IN THE GANNAWARRA!

Arts& Culture

2020

Welcome to the 2020 edition of the Arts and Culture in the Gannawarra brochure.

This brochure is here for you to use as a guide, as it showcases performances and exhibitions across the Gannawarra.

Gannawarra Shire Council is proud to be hosting performances this year that will cater for all ages and interests. Families can take part in the interactive program I See You Like This, a multi-generational artistic experience where parents and children can work together on a creative digital portrait. You could also attend the hysterical new show by The Listies called, Rolling on the Floor Laughing So Hard, for ages 4+, being held at the Cohuna Memorial Hall in July.

Council is again proud to be partnering with the Kerang Music Society to bring Rhythm and Voice to local students. It will be a day of music and fun for school students Grades 3-7 and you can join in too!

There are many other performances organised by Gannawarra community groups to look forward to in 2020. Whether it is the iconic Quambatook Silo Cinema, the Big Cohuna Festival, community events or art exhibitions, you’ll find there is something on offer for everyone, so be sure to book event dates into your calendar.

You can keep up to date with details online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/events.

I hope you enjoy all that the Gannawarra has to offer.

Cr Lorraine LearmonthMayor, Gannawarra Shire Council.

Running with Emus is a new play by award-winning Cohuna playwright Merrilee Moss about refugees, identity and belonging. Seventy-six-year-old Pat has dropped out of life. She is living on her verandah, watching birds, when her granddaughter arrives to stir up the town. Throw into the mix an Italian ghost from the past, an old-fashioned Mayor and a chorus of laconic locals and you have a tragi-comic story about what it is to be Australian in a multicultural world.

This World Premiere will include two performances atTree Tops Scout Camp. This will be followed by a two-week season in March at La Mama Theatre in Melbourne. The play has also been selected for the 2020 VCE Playlist.

Time: 10am - 2pmDate: Friday 1 May 2020Venue: Kerang Memorial Hall 2 Nolan Street, KerangSuitable for: Grades 3-7 students and everyone is welcome to the concert.Price: Free

The day is directed by the outstandingly talented Jenni Heinrich and Peter Butler, who started a similar program in Bendigo many years ago. A massed choir song leads theday then students break off and participate in diversemusical workshops.

Rhythm and Voice is a day that inspires not just the joy of music, but its myriad of benefits. Come to the concert and you too can be inspired.

An honest and hilarious discussion of mental health with a theatrical twist.

Ever wondered if you’re doing it right? Well did you read the label? Life didn’t come with a label, but you will be told your whole life how you should behave or who you should be.

Jude reminds us when to be aware of these labels, and when the labels are totally useless - and most importantly, that we are not alone. She’ll talk about some tough stuff, make you laugh and make you feel truly human.
