly. Contact an authorised servicecentre if this is not the case.

Please observe the operating instructions forthe battery and the charger.

Checking the drive (devices withdrive)1. Put the device on a non-slip surface (e.g.

concrete or asphalt).2. Switch off the engine.3. Actuate the drive.4. Try to pull the device backwards. If the rear wheels lock, the drive is correctly ad-justed. If you can pull the device, the drivemust be re-adjusted.

1

3

2

4

Readjusting the driveThe drive can be readjusted in two places.

1. Turn the nut (1) in the direction of the drivelever.

2. Lock the counternut (2) against the nut (1).Or:

1. Turn the sleeve (3) on the drive away fromthe nut (4).

2. Tighten the nut (4) by turning it towards thesleeve.

25

Adjust the drive so that

– the wheels are blocked when the drive is ac-tuated when the drive is pulled,

– the wheels turn freely when the drive is actu-ated.

If there is no improvement after the adjust-ment, have the device checked by an author-ised service centre.

Notice

If the drive is not correctly adjusted, thegearbox can overheat and be damaged.

Checking the blade

Warning

Wear or damage on the blades and thefastening elements can result in the bladesor the fastening elements coming off.► Check the blades and all fastening ele-

ments according to the following instruc-tions.

Warning

There is a considerable risk of injury due toimproperly mounted and maintained blades.► Work at blades must be carried out by an

authorised service centre.

Use solid gloves when you checkthe blade.

Work on the blade requires specific expertisebecause an imbalance inspection is necessaryand torques must be observed.

Blades that are sharpened improperly increasethe workload of the device and can result in vi-bration cracks or breaks.

Check the blade and all fastening elements forwear, damage and cracks

– each time before and after you mow.

– in case of noticeable changes or unusual vi-brations.

Contact an authorised service centre if you de-tect faults or damage during inspection.

All shown blade parts and their fastening ele-ments must be changed

– if damage or cracks are detected.

– if unusually strong vibrations occur.

– at least once a year or every 50 operatinghours, no matter if wear does exist or not.

The material weakens, can suffer cracks, en-dangering people and material assets. Ejectedbroken pieces can cause severe injuries.

Unusual vibrations are an indication that

– blades are missing or broken,

– the blade is worn excessively or on one sideor

– damage to the engine or cutter deck fasten-ing.

– When the thickness of the blade at the rearedge of the vane (2) or at another point isbelow 1 mm (exception: cutting edge).

Original bladeAn original AS-blade is engraved with:

AS XXXXXXXX

The engraving shows the spare part number.

Checking engine brakeCheck the function of the engine brake byswitching off the engine. The blade must cometo a standstill from full speed within less than3 seconds. Contact an authorised servicecentre if this is not the case.
