Flying buttresses: structures built against or projecting from walls to support the wall. In Gothic Art, they pushed walls outward to create a layer effect.

Gothic style: type of architecture that evolved from Roman architecture. Started in France, had pointed arches, ribbed vaults and flying buttresses. Influenced churches as well as castles and universities. Dealt in emotion.
